Bologna Restaurant itinerary--Suggestions requested

Last year, when i was in Bologna, Serghei looked closed.
Da Gianni was very pleasant, but mostly Americans when I was there. Enjoyed the Bollito Misto.
Trattoria del Rosso had good pastas and was very inexpensive. Mostly students and young people seeking good value. You might consider it for lunch or a light supper.
Slightly out of the center, but walking distance is Meloncello (at the foot of the climb to San Luca, which is worth the trip).
Antica Trattoria della Gigina was very good, but is a short cab ride from the center.
In Bologna, in general, we liked the pasta courses more than the seconds.

Verona Recommendations?

Al Pompiere was quite good. Especially their assortment of salume. Make sure to make reservations. Not overly touristy. La Fontanina is likely a short cab ride. A number of very pretty rooms decorated with antiques. Pasta dishes and the beef braised in Amarone were great. Quite romantic.

Porchetti is a classic Verona trattoria that is half way between San Zeno and Castelvecchio (both highly recommended). I started with bigoli in hare sauce and my wife had taglietelle with a quartet of toppings on the side (mushrooms, chicken liver, meat sauce, tomato sauce). Our second was a choice of meats and vegetables from a huge cart of roasted and boiled delicacies. Very friendly staff, although they did not speak English. Excellent quality and good value

The Original Zombie

Very good. Very potent. Don't forget the mint garnish. There is really no substitute for the Lemon Hart 151. Be careful with the Pernod (or Absinthe as I use). Too much ruins the drink. I use an eye dropper. 6 to 9 drops, depending on the strength of flavor of your booze and size of your dropper. The original recipe calls for crushed ice blended 5 seconds. With cubes, you may want to go to 10 seconds.

I am a member of my local (us) chapter and I read Italian reasonably well, but I have not been able to find it. Could you offer some guidance?

Jen, is there a way to get the slow food writeups on line? I have the English version of the Slow Food Osterie guide from 2006, but would like some newer info.

Suggestions for Padova and Verona

Thanks, Jen

I have been an avid follow of your posts and all have been informative. Yes we have reservations for Scrovegni. I am looking for a simple trattoria near there. Perhaps L'Anfora?
Le Calandre seems far away. We are thinking of going there for dinner.

Oh and any good bars or bacari would also be great. Is there much of an aperitivo culture in Bologna?

Any new info on Bologna?

I am thinking Gigina, Meloncello and Serghei. Any other suggestions?

A friend recommended Da Silvio. Does anyone know this place?

Thanks again.

Thanks in advance.
Considering Le Calandre in Padua. Is it still worth the splurge? Could also use a lunch recommendation near the Cappella degli Scrovegni.

In Verona, I think we will eat at La Fontanina one night. Any other reqs for local flavor chow?

Possibly a day trip to Valpolicella. Does anyone have suggestions for a wine/food itinerary?

Thanks again.

Napoleons in Boulder/Denver

Coming to this a bit late. I just had a great raspberry napleon from La Baguette de Normandy in Parker. They also had the more traditional custard style. They also make great baquette sandwiches and croque monsieur. Only one table to sit down, but a real treat in an area that is a bit of a culinary desert .

Teatro de Sale in firenze. Lunch or Dinner?

3 years ago, when I was there, il teatro was only open evenings when there was a show scheduled. Check the website for schedule. Trattoria Cibreo has similar food and is open for lunch. TC is closed Sunday and Monday.

Final help with Venice 4 days.

With the help of PBSF, Jen Kalb, JoeH, Badwaiter and many others, I am firming up my plans for 4 days in Venice.

Sunday, we arrive late. Have a late reservation at Bistrot de Venise

Monday, Plan to go to museums and churches in the San Polo, Santa Croce area. Any suggestions for a quick lunch, cicchetti in this region?

Monday Dinner at Fiaschetteria Toscana.

Tuesday, need lunch suggestion near San Marco, again, cicchetti, or quick lunch.

Dinner at Alle Testiere.

Wednesday, no real plans. Either Dorsoduro and/or the Giudecca or a trip to the islands. Again, I would value lunch suggestions

Dinner Wednesday is open. I realize the places I have booked a high end and likely not overly traditional. Does anyone have a good suggestion for more local style, traditional fare?

Thanks in advance.

Denver Tech area

Of the steak houses, Del Frisco's is the best. Yia Yia's can be hit or miss. If you want interesting fast food, Mirch Grill is good, especially if you stick to their small bite ( chat) menu. Chopsticks Chinese bistro has good Szechuan dishes. If you have a car, Aurora is not far with lots of good ethnic choices.

Frozen Passion Fruit Puree Denver

Want to make Passion fruit syrup for Tiki Drinks!

Do you know a good source for frozen passion fruit puree or pulp in denver?

I have been trying asian and latino markets with little success.

I would prefer something unsweetened with minimal ingredients.

Thanks!

I am a big fan of Silla. Kind of a hole in the wall, but friendly. Enjoy their tofu soup and cold buckwheat noodles. Great lunch specials, has grills and has barbecue assortments which are enough to feed 3 to 6 people and come with a bottle of Soju!

Family dinner in Philadelphia.

Thank you for all the adive. It turned out the teenagers made plans of their own. The four adults had a wonderful dinner at Amada. We went for the tasting menu and were very pleased. It was one of the best meals of our trip and the relaxed pase with shared dishes was just right for getting reaquainted with old friends.

Family dinner in Philadelphia.

Returning to Philadelphia after 8 years. looking for dinner in center city for 4 adults and 2 teenagers. The teenagers are a little fussy; something like pizza on the menu as a fallback would be a plus. Chinese or Italian would work. Looking to have a good social time, so formal dining is out. Shared small plates would be great. I was thinking about Cichetteria 19. Garces restaurants might be a little adventurous for the teens. Do you folks have any thoughts?

Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna suggestions?

Just got back from Milan. My two favorite lunches were at:
Latteria San Marco (Via San Marco 24).
Trattoria degli Orti (Via Monviso 13).
Both excellent, though a little more expensive than the average trattoria.
You may wish to buy a copy of the Slow Food Italy guide now printed in English: Osterie &Locande D'Italia A Guide to Traditional Places to Eat and Stay in Italy by Slow Food Editore. Great guide to inexpensive quality places to eat. Real Chow material.
