Any good restaurants on the water or sound?
Whatever you do, avoid the disappointment that is Ebb Tide. It sucks in every possible way. Way overpriced, long line to order, food is a disappointment. Yes, it is fun to sit on a picnic table, but do that in a park for much less, you will be happier.
Ebb Tide in Port Chester
We went last night. Lousy, and tremendously overpriced. $5 for a beer? $18 for truly average steamers, probably like a dozen, though when asked they said it would be 20-25. LAME.
$15 softshell crab sandwich had one small crab in it. The industrial $3.50 french fries were the best part of the whole thing.
Oh, and it took about 15 minutes to handle about 3 orders in front of us, one person taking orders when there is a line, well.. stupid. Also, one bathroom.
Please avoid this place, it is bad and insanely expensive.
What Happened To Blooms Kosher Deli?
If you are in White Plains, how about you get on the train and go to, hmmmm, you decide. It will die everywhere if people go to a place that is overpriced and unpleasant due only to location. of course, they are all overpriced for what they provide.
Dining near Boscobel
A couple of things to consider in Cold Spring.
Riverview actually has a river view and has had some good food in the past. There is also a lovely outdoor patio.
Catherine's always gets good reviews, but the service can be impossibly slow, so plan accordingly if you have a performance.
In Garrison, but a bit of a trek, is The Bird and Bottle Inn. Food has been good at times, but regardless, this is one of the oldest structures still standing the area, and, yes, Washington really did sleep there.
Otherwise, you really have to go further off, like Beacon. In Fishkill, about 8 miles north, there are a couple of restaurants, but not really worth going out of the way for, unfortunately. The only decent Mexican is up there, Cafe Maya. The proprietor is a lovely man named Luis from the Yucatan, and they have some interesting dishes, along with the usual nonsense.
Wine warehouse near Ossining
I have lived in Ossining for about a year and half.
I am looking for a really good wine shop. All the ones I have tried anywhere near there are really garbage. Industrial wines, poor selection, high prices.
To give you an idea of what I am looking for, I will reference two excellent places that are far away, Astor Wine in the Village, and Viscount Wines in Wappinger Falls. Astor is, of course, well known and very deserving of it's reputation, IMHO.
Viscount I throw in because I figure it's equivalent must be somewhere around in Westchester closer to home.
If you know of a small wine shop that is great, I am game, but I prefer big. OK, on this one, I think size matters.
