Need a rec for a lunch date in Westchase.

I have a date friday (tomorrow) with a vegetarian from Westchase. I'm from Pinellas so I don't know the area well.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Preferably somewhere that serves beer/alcohol. Thanks!

While I'm at it, does anyone know of anything else to do afterwards in that area??

Where to eat in Clearwater, FL?

Yes! They have lots of seafood and I forgot bout the excellent fish tacos.

Also, the grilled, jerk chicken wings are very good for an app.
I like to get the Mac and cheese and mix it with their homemade jerk hot sauce.

Where to eat before Blue Man Group?

My wife and I are going to see BMG this Friday night (07/09) and we're looking for somewhere good to eat thursday and friday night.

Nice, but nothing fancy, and neither of us are huge on seafood. I was looking at The Ravenous Pig, although she's not too adventurous, foodwise, so I've read they may not be the best choice. Do they also have standard fare?

I read one review that said "Don't eat here if you don't like what's on Iron Chef". So that scared her a bit, haha.

I was also looking at Texas de Brazil, is it worth the cost aside from the fact that it's tons of meat??

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Where to eat in Clearwater, FL?

As long as it's not too hot out, I LOVE Jolli Mon's in Dunedin. It's mostly outside, kind of jamaican/key west style bar food. EXCELLENT jerk pork sandwich.

I'm sure most CH'ers know more than I, so I'll let them elaborate on the rest.

HELP!!Seminole/Largo area new implants... from AZ! NEEEEEED Mexican food!!

I LOVE Senor Taco, as well as the cart on Starkey. They used to have a drive thru on US19 that was a former checkers building, but the overpass proiject kind of screwed them.

The owner is a WONDERFUL lady, and I am totally obsessed with their Mayan BBQ pork.

They also have a soup called Jumping Bean soup that is delicious.ƒ

*edit* I should add, Ive only been to the Park Blvd location once, and that was for takeout, I used to frequent the US19 location, but I now go to the cart on Starkey whenever possible for lunch. The owner herself told me that she thinks the food is better on the cart. She thinks it's the grill that does it, lol. *edit*

Keeping tortillas warm

i do like hard tacos, and I also like tamales, gorditas(both of which i know are not exactly corn "tortillas"), and enchiladas. To me it's texture more than taste. When used for a soft taco, they're a bit dry, and even gritty sometimes, in my opinion.

Keeping tortillas warm

Many thanks to everyone for all the ideas, but due to a number of things that added a bit too much to my plate, I decided to scaled back the party to just snacks and cupcakes.

I appreciate all the responses though, and hey, if nothing else, I learned something!!!

Vanilla Bean Cupcakes Idea...

I'm making the Vanilla Bean Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Frosting that were on this site for a birthday party.

I had an idea but I'm coming to you, CH'ers for a guess as to whether it'd work or not.

I want to frost them, and then sprinkle some vanilla sugar on top, and torch the sugar, like a brulee. Would it work? or would it just melt the frosting?

And if it would work, do you think it would be too many things going on???

Thanks again!!

Keeping tortillas warm

For my daughters 2nd birthday I'm having a sort of taco bar. For fillings I'm making beef barbacoa, a pork chili verde, and maybe some chicken.

My question is, what's the best way to keep a large number of tortillas warm, without them going hard?

BTW, I'm using flour tortillas.

I know, the purists are going to scold me, but I don't care for corn tortillas, and neither do most of the people coming.

Spanish Pulled Pork in Dutch Oven

I want to make this Cuban-ish pulled pork recipe, but would rather not use the crockpot, since I hate mine.

I have a cast iron dutch oven that I'd much rather use.

Will the cast iron be ok with the acidity of the citrus in the mojo for that long of a cooking time or will the vinegar counter the citrus?

Kojak's Ribs

so any ideas on a method/recipe? The dry rub must have a good deal of sugar if i remember correctly right? I haven't been in a while, but i recall them being slightly sweet.

Kojak's Ribs

So I wasn't sure what section to put this in, and I decided on the Florida section.

I have 2 racks of spare ribs, and an empty smoker. I've smoked lots of brisket, and some pork shoulder, but not much ribs.

I want to make some ribs similar to the ones at Kojak's. Not sauced, just good seasoned, smoky ribs. Anybody made anything close?

Archer Farms Spice Bottles.

To anyone who may find it useful, sunburstbottle.com has a number of solutions that I think will work for me, for about less than 50 cents a bottle!! thanks for all the suggestions.

Archer Farms Spice Bottles.

If anyone is familiar with the glass bottles that archer farms spices comes in, I'd like to know where I can buy them, unlabeled and empty.

Something similar would work, but my spice collection is a mess, and I've been buying spices at a local spice shop, so I need something refillable, and I want them to match!!.

I definitely want glass, don't want/need a shaker top. Frosted/dark glass would be great, but not a necessity.

I found some on amazon, but they're $2.73 before shipping, which seems absolutely insane to me, considering you can get one filled with spice for a few cents more.

I know something's out there, and I know a CH'er has found it!!

Pulled pork question

You say not to open it, what about this spray/baste I made from one of Raichlen's books? It's apple juice and some other things, is it not worth opening ithe smoker?

Pulled pork question

17 people, but I didn't figure 1 butt would be enough, and there's nothing wrong with leftovers, haha.

And as far as the time constraints, I'll be making thursday/friday, for saturday night, because we'll be at a hotel on the beach for the fourth, so regrettably, I have to cook it ahead of time.

Pulled pork question

I'm smoking 2 boston butts, about 8lbs. each, for the 4th of July. I'm injecting them with an apple cider, bourbon, seasoning mixture, rub, then smoking them in a gas smoker.

One of the square jobs, around 4 feet tall. Similar to this

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12...

My question is two part. #1, how long should I plan for? I plan to cook at about 225, until the meat is 195-200, but I've seen suggested cook times from 8-20 hours. I understand that the cook time is simply a guideline, but I'm just wanting to avoid having to pull the meat at 3 AM.

My second question, is being that one piece of meat will be closer to the heat, should I switch grates partway through the cooking?

Thanks, and sorry for my rambling!!

Converting crockpot recipe to dutch oven

I ended up just using the times as a guide, and just kind of went by feel, checked the meat every so often, when it was ready to shred, I took it out, and for anyone who hasn't tried it, that recipe turned out EXCELLENT!

Converting crockpot recipe to dutch oven

So I'm making

http://recipes.epicurean.com/recipe/1...

But I hate my crockpot, it makes everything taste, well, like it was cooked in a crockpot.

So what I'm wondering, for this recipe, and recipes in general, what time/heat ratio should i use to convert a crockpot recipe to CI dutch oven.

Largo/Seminole/Pinellas Park Suggestions?

IMO, Delco's in Dunedin is MUCH better than Colonial Corner.

Need some quick V-Day advice in Pinellas!!

Well, my dinner reservations were cancelled today by the restaurant, which will remain nameless.

So I need some new options. Things are a bit tight, so I'm not looking to spend a fortune, no Berns, or 50$ prix fix menu's. Trying to stay away from steakhouses as well, since the SO and I both agree that a steak at home is usually better than a restaurant.

My 2 frontrunners at this point are Vincenzo's in Clearwater, and Da Sesto in Pinellas Park. I've been to DS and LOVED it, never been to Vin's but I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Red Mesa was my first choice, until I learned they don't take reservations for parties smaller than 5, and I'm not going to try to get a table at RM on V-Day without a reservation.

So of Da Sesto and Vincenzo's what would you all recommend? any other recommendations?

I'm not stuck on Italian, she doesn't care for seafood, and isn't a very adventurous eater, basically nothing straying too far from beef, chicken, pork, pasta.

Sorry for my rambling and Thanks so much in advance!!!

Green Pan totally safe?

Yet, in all the argument about the pro's and con's of teflon, let's not forget that the question went unanswered for the most part.

I, unfortunately, do not know the answer.

*edit* - I just realized my post could come off as being a bit snarky. I assure you it wasn't intended like that.
