Worms in my White Truffle!

Hello fellow Hounds...

Yesterday I received my first ever fresh white truffle and was over the moon despite being hit hard in the pocket! I had been planning for this delivery for a while and quickly went about preparing my favorite meal for both me and my wife. Fresh egg pasta, loads of butter, parmigiana cheese, salt and pepper were all plated and waiting for the ceremonial shaving of the glorious white fungus :) Video camera was rolling as I proceeded to shave the truffle over the perfect pasta dish. After finishing the first plate I wanted to get a look at the inside of the truffle and give it a good sniff. To my horror, I found lots of tiny white worms squirming around inside my truffle. Needless to say, my wife refused to eat the pasta and our long awaited truffle week has been postponed.

Is this normal? Should I return the truffle? Should I throw it away? I have done some research and can't really find an answer....

Has this happened to anyone out there? Do you have any suggestions?

Christmas Lunch in London

Thanks for all the help. We are staying in the W2 area and managed to find a table at the Boxwood cafe (Knightsbridge)...Will be a bit of a walk but after all that food we'll probably need it!

Christmas Lunch in London

Hi,
My wife and I will be in London for Christmas and are looking for some recommendations for places to have a nice, traditional Christmas lunch. No family around, so we're going the restaurant route! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :)

Best Boston Burger

I was over in Dedham the other day and gave Five Guys a try. I have to say it is one of the better burgers I have tried in the Boston area. Keep in mind it's not one of your gourmet burgers, however, for me it's a burger that takes care of your need for a "burger fix" and some....

looking for uni (sea urchin)

I second catalina seafood. Ordered two types of Uni and it came frozen. Left it in the fridge for a day and then ate it all sashimi style! Excellent uni :)

Toraya is a Gem

I was actually talking about Toraya. My bad. With the makis I can understand falling apart because of freshness, but in Toraya this was not the case. More of a "not so well rolled" thing.

Toraya is a Gem

I guess it was just a one off. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the presentation of the sushi chef either. He was wearing an apron that looked like it hadn't been washed for a while and I could see into the kitchen that didn't look too clean. All this didn't help with my dining experience. Both me and my DC also noticed that the maki rolls were made very hastily and seemed to fall apart as soon as you picked them up. I would understand this if it was during peak times, however, it was only us and two other diners in the restaurant.

Toraya is a Gem

Hi all. This is only me second post as I'm new to the board. I ventured out to Toraya today (I study at Tufts in Medford and thought it might be worth the 15 min drive). I have to say I was very disappointed with the sushi at this place. I ordered salmon and yellowtail nigiri and a few maki's. All in all, the quality of the sushi was OK at best. Cannot be compared to the quality of the fish at the more expensive establishments (Oishii/OGA etc). The prices were much cheaper than the more expensive places, but I think it is definitely a level below them and therefore the price is probably right in comparison. Just wanted to put my two cents in. Perhaps they were having a slow/off day. Has anyone else felt this way about the sushi there? Cheers :)

Restaurant Recommendation in Napa

Hi all,

I'm new to the board and I'll be visiting Napa at the beginning of July with my wife and a couple of friends. Can anyone help with restaurant suggestions? It's our first time in Napa and we've heard they have a lot of very nice restaurants. Thanks. :)
