Pino's in Cleveland Circle, what's the fuss?

Point taken, but I would not equate Pino's with Wonder Bread. Its cheap and tasty, and fills the bill just fine when you are in the neighborhood and want a slice. Sugar has it exactly right.

Pino's in Cleveland Circle, what's the fuss?

Who makes a fuss about Pino's? Conan O'Brien? Only because that's where he went in HS. And that is exactly what Pino's is - the place you go after HS soccer practice, or clubbing in Brighton (to the extent one can go clubbing in Boston) or whenever you want a slice. Its not a gourmet destination.

Personally, I'll go there many times before I'd get a mashed potato, bacon, and scallion "pizza".

Non-spicy options at Sichuan Garden

Going to Sichuan Garden in Brookline with spouse and friends with delicate sensibilities. I plan on getting my usual Chonqin Chicken - any recs for my dining companions?

Must-eat and must-shop questions, with a home base of Coolidge Corner.

I'm pretty sure everyone at Bazaar can speak English just fine. Now whether they choose to.....

Family Restaurant has great Baba Ganoush.

Cheap groceries? Moving to Brookline area,,..from out of state

No one has mentioned Allandale Farm. Not cheap but support your only in-city working farm. Best apple cider around, Clear Flour bread, u-pick quality (but not price) berries in season, and bags of tomato seconds for $5 in late summer.

Also, while Brookline farmers market has nice variety, parking is a royal pain. If you are in South Brookline, Roslindale market on Saturday mornings may be more convenient.

Open on Christmas-Near Children's Hospital?

Nice paying it forward. Legal's takes a lot of hits on this board, but we are fortunate to have a restauranteur here that is very reliable with respect to seafood quality and customer satisfaction. Hope all goes well with your kiddo.

Best of Brookline - 2011 Edition

I'll add:

La Morra
Shiki (japanese)
Bottega Fiorentina (sandwiches and pasta)

It also depends on where in Brookline you live - that will direct you towards Allston/Brighton, Newton Center, or JP/West Rox.

You won't starve.

Razor Clams- Season? Boston Vendors?

and then pan fried within an hour of harvesting. Amen.

Need recommendation for Chinese Restaurant in Brookline/West Roxbury

Mandarin Gourmet is suburban Chinese, not bad for what it is, but not authentic. Of the two others, Sichuan Garden is closest to West Rox.

Globe Article on Seafood Substitutions.

Not all supermarket salmon is farmed - wild-caught fish is clearly labeled (usually sockeye, not the bestest salmon but pretty good on the grill).

Santa Cruz for East-Coaster

I'll be visiting my kiddo - grad student at UCSC - and I would appreciate some recommendations. I have some wildly disparate categories, so please indulge me.

1. Mexican - decidedly lacking here in Boston. Can be simple but something more than a taqueria.
2. Sushi
3. special dinner. I'm thinking La Posta? We have lots of good Italian here but the locavore take would be interesting.

Thanks for any help.

Bottega di Capri

Kudos to them on their nice write-up in the Globe today. Italian home cooking channeled through Argentina. Most everything there looks good to me, but I never get past their Italian sandwich, on great bread.

Trattorias in Rome

Thanks all, they sound great.

Trattorias in Rome

The problem is that it is difficult to get a sense of cost for many of the recommended restaurants (except the high end places and the pizzerias), and restaurant web sites generally don't list prices. Your advice regarding sharing is appreciated.

Trattorias in Rome

My wife and I have four Sept. nights in Rome (including one Sunday) and would appreciate restaurant recommendations (yes, I have searched the board). We enjoy local fare when we travel but we are not foodies; just looking for simple non-touristic modestly-priced (25-30 Euro pp?) places. Antipasti, pasta, grilled/roasted meats preferred; we'll snack on pizza and, after Rome, we travel to the Amalfi coast so we will do our fish binging there. Wine lists not a factor - we are plonk drinkers and will no doubt be happy with house wines. We are staying on the Corso Vittoria Emanuelle in the historical center, but plan on walking all over the place.

Thanks for your advice.

Restaurant Week!

and tell those kids to get off my lawn.

where to buy lamb?

I am jonesing for grilled lamb kebobs but not at $10/lb at Shaws. Any suggestions? Butterflied or boneless leg is great but I'll hack away at a bone in if necessary.

Casual dinner near Cedars-Sinai/Sofitel

Flying in from East Coast, arriving late, won't be that hungry, but would like to get some local eats. Asian? Latin? Something I don't get here in Boston.

Why no love for Le's in Allston?

If only there were someplace to park....

Moving to Chestnut Hill

For good bad Chinese takeout you might try Fortune Panda on Rt. 9. They do most things ok and some things very well (e.g. house special seafood soup). Also Noodle House in Newton Center. A little farther, Super 88 in Brighton.

For farmer' market, Cold Spring Park is as good as Brookline's market and easier to park. Allandale is ok, especially in late summer (e.g. $5 bags of ripe but not pretty tomatoes. And you are 20 minutes from Russo's, for good produce year-round.

2nd Rotisserie for roast chicken. Also their ribs are surprisingly good (altho not real 'que; still need to schlep to Blue Ribbon for that).

For italian, Tartufo in Newton Center gets mixed reviews but we've had good meals there. For red sauce italian Carlo's Cucina in Brighton is deservedly popular.

Sol Azteca - Newton Centre

They have an excellent cilantro sauce - basically salsa verde on steroids - which is great on fish. Most everything else I have tried is standard fare suburban mex.

Need a good sub near Brookline hospitals

If you want the best italian in the area try Bottega di Capri, a block down from Brookline Spa (http://www.bottegadicapri.com/). Great meats, great bread, nice people, not nearly as precious (in $ or hype) as Cutty's. Lots of great pasta choices as well.

Any Westchester restaurants host Passover seders or meals?

Yes, a hotel or restaurant is what they would probably like. At 85 years they are unfortunately not very sociable or flexible, and pretty intolerant of kids.

Any Westchester restaurants host Passover seders or meals?

My parents would like to have a passover dinner - their synagogue does not host a seder and they are not comfortable attending a private one where they do not know anyone.

Capital Grille Restaurant Week

Went last night and had a fine meal. Steaks were cooked medium rare as requested (on one try) and were excellent. Apps and sides were ok, a bit salty, but everything is to us when we go out as we cook with with no added salt. The creme brulee and raspberry sorbet were very nice. Despite a frenetic Tuesday night, and pretty clearly not the Capital Grille's usual crowd, the staff - from valet to server to manager - were pleasant and professional.

For us the suggestion to go to a steakhouse during RW was perfect. I would not go otherwise - the dinner we had was a great value, but their regular prices exceed my dinner-out budget.

Where do you eat with your young kids?

That is a pretty good list, but I'm surprised it does not include Doyles. When they expanded 20-odd years ago they made the back room non-smoking. Combine that with the booths, the paper placemats and crayons and it became family-land, but with good beer. We still go with the girls when they are back from college, and they still get the steak tips.

Dinner before show @ The Wang...

Avila on Charles Street, used to have a pre-theater menu.

ITALIAN REST IN NORTH END

I'll add a vote for Maurizio's. Can be uneven, but generally something interesting on the menu.

Today's Groupon- Petit Robert Bistro

Why not? If you know you will be in the mood for a bistro dinner in the next 6 months, PRB would do nicely and $20 off is $20 off.
