Peppermint bark, what didn't you buy?

I haven't gone to Trader Joe's even though I know they have the marzipan filled stollen again this year...or maybe BECAUSE I know they have the stollen.

Casino Suggestion

I'm not a big casino-goer, but Snoqualmie is the closest and I think it's the nicest of the ones in the immediate Seattle area. I've only eaten at the Asian Bistro, but it was fine.

How do I make a good coffee at 7-Eleven?

This is a good combo. The sweetened coffee beverages are too much on their own, but you cut them with regular coffee and then add a little more cream and you've got something quite palatable.

Pot & Pan suggestions for my 87 year old mother

Someone just mentioned seeing Oxo cookware--I hadn't heard anything about it, but given their reputation it's something to look into. When my Mom (a little older than yours) wanted a new saucepan I got her a good ol' Farberware. They're inexpensive, fairly lightweight and well shaped. Not high-end, but will likely serve her well for the limited cooking she wants to do.

Linden, anyone?

I've never used it for anything but tea. I'm interested to hear of other uses.

Costco Food Finds - 4th Quarter 2014

Report from Costco #1 in Seattle. Evan Williams Bourbon Egg Nog is back! Last year they had a Kirkland brand spiked eggnog which I didn't think was as good. The EW is in a standard 750ml bottle rather than the larger jug. Other items I noticed, Ile de France mini brie (for those of us who need brie to be a controlled substance), frozen French Recipe flatbreads that I hope are as good as TJ's Tarte d'Alsace, Trident frozen salmon bites. Also succumbed to the chocolate chunk cookies made by Walker's that others have mentioned.

Dinner at London Plane?

Has anyone been? $69 per couple (what if you have an odd number of diners?) with daily "themes"--Wednesday chicken, Thursday pasta, Friday fish and Saturday couscous.

Where Can I Get Dondurma in Seattle?

Yet another reason to visit Turkey! It's a beautiful country and the food is awesome. You might also ask at Cafe Turko in Fremont. I don't know that they make it, but they might know where it could be had.

Where Can I Get Dondurma in Seattle?

They have mastic gelato at Fainting Goat Gelato in Wallingford. I don't know if that's exactly the same...I didn't see them stretching it!

Seattle Donuts

Especially when you consider that if not constrained by my desire to fit into my clothes, I could easily eat multiple donuts at a sitting...especially if accompanied by coffee. And yes, Lola does the fresh donuts in a paper bag at breakfast, and they're worth every calorie.

Restaurants with Seattle or pacific northwestern feel?

Haters gonna hate, but Ivar's Salmon House is a hit with many. Long house decor, availability of alder grilled fish. I recall a guest looking at the menu and exclaiming "I didn't know there were that many kinds of salmon!" Meets your price point, too.

Seattle Donuts

Another place I've gotten good donuts is Madison Park Bakery. I've never understood the love for Mighty-O donuts unless you're vegan. If I had a 2 week "calories don't count" pass I'd love to do an extensive survey. Checking the nutritional info on Top Pot's site is a real crave-killer.

Are Fissler PCs really all that?

My local store stocks some Kuhn Rikon but they're featuring the Fisslers. I still rather regret not buying a KR when we were vacationing in Switzerland a few years back...we were travelling by train and I didn't want to carry it or ship it.
