Some great food in Billings, now.

I visit Billings several time a year because I have family there. The dining scene used to be pretty barren, but it's much better now.

Enzo's, tho still in business, seems to have lost most of it's charm & good food.

The two restaurants that I can personally recommend are Stella's Kitchen & Bakery and Cafe Italia. Stella's for breakfast & Cafe Italia for dinner.

Both absolutely worth a try.

Best Restaurant Not in a Major Texas City - Texas

What did you have that was good at Wildfire? My husband & I have been there 3 times over the past 5 years or so and have been served mediocre to bad food every time. We won't be going back. I'm completely boggled as to what people find good about Wildfire.

Magimix Food Processor from France

I ordered my Magimix 5150 from the Chefs Catalog. I've owned it for a couple f weeks now, & I love it. Don't use it every day, but it's head & shoulders more powerful than my old Cuisinart (which said 'made in Japan' when I flipped it over). I'm not sure you can go wrong buying the 5150 -- it replaced my Chisinart, my mini-processor, my blender, & my juicer. Look for an older Chef's catalog that offers free shipping -- makes it an even better deal . . .

Kulfi

This stuff's great! I like it much more than my husband, but then I LOVE cardamum. I'm always looking for things to use it in.
Anyway -- this is a super easy & super good recipe. I had cardamum seeds, so I ground them in my (dedicated) coffee mill first, then mixed everything together & then put it in my ice cream maker for about 40 minutes, so didn't end up with the separation problem. I didn't put the sticks in it, just froze it in the little Pyrex bowls that I have. It filled 8 of them -- lots of calories, I'm sure, but wonderful to to eat with a spoon for a special snack. I found it less sweet than the Mexican vanilla ice cream that I make. Good One!
BTW, Penzey's is a great source any (wonderfully fresh) spices you might need.

My $100.00 plate of Central Texas BBQ

Do you know the story about Smitty's & Kreuz's?

From The Austin Chronicle 11/9/2001: When longtime Lockhart barbecue master "Smitty" Schmidt of Kreuz Market died in 1989, he left the family business to his son and the building that housed it to his daughter. There's no way to know whether he had any inkling of what would transpire approximately 10 years after his death. Sibling rivalry ensued, and when differences couldn't be resolved, Rick Schmidt moved the original family meat market operation to a brand-new building while sister Nina Schmidt Sells opened Smitty's Market in the spruced-up old building. The story made statewide and national news in the mid-1990s, depicting a situation where the barbecue world as we knew it was coming to an end. Sides were definitely taken. Barbecue fans all over the country held their collective breath.

I agree -- Smitty's is 'cute', but the barbecue is better at Kreuz's.

Magimix 5150 and 5100

I've been researching this today, & it appears that the difference between the two is only in what the Chefs catalog offers with the 5150 -- the citrus press, the juice extractor, & the 4mm slicer. shredder disc. Also, if you order from Chefs, shipping is free -- from Napa Style, looks like they add an additional $25.00 -- maybe because of the weight? I'm about to put my order in to Chefs right now.
