Vegas seafood buffet- is it worth the over eating?

My mother loves buffets, in particular, Las Vegas buffets. so when I heard that a "vegas style" buffet opened up in Hollywood, I told her that I would take her. Can anyone tell me if it is worth going? can you also suggest some of their better items to eat, and not eat to cut down on the over eating that occurs at most buffets.

HALAL CHICKEN RICE IN LOS ANGELES?

that's pretty hard core to have people bring it back for you. must stink up in the plane... kudos to you for having it. i guess this would be a good suggestion for someone out there to open up one of those in l.a. but don't go there unless you can do it right!

HALAL CHICKEN RICE IN LOS ANGELES?

Hi All,

Does Halal chicken rice that you find all over NYC and in particular the corners of 53rd & 6th exist in Los Angeles? The texture and flavor combinations are so great. NYC can't be the only place that would sell this?

Best Chocolate layered cake in L.A. county 2012

Junior's deli on westwood. there is a regular chocolate cake, then there is the chocolate pudding "blackout" cake with chocolate cake crumbs on the outside. this cake is both super moist and soft but rich from the pudding type frosting that surrounds each layer. i've had the chocolate cake from Jamaica's and it is ok. a little too dense i for my liking. There is something about that texture of the cake that is like no other bakeries around town. You an buy it by the slice to try before ordering the whole cake. i've bought this cake for some many people, and everyone always is surprised that it comes from Juniors, and how delicious it is.
try it out. plus the do "now offers" from Groupon many days, and so for $10 you get $20 certificate. a great deal in my eyes.

best paella restaurant in Los Angeles, preferably on the westside

Hi all,

I am looking for the best paella restaurant in L.A. I've been to La Paella many times and love it. But I would have to agree with many chowhounders that it is a little pricey. Can anyone direct me to an alternative?

Thanks

go to KFC they have them, that is the only thing i eat from there. I use to have to leave the country to get these deep fried apple pie, (they still had them until a couple years ago.)
go run to KFC. the only one that i know that does not carry them anymore is the one on pico in santa monica near SMC. but otherwise, i've had luck with the other KFC.

Questions about Duck House on Christmas Day

Funny I just saw your posting of the duck house for xmas dinner. We also had a table for 4 + baby that i reserved 10 days before xmas. then some friends wanted to join and we called the xmas morning to see if we could add 3 more people to our table and they said NO! So we assumed that it was going to be super busy. Our reservation was for 5:30. we get there, restaurant is 3/4 empty. We were there until 7pm and then it was just starting to fill up, but a corner of the restaurant was completely empty the whole time we were there. the duck did not seem as tasty as the last time i was there. i think quality is always compromised when dining in a restaurant on xmas. the skin had a nice shiny lacquer, but maybe they had too many inexperienced carvers or just doing too many ducks, there was a lot of fat that was underneath the skin making the skin just very chewy and not crispy like we all dream about. the meat was bland, but the hoisen sauce helps a lot. the stir fried sprouts with a very little bit of meat was a good veg dish, cause most of the meat was on the main dish. we did not get the soup. we had it last time and we didn't care for it. instead they packed up the carcass for us and mom took it home to make duck congee. i'm sure she's enjoying it tonight.
we had several other dishes that they recommended, most of them rather salty. I think really the best thing was the very friendly service.
It's hard for me to say if i would recommend people going there for duck. maybe i would try it out one more time on a non holiday to give it a better rating.

Seeking for the WOW experience in LA

i have not been to urasawa, and am waiting for someone with a very large pocketbook to take me as it is considered to be the most expensive restaurant in los angeles. that is saying alot. i'm sure it's a great sushi experience but the wow experience might just be from the bill!
the ivy... food isn't so good. you just go there to star gaze during the day - go during the weekday. weekend is full of tourists trying to star gaze.
of all the ethic places in los angeles, the bazaar is not the first place to go for spanish food. there is a traditional spanish resturant about 1/4 mile away. La Paella. great tapas, great paella, the best flan in town, and authentic spanish waiters from spain.
otherwise check out the asian restaurants in the san gabriel valley as that area has the "best chinese food in america" according to gourmet mag.

where can i get a good bánh mì on the westside?

I don't know the name of the place. it's on the north side of broadway between ord and alpine. just west of the ding tai fun store.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&...
here is the google maps link. it's the one that says ___ HOA (can't see behind the bus
)i stopped just in a hurry to grab something to eat quick. it's one of the many chinese bbq shops around and they had a bunch of paper signs for banh mi. i decided on a non traditional sandwich, it was with the chinese bbq pork. omg!!! it was so good. i couldn't believe it. it was not the prettiest sandwich, but the combination of flavors was incredible. the great pork taste, with the pickeled carrot and radish slaw on top. the crispiness of the bbq pork skin with the soft interior of the french bread. and a very lightly crisp exterior from them toasting the bun which they insisted. i had to pick out some of the jalpanos because these ones were super hot. but was a good combo if i could take more heat. don't let the appearance deter you to go.

Visiting LA (Follow-up)

langers is a great place. it is proably the best pastrami you can get in los angeles. i've noticed the earlier you go, the better the rye - more fresh obviously. the cruchy outter crust with the soft rye center and the saltiness of the pastrami is a perfect balance.

as for the farmers market at the grove, well it's just a shopping mall - if you really want to see the fresh california produce, i would hit one of the farmers markets in town. always at least one a week. the best one is the wed. market in santa monica, it's the largest in california, and rivels some of the best markets in paris. the 2nd best is think is the one at hollywood & ivar on sunday.
