Solo in Healdsburg

Hi All,
DC Hound who will be in Healdsburg for a day on business. I've been to wine country before and had many great meals, but always with my SO. This time I'll have one dinner in town but will be alone-- any suggestions for a place with good food where I won't feel out of place eating by myself?
Thanks!

oh, no- the parents are meeting!

How about Vermilion in Alexandria? They have a bit of Southern edge to their cooking (as well as the requisite locally-sourced ingredients) that will likely be something different for the SF crew, and the noise level has been reasonable the nights that I've been there. They seem to have at least one large table upstairs. I've eaten there a few times recently and have been quite pleased with the food.

Good Family Friendly Place close to the National Zoo

Based on previous CH suggestions, I took the kids to Dino for a late lunch after the zoo recently. It worked well-- the kids were very happy with the kid's menu selections and the staff were all quite accommodating. The noise level was high enough that no one could hear the kids. Never tried dinner, so I don't know whether that would be less comfortable...

Best Croque Monsieur?

Hi Everyone,
I just moved down to NOVA from the Boston area, and find that I'm missing some of the casual bistros we used to have. Can anyone direct me to a restaurant that does a nice Croque Monsieur?
Thanks!

Brioche in MetroWest?

Thanks for the suggestions-- I'll try the suggestions in Wellesley and Chestnut Hill this weekend.

Brioche in MetroWest?

I stopped by there a few days ago, and they've stopped selling bread :)

Brioche in MetroWest?

Ever since B&R closed, I've been without a regular source of brioche, and lately my daughter has gone on a breakfast hunger strike. Any recommendations for decent brioche in MetroWest (I can't make it in to the bakeries in Boston or Cambridge that I know have it on a regular enough cadence).

Reservations Necessary for Weekday Lunch at Jaleo or Rasika?

My wife and I tried walking in to Rasika for lunch roughly a month ago at about 1:30pm and they had no room at all. We then wandered over to Jaleo and were seated immediately.

Brasserie T with kids?

Just an update for anyone who looks at this thread later. Brasserie T worked well with the kids-- having the fountains and terrace worked wonderfully, as the kids could go stretch their legs as necessary without disturbing anyone. We enjoyed the food as well.
Thanks again for the comments.

Brasserie T with kids?

Thanks for the recommendation! I'd also appreciate any other kid-friendly restaurant pointers, especially near vieux montreal. Based on previous threads, we're planning to stop in at Holder, but I have a few meals still unaccounted for...

Brasserie T with kids?

Hi Everyone,
I'll be visiting Montreal with my kids (agest 5 and 2) and am hoping to manage a few good meals despite the need for child-friendly restaurants. My wife and I have been visiting annually without the kids for many years, and always incorporate a dinner at Toque. Since we won't be able to do that on this trip, I was wondering if Brasserie T might give me my Toque fix in a setting more accomodating of the children. I know that in one of the articles I read, they suggested that they wanted to create a place that welcomes "everyone" - can those of you who have been there tell me whether it would be appropriate to bring small (well behaved for their ages) children?
Thanks in advance!

Kids and Faneuil Hall area

My kids have enjoyed Kingfish - on a nice day you can eat outside and watch the throngs of humanity, and it is loud enough inside that my 2 year old can't be heard above the din...

Wedding luncheon in Framingham area??? PLEASE HELP!!

Legals has a side room that can be shut off - I think it is large enough for your needs. Looks like they have some options at the $25pp point.

Good Take out Pizza Framingham/Natick

I second North End Treats, with the added bonus of being able to pick up some Tiramisu for dessert. I'd put Giannis in at second.

Alta Strada: Why universally disliked?

I was also a figs regular, and actually prefer alta strada. What I've found is that I always enjoy the pasta and the apps, but have had mixed results with regard to entrees and sandwiches. Still, living in Metro West, I haven't found anything I like better for a comfortable "upscale" lunch nearby. I do second BostonMAC's comment about the wine-- I always wish that they had some decent less-expensive options; their mark-up is above the threshold I consider reasonable.

Where should I go next?

Thanks everyone! I hadn't identified Proof as a possibility, but the menu sounds great, and we're most certainly wine drinkers. I appreciate the advice!

Where should I go next?

Hi Hounds,
I need some advice. I'll be visiting for a weekend and have the chance for one dinner out without th kids. On previous trips, I've had several good experiences at CityZen, had some great food at the Eve Tasting Room and Komi, and have had decent meals at Jaleo and Colvin Run. This time I'm hoping to find something that is a little more laid-back than the first three, but still delivers on the food (more than the last two). I don't get out as much as I used to, so every meal counts!
I've scanned through postings on the board and the Post Dining Guide, but I'm having trouble narrowing down to the right place. Obelisk, Paleo, and Corduroy all sound good, among others, and I just can't decide.
So where should I go next?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Boston restaurant for a 2 year old and 6 year old.

Since you're not getting any suggestions, I'll jump in and suggest you take them to Legals. Not a Chowhound favorite, but one of the easiest restaurants I've found to take my kids (ages 5 and 2) and right in the heart of Copley. They have a decent kids menu (ranging from the expected seafood options to fish-shaped ravioli), the noise level is usually loud enough that a grumpy toddler doesn't cause a scene, and since the Copely location is in a mall, you can always carry them out if they need to run around or make a fuss during dinner.

Which Boston institution have I been neglecting for too long: Hammersley's, Rialto, or Mistral?

definitely Hamersley's. They've been consistently solid over the ~15 years that I've been going there, and are always one of my first choices when I want comfort food. I used to be a big fan of Rialto, but have been quite disappointed with my last two trips (the most recent of which was two months ago). I've never much liked Mistral, so I'd put it last on my list...

Rendezvous - all starters meal?

Wow-- I had never even thought to ask. I would love to be able to make the pudding at home when the craving strikes and I can't get a babysitter. Definitely one of the most satisfying desserts around.

Quebec City: LR or Toast! Help me decide...

Just a report back-- we had dinner at Toast! and the food was fabulous! Definitely the best meal that I have had in years. As I had read on other threads, the pacing was inconsistent, but since I was prepared for that, it didn't diminish from my enjoyment of the meal.
We also hit Panache for breakfast on Sunday which was good, but I think we were still jaded from dinner the night before.
Thanks to everyone who pointed me towards Toast! I can't wait until I have a chance to go back.

Quebec City: LR or Toast! Help me decide...

Hi Hounds,
My wife and I are coming up to Quebec City this weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We haven't been in many years - we usually celebrate every year at Toque in Montreal, but are looking for a change.
We'll have one chance at a nice dinner - I've been reading the threads and really like the sound of Toast! But I've been hearing good things about Laurie Raphael for many many years, and wonder if I should make the trip over there to try out the classic.
What do you think -- Toast or LR for the anniversary meal?

Also - any suggestions for a nice breakfast/brunch on sunday morning? Something not too long since we'll be heading out around noon or 12:30pm.

thanks!

Wellesley dining

I'm very partial to Alta Strada. We go there quite a bit, and I think the pastas and prociutto are better than any I've found in the area. The service is consistently excellent as well.

Is Craigie brunch kid friendly?

I'm just talking about atmosphere. My kids are pretty discerning about quality for their age, but eat a very wide range of cuisines. I've looked at the on-line menu, and both kids would happily gobble it up....

Is Craigie brunch kid friendly?

Hi Hounds,
Since having kids, my search for new great restaurant choices has become a search for kid-friendly restaurants with good food that also happen to servce brunch or lunch. I noticed that Cragie has started doing brunch on Sundays- I'd love the opportunity to eat Tony Maws' food more often, but I'm wondering whether the brunch is kid-friendly at all (I have a toddler and a pre-schooler). I've been to the old Craigie street location for dinner many times, and wouldn't dream of taking my kids there for dinner (they are very well behaved children, but they are children). Can anyone who's been to brunch give me some feedback on the atmosphere?
thanks

Food Finds in the Natick/Framingham Area

Don't miss the pizza at North End Treats, either. It has supplanted Gianni's as my favorite framingham-based pizza.

Frozen Sour Cherries?

I've gone through this search also, with no luck. The best I've been able to do out of season is the bottled Morello's at Trader Joe's. It's not too long though until we'll have fresh ones available for picking at the local farms.

Red Hamburger Relish -- Which is best?

I also liked the Grandmother's relish that Mr. Bartley used to push, and have been buying it from my local Stop and Shop for quite some time. Recently they stopped carrying it, much to my dismay. This past weekend, my wife found some bottles heavily marked down at the Christmas Tree Shop in Natick - so they are still available if you want to stock up.

Udupi Bhawan vs. Chennai Woodlands

I have always preferred Udupi - I have found the food to be better, and prefer the level of service. That said, they are far enough apart geographically that you might as well just go to the one that is closest... (And yes, they are very similar in their offerings)

Restaurants Serving Copper River Salmon?

Has anyone seen Copper River Salmon on a menu recently? I called around extensively during the season last year, but was only able to find it at McCormick and Schmick's, where the preparation was not to my liking. I'm hoping to find it somewhere else this year...
