40th birthday party venue with a DJ

Hi!
I need recommendations for a venue on the Westside for a 40th birthday party venue. It will be about 100 people with a DJ and dancing and we are on a budget, maybe $1,000 total. I'm hoping to serve some decent food, even just appetizers and cake, from either the venue or I could bring my own.
Thanks!

Molten Chocolate Cake, Jean Georges and other versions?

I love Paula Deen's recipe from food network because it's sooo easy and can be made the day before and cooked off for 15 minutes while everyone's food is digesting. The question I would like to post is:

Has anyone ever tried to make a large molten lava cake using this recipe or a similar one?

It's one of my favs and would love to be able to take it to family gatherings. Let's face it there's no wow factor showing up with a bunch of ramekins.

Pho and banh mi in Little Saigon

I need recommendations on great Pho and Banh mi in Little Saigon OC...or send me link to a previous thread. Any price range is fine and we would like to go somewhere that's not a complete hole in the wall. Actually, the nicer the better.

Italian on the Westside

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. We went to Il Moro and the salads and pastas were pretty good, but the desserts we quite lacking. The service was great, the atmosphere very nice especially the patio, but I probably wouldn't go back.
I went went with a friend to Via Veneto per someone's recommendation and would definately say it's better food in general.

Italian on the Westside

Thanks everyone. We do love Il Grano and La Botte, but thought we might try something new. Have heard great things about Via Veneto and mixed things about Vincenti. Definately ones to think about...

Italian on the Westside

It's not unreasonable for my husband to not want to drive from West LA to Highland and Melrose on a Tuesday evening. That could be a 45 minute drive with traffic. Not exactly the beginnng of a relaxing birthday dinner.

Italian on the Westside

We've been to Mozza and I love it, but my husband doesn't like going past the 405 and it is his birthday, after all. :)
We have been to Il Grano twice and love it also.

Italian on the Westside

I'm taking my husband out for Italian on his birthday. We are considering Il Moro in West LA or Drago in Santa Monica. We definately want to stay on the westside and I would like to have homemade pasta. Any thoughts?

Inexpensive in Mid-City/Miracle Mile

Hi all,

Looking for inexpensive places to eat dinner within a 3 mile radius of La Brea and Wilshire, preferably somewhere that serves inexpensive alcohol as well. Any type of cuisine is fine.

Thanks!

Cafe 50's Diner - Worst Diner in L.A.; What is the best L.A. Diner?

Haven't been to Nickle Diner downtown but hear it's unreal. Also, not the best diner food but certainly enjoyable, is Delores' in West LA. I wouldn't make a special trip for it, but if you find yourself on that side of town and want something inexpensive it's worth a try.

Dinner! By the way, no one's mentioned Paquito Mas. Is it any good and what is their price point? Their website doesn't have prices. Thanks.

Downey or Bouchon in Santa Barbara

Thanks for all the input. We ate at Tupelo Junction for both dinner and breakfast the next day. Breakfast was great-dinner was okay. Bouchon was great! The duck really was amazing. We skipped the Biltmore and just had breakfast at the hotel for convenience.

Inexpensive in Westwood

I'm looking for inexpensive (around $10) places near the intersection of Olympic and Westwood. Preferrably within a 4-5 block radius so we can walk. Any type of cuisine will work, especially ethnic, but all suggestions are welcome.

By the way, what else is good at Super Rica?

Downey or Bouchon in Santa Barbara

I am a fan of the the Baby Fat and I've tried many of the burgers in LA. There is something about that layer of extra pickles and sauce on the animal style cheese burger at INO that is still my favorite.

Best westside pizza?

Thank you for reading my mind! I forgot to mention that I DO like NY style. Will definately try these. Hopefully they deliver to West LA. I also like gourmet-ish pizza if done right.

Downey or Bouchon in Santa Barbara

Thanks for all the information. We are thinking Bouchons sounds more our speed.
In and Out is actually my favorite hamburger in all of LA but I never get to go because they are inconvenient and BUSY, so I always try to hit one while on vacation (may stop in Ventura on the way up.) Super Rica is definately up for discussion, as I was underwhelmed when I went there once before.

Best westside pizza?

Any good recommendations for pizza delivery on the Westside, BESIDES Maria's Italian Kitchen? Perhaps there was a previous discussion on this that I missed...

Downey or Bouchon in Santa Barbara

Planning a long weekend with the husband in SB. I'm torn between Downey and Bouchon for a nice dinner on Saturday night. Any comments on either or even other recommendations?

We are also planning brunch at the Biltmore on Sunday--is it worth it?
For our less expensive meals: Tupelo Junction Cafe, La Super Rica, and maybe In-n-Out.

Downtown L.A. Lunch and Dinner

I am going to be spending some town downtown this weekend with out of town guests. We are looking for inexpensive to mid-range ($10-20/person) for lunch and a nice dinner ($20-35/entree or more if spectacular) before the theater. I love Cafe Pinot, but haven't eaten many other places. Any recommendations?

Low-Key and Tasty in West LA.

I don't think anyone mentioned Yakatoria on Olympic and Sawtelle. Yum! Le Saigon for Vietnamese on Santa Monica Blvd. and Javan for Persian.

I agree--Bandera in Brentwood. Soooo yummy!

There are so many mixed reviews about Roppongi! We love Asian tapas done right and the menu looks delicious. Is the food sub par or something?
Nine ten and Georges Modern seem to get unanimous praises.

We went to Pamplemousse last time we were there. The food and atmosphere was great.

Sorry, I guess I should have added that I'm from LA. We have Wahoo's and it's not my favorite. They don't have a yummy tartar sauce-like white sauce on their tacos. I find them to be bland.

weekend in La Jolla

Hi there,
My husband and I will spending next weekend in La Jolla for our one year anniversary.
Our dinner considerations are Roppongi and Nine Ten, based on menu, or possibly George's or Marine Room, based on view and atmosphere. I tend to choose based strictly on food so I'm leaning towards Roppongi and Nine Ten. Any thoughts?

Also, I want to have some really good breaded fish tacos and carne asada for lunches. Any recommendations there?

We definately want recommendations in La Jolla only---and any price range is fine for dinner.

Thanks.
