Takesushi in Sunnyside--a fortunate addition to the neighborhood

Any comparisons with TJ Asian Bristro, 10 blocks up, which is also in the immediate neighborhood and IMO the best sushi around here?

New in Sunnyside: Lenny's Pizza

There is a tiny pizza shop on 40th St. and the North side of Queens Blvd that I think is decent.

New in Sunnyside: Lenny's Pizza

Not totally sure I agree that Lenny's pizza is a cut above... I ordered two large pies from there last weekend and I wasn't particularly wowed, and my guests didn't say anything positive or negative about the pizza.

Sometimes though, I feel like ordering pies is not the best way to judge a pizza place. It's really about sliding up to the counter, laying down several dollars and having the slice piping hot out of the oven.

I'll give them another shot - but so far, they are mediocre, even by neighborhood standards.

Sik Gaek sunnyside has anyone been there?

You are right! I didn't go inside the new place and mistakenly thought they just updated their place.

I'll make a go of it one of these days. So many options in my hood now, so little time!

Sik Gaek sunnyside has anyone been there?

I went there once about five years ago, it was okay a bit pricey from what I remember (but I think anything that costs more than $15-$20pp in the nabe is pricey, not including drinks).

They replaced their awning with a new one recently and it looks much more attractive now. I think they also redid the exterior with new wood.

Best Indian in Jackson Heights?

Most of the restaurants serve North Indian / Punjabi cuisine and Vindaloo is not a very popular dish in those parts.

New Filipino restaurant, Payag, comes to Woodside (51-34 Roosevelt Ave)

They are finally open. It's a pretty large space. They were handing out menus out front.

Options seem somewhat limited
3 apps - $8-$9
3 salads - $7-$9
2 soups - $8-$10
6 main courses - $8-$14

I'll try to check them out this week. No liquor, beer or wine yet. Not sure about delivery.

New Filipino restaurant, Payag, comes to Woodside (51-34 Roosevelt Ave)

Just noticed today that the awning on a new restaurant has finally gone up revealing that this will be a Filipino restaurant named Payag "Filipino Cuisine by Rena Abendula"

There is another sign that indicates that this will be both a bar and restaurant. That should hopefully bring some nightlife into the area, hopefully the peaceful type.

The location will be at 51-34 Roosevelt Ave steps away from the 52nd St. stop on the 7 train.

Sorry but I do not know much more than this. It looks like it could be open in a matter of weeks provided they have their licenses in order.

Sonali Indian Cuisine, new in Sunnyside!

Thanks for the write up. I'm hoping this is a "soft" opening, but of course it is a low-mid scale Indian restaurant in Queens and they probably know of no such thing.

From the looks of it, their opening was WAY behind schedule -- probably permits and such. It really shouldn't take 4-7 months to set up a smallish Indian restaurant. I hope they have the cash reserves to make it through the first 6-12 months. It will take at least that long to get the clientele to get cash flow positive.

I'll give this a try in a few weeks and write back as well.

New to Sunnyside, Queens - Where to eat/shop?

I've gotta recommend Rainbow on 52nd st. for probably the best take-out/delivery Chinese in the hood: (718) 565-0888

Donato's on 51st and 39th Ave for great sit down Italian food.

Pio Pio Pollo on 46th and Greenpoint for great Pperuvian rotisserie chicken.

The taco truck on 52nd and Roosevelt Ave that arrives around 8PM daily for amazing Al Pastor tacos.

TJ Asian Bistro btwn 50th and 51st on Skillman for awesome Sushi dine-in especially.

A new Spanish restaurant in Sunnyside, seemingly

Yes I was confused too by their $6.50 lunch specials with everything underneath saying $10. I did drop in the other day with the intention of ordering, but after looking at the menu and realizing I only had $11 in my pocket, I decided otherwise and instead just grabbed two yummy tacos from the truck up the street.

I wish them the best, but their price point is a bit high IMO for the nabe.
A plate of chicken with rice and beans on the side will run close to $10 here; whereas two other great options in the nabe would be BBQ's or Pio Pio where you can get the same for <$5.

El Almacen-- very good but check your bill!

I'm guessing they itemized the bill for you... if so, what did they add to it made the bill come out to be $200 higher than it should have been?

Sonali Indian Cuisine, new in Sunnyside!

Located on 44-13 Queens Blvd (North side).
718-943-7880

It isn't open yet, but there is a new awning up. No other information regarding what style of Indian food they will be serving but I hope it is traditional dhaba style (i.e. inexpensive and yummy) North Indian.

Keep this thread open to post updates regarding the opening, menu and tasting reviews.
