Minor's soup base in Seattle

I didn't realize it was that high...it has been a long time since I ordered and I always ordered multiple items and waited for sales. Current code is SA714 for 15% off until tomorrow.

Anyone been to some of these?

I had a good breakfast at Dirty Oscar's Annex and have friends who vouch for their lunch and dinner menus.

Eating Corn On The Cob--What's Your Style???

I once had a cat who loved corn cobs. He'd hold them down with a paw so they didn't roll while he chewed on them.

Honest Biscuit or Biscuit Bitch?

Wandering Goose is another one you might add to your options.

What is it that really turns your stomach?

I'm getting better about seafood, but biting into a scallop that crunches or getting a bone in a bite of fish usually finishes my meal.

teriyaki closed on Sundays

Toshio's is closed for religious reasons.

http://toshiosteriyaki.com/restaurant...

I expect that other places are closed on Sundays because it would be their slowest business day (since they do lots of M-F lunch business).

Best of the farmer's markets - Seattle area

I also do a quick circuit to see who has what and what looks good any particular week. That said, it's a rare week that I don't buy something from Alvarez Farms. Standouts are their peppers, eggplants, cantaloupe and dried beans.

"We reserve the right to refuse...." Whole Foods

That's precisely why a local restaurant I frequent put up such a sign. It's now code for "act like a civilized human being or we don't want your business".

more than burgers at KronnerBurger [Oakland]

Amazon is going to wonder why there's a sudden run on this out of print book! (Copies available, reasonably priced.)

New refrigerator

No alarm, but it SHOULDN'T need one. Sliding a drawer shut isn't as fussy as the French doors seem to be. Of course, it's also our first icemaker and that's a revelation as well. When the novelty wears off and he's not opening the freezer every 20 minutes, we'll have fewer accidents.

New refrigerator

We went with the bottom freezer and single door Maytag. We are a couple and our kitchen is not large. We did get a size up from our old top freezer fridge, so its capacity seems immense. It's quite attractive and was considerably cheaper than the French door models. My husband has managed to not close the freezer completely a couple of times, but that's more of a training issue than a problem. In fact, the problem of him reliably closing the doors was a big concern with the French door design.

Green Onion Rant

I can't help you with the fresh herb thing, but you can buy chopped green onions at salad bars. Not cheap, but no waste. I have seen stores selling celery by the rib, for which I am grateful.

Ditto on Ellenos. "Yogurt? What could be so great about yogurt?" you say? Try it. My favorite is the nutty fruity muesli.

is salt really heated to 1200 degrees F?

And on what planet are you finding pristine sea water?

Costco Food Finds - 2nd Quarter 2015

Possibly long gone by now, though the "use or freeze by" date is August: Meal Mart Hungarian Style Beef Stuffed Cabbage (Kosher for Passover). As it says on the label, "in sweetened tomato sauce". If that's the way you like them, they're really good. Found at Costco #1 in Seattle in the refrigerated section near the cheese.

Tianan Guan Miau Sliced Noodles

Apparently I was too vague. How are these noodles commonly used? Most of the pictures I've seen of the two main Tainan style noodle dishes, beef noodle soup and Dan zai noodles, use round noodles. I was wondering if these were used for something special. I guess not.

How can I slice crusty bread without making such a mess?

I used to have a bread knife that was actually a hacksaw blade set into a wood bow handle. It worked really well, but I seem to recall plenty of crumbs flying anyway.

University , Wallingford , Fremont , Ballard ?

Not doubting your taste, just surprised. Worth checking out next time we're dining on the Ave. Looking at their online menu, I can certainly say that the last time I ate there, "good taste frog legs" were not on the menu.

Seriously? China First? Please elaborate! I haven't been there in a long time as the last time I ate there I thought it had slipped past mediocre to "can we get Chinese at Safeway instead?".

Varsity Inn Wallingford black beans

Went there for breakfast this morning and had their carnitas breakfast. The pork was wonderful. The black beans were perplexing. Has anyone else had them? I tasted and pondered, not even sure if I liked them or not. Wine? They seemed sweet and the closest I could come to describing is that it tasted like someone had stirred a jar of grape jelly into them. I didn't know how to ask without sounding critical or loony. ("Chowhound: Where you can sound critical and loony without looking a very nice waitress in the eye.") I'm just curious as I've never tasted anything like them.

Poll: Favorite everyday glassware?

Warning: If you don't love them, don't get them. They will be with you for a very long time. I also have ones that have seen 25+ years of daily abuse.

What is a "medium" chinese eggplant?

I hate recipes like that. Eggplant comes in so many different shapes and sizes, "3 medium" is meaningless. I'd say 18 inches is a large eggplant. Looking around the web, 8-12" seems more common for Chinese eggplant, so maybe 1 to 1 1/2 of the eggplants you have should be sufficient.
