Boiling Crab-ish in Westminster or Cerritos

We ended up at SEafood Shack (because we wanted to have dessert at Red Ribbon down the street-but that's another story) and was very disappointed.

Meowmixx, I totally share your sentiment about NOT REALLY liking Seafood Shack. We could not help but compare it to Boiling Crab and the only advantage this "shack" had over Boiling Crab was the surroundings were cleaner, ambience is better and the modern furniture plus plasma tv's. The spices of "The Don" does not even come close to Boiling Crab's "Shebang". We could not fully enjoy the shrimps and the dungeness crab because the spices and flavor were lacking in taste. It just wasn't there.....

We were disappointed but relieved that at least we got that out of the way; we were gonna try all the restaurants in that shopping center (Gerry's Grill is wonderful - try their grilled squid and garlic shrimp). We definitely dont plan on going back to Seafood Shack.

Meowmixx, we're planning to try Cajun Corner this weekend.

Thanks guys!

Mission 261

I should have researched Mission 261 here before heading out there. My friends from Pasadena recommended this place and based on the chinese people filtering in and out of the restaurant, I was eagerly (and probably expected too much) waiting to be served. SErvice is HORRIBLE. We ordered 5 different dumplings (not too impressed - I'll go to Sam Woo any day), roasted duck (they brought us bbq pork instead) and in the middle of our lunch, they delivered chicken buns in a take out box - which left us wondering how it got there. The manager even insisted taht we ordered it and for the life of us, we really did NOT. Maybe we had a LOst in Translation moment? The manager was very rude, you'd think a big place like that will have friendlier, bilingual employees.

Saladang Song (Pasadena) -- Avoid this place!

Saladang Song is the best thai restaurant in Pasadena. I had lunch there after flying in from Bangkok and I was happy to discover a new Pasadena haunt (I live in OC). Their lunch specials are wonderful, the portions are HUGE and the service is friendly (was there on a busy saturday-lunch) The pad thai lunch special was yummy, very generous with shrimps and their spicy beef with calamari and fried rice is something I'd go back for.

Clay Oven - Indian in Irvine

I had dinner there today and was disgusted with the food. Their "family style" dinner portions meant 4 tiny pieces of chicken drowning in soupy tikka masala with no semblance of spice. Their shrimp bhuna masala also had 4 pieces of tiny shrimps also drowning in a tomato sauce- like concoction. It was gross. They did not offer free naan (very different from most Indian restos like India Cook House, Haveli or Chakra).

Elmo, I'm interested to read your review of this restaurant if you've been. There's no way we're going back to Clay Oven. Small portions=overpriced. Not good at all.

Magic Wok (Filipino Food) Re-Opens After Fire - Report w/ PHOTOS

Elmo, with your review in hand, I drove to Artesia with another Filipina pal to try this restaurant. I do not normally eat Filipino food anywhere because my mom's cooking is unbeatable. But because I am almost an Elmomonster groupie, I had to try it.

We arrived at a good time on a Friday night (7-ish) and there wasn't any line yet. We ordered sisig, garlic rice, kare kare and fried tilapia. The garlic rice came first then kare-kare after 5 mins. We waited 5 more minutes before we gave them the "where the hell is our sisig and fish" look. The server would not acknowledge us and we noticed that food was flowing to other tables who came later than us. We had to go to the front counter to ask politely whatever happened to the rest of our order. Seems like they really forgot because really, how can sisig and fried tilapia take 35 minutes? When the sisig finally came we devoured it like it was running out of style. It was very crunchy and had a distinct lemon-y taste to it and we absolutely loved it. The fish tasted stale, the meat was yellow-ish and we concluded it was not fresh at all so we returned it and did not ask for a replacement. The only saving grace was the fantastic sisig. Service sucks big time and no, we do not plan to go back there again.

Hollywood hounds, I desperately need your help!

I'm taking my bf to see Wicked on his bday. We both live in OC and are clueless about the new good restos in Hollywood. As you all know, Wicked is at Pantages. They have a dinner and show package and you can choose from these restaurants: Eat on Sunset, Social Hollywood, The Grill on Hollywood and Twist Restaurant in the Rennaisance Hotel.

Any recommendations for the best of the four choices: food-wise and romantic ambience points?

IF there are better choices walking distance to Pantages, I'm all ears!

Boiling Crab - Vietnamese/Cajun Crawfish Boil in Garden Grove - A Review with Photos

I went to Boiling Crab for lunch yesterday (Euclid/Westminster). It was my first time and I was inspired to go because of elmo's review. My favorite is the sha-bang shrimps but found it TOO SPICY. We specified medium but our medium standard is probably different from theirs. The blue crab is out of season so we settled for the San Francisco crabs (with egg) it was yummy! Of course we said cajun style so with the spice of the crawfish and the shrimp, we found ourselves sweating. The only consolation was the salt and pepper combo that we drowned in lemon. We probably ordered 5 refills of unsweetened ice tea to cleanse our palate of heat. Next time we go we will definitely order just one cajun style crab and shrimps with just garlic and butter and skip on the crawfish.
