Kid-friendly thing to do with radishes?

From Kitchen Parade (kitchenparade.com):

EASY RADISH SPREAD
In a food processor, whiz a half pound of trimmed red radishes, 3 green onions and 4 to 8 ounces of low-fat cream cheese (Neufchatel). Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve with pita crisps or fresh vegetables.

You can even skip the green onions. I made it into sandwiches with rye bread. Not "radishy" at all.

Murray's Cheese Shop @ QFC

Is it really different than their regular old cheese department, or did they just change the signs? I was in a rush the last time I was in, so I didn't have time to investigate, but it didn't look like much of a change.

Bake sale? What should i bake?

I was going to suggest lemon bars--they go quick. Banana bread is also popular. Whole pies went well as did bags of homemade granola. But others are right, don't be shy about sticking with the basics.

Can I restore this silver plated flatware?

Here's an online place that actually lists prices. Looks like online orders get a 25% discount. That'll give you an idea if it's more than you want to invest.

Cuisinart Pizza Oven?

That's the problem--they don't list the model number. I think I'll have to pass because the only real spot in the kitchen for it is already occupied by other appliances. Does it get hot enough that having cabinets overhanging it is a problem?

Cuisinart Pizza Oven?

Am I missing a deal? Ideeli has a Cuisinart Pizza Oven Broiler on sale for $79.99. I don't really have the counter space to spare, but does anyone have experience of one of these? It looks like a toaster oven on steroids with broil pan, baking tray, 2 wire racks and baking stone. As I don't have a baking stone and I do make pizza regularly, it's certainly tempting at that price.

Anybody grow fennel?

In other words, it's invasive. Once established it's pretty hard to kill.

Ramekin substitute (for baked eggs/eggs en cocotte)

I've used coffee mugs successfully.

TURKEY Reuben

Roxy's Diner in Fremont makes them.

Hungweilo - not seattle related, but didn't know where to post

Which reminds me of going to a Chinese restaurant with my Japanese college roommate where she exclaimed "It's just like Chinese restaurants in Japan!"

Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?

Cafe Flora was my first thought, too. I think the atmosphere as well as the menu would be very appropriate for the occasion.

40th Birthday Dinner

I'd suggest Le Gourmand while you have the chance--they're closing June 2nd.

Mariners/Safeco hot dogs in grocery stores

They're made by Cloverdale meats. I got them at Costco, but I haven't looked for them recently.

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 1st quarter 2012 [old]

I think it made a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich.

Apres-ski Eats between Steven's Pass and Seattle

Too funny! That's where we ate last Saturday! I think we'd ask for 4 star instead of our usual 3 next time, but it was good.

Bean Cookbook recommendations

I'm partial to The Brilliant Bean by Martin & Sally Stone. It's out of print, but copies are readily available. I'm ordering "Bean by Bean"--thanks for the recommendation, pikawicca!

The Mystery Chef

I've had a copy for ages and have never actually used it. I'll have to take a look. Any other recommended recipes? I'm sure my husband would think it a banner day if I made him a chocolate cream pie!

Apres-ski Eats between Steven's Pass and Seattle

I'm a new skiier and one of the things that makes getting up well before dark to get to my early lesson is the promise of a meal on the way home. I'm not looking for fine dining, I want "I survived another day on the slopes and I'm starved!" food. We've tried Sultan Bakery, The Cascadia Inn (Skykomish), The Hitching Post and one of the many Mexican places in Monroe--I don't remember the name. Any other suggestions? Last week we didn't stop until we got to the Maltby Cafe and that's really too long to wait for sustinance!

Crab soup

Another alternative is Chandler's whiskey crab soup, which is wonderful stuff.

Chandler's Crabhouse & Fresh Fish Market

Safeway Select Pizza Dough

Has anyone tried it? I noticed it in this week's ad--apparently bagged in the service deli section "16 oz assorted varieties" $1.50.

Things you thought you didn't need but were wrong about, and things you thought you needed but really didn't

I will vouch for Minor's low sodium bases and soupbase.com. Once you have it in the fridge you'll find you use it a lot.

Things you thought you didn't need but were wrong about, and things you thought you needed but really didn't

You don't use a colander? That surprises me. I expect you're better at draining things with just the pot and the lid than I am!

Trader Joe's February 2012 Fearless Flyer is out

The wasabi roasted seaweed snack has been around for awhile. A coworker described it as, "like being punched in the mouth by air...in a good way!" If you like wasabi and nori, it's a must buy.

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 1st quarter 2012 [old]

Speculoos butter filled dark chocolate bar. As good as it sounds.

Costco food finds - 1st quarter 2012 [old]

That sounds like something to watch for! Has anyone seen it in other areas of the country?

lookong for best value

We went once after the regime change. It wasn't as good. And no more Eggs ala Goldenrod, either.

in search of Mochi

There's a relatively new place on Jackson you might try. They were "coming soon" for a very long time but are now open:

Umai Do Japanese Sweets
1825 S Jackson St Ste 100, Seattle, WA 98144-2257
(206) 325-7888

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

Beans here, too. Pintos were also favored in our house. We'd put a slice of bread in the bowl to soak up the juice. I went through a kid's "oh no, beans again" phase, but now I'm a bean believer. Had them for breakfast yesterday as a matter of fact, with a bit of feta cheese that had to go.

What Are Your Most and Least Favorite Pasta Shapes?

This reminds me--I wouln't eat vermicelli for YEARS after my Dad told me what it meant! Some of my favorites are buccatini, gemelli, radiatore and campanelle. I will often buy a new shape of pasta just for novelty.

Seattle Coffee History question (Corona Coffee)

My searches turned up quite a bit. For example, they advertised in the UW yearbook in 1916. Slogan: "The aristocrat of coffees". Apparently it was a fairly popular brand for quite a long time, I also found an ad from the Spokane Daily Chronicle July 26th, 1940. Their slogan then? "Costs More, Worth More"
