Hot dog options in Durham/Chapel Hill?
Wimpy's chili is peerless in its freshness and flavor. The underlying dog leaves a lot to be desired. If they'd offer an all-beef dog with a little snap to the casing, I'd die happy with chili-stains on my lips and shirt.
Historical note: If you trace the pattern of glue dots on the wall near the entrance, you'll see that the Wimpy's building once (originally?) housed a business called Hot Dog King.
Father's Day brunch in Durham/Chapel Hill
Ninth St. Bakery is long gone as an eatery (still baking from a downtown location), its spot on Ninth now occupied by Elmo's Diner, a loud and friendly joint with decent but not exceptional food. Lots of folks seem to like it, though.
Saladelia in the South Square area is another option for informal and tasty breakfast/brunch, and Rick's Diner in the adjoining shopping strip can be good when their sanitation numbers are up. (Check first ...)
