Extended Winterlicous??

Don't let a few bad apples ruin your entire experience! There are many restaurants and servers who depend on Winterlicious for their livelihood, and who love the program. The Toronto Star decided to follow the 'bleeds/leads' school of journalism on that one. Try out others!

Rumour Re: Winterlicious

It's official - the press release from the City was just distributed - Winterlicious is extended Feb. 16-28. Restaurants have a choice to opt in. The list will be available at www.toronto.ca/winterlicious as of tomorrow morning.

So far interest from the restaurant industry has been very positive - with only a handful of restaurants choosing not to participate.

This is a first for the City - some restaurants continue the program on their own, but this is the first official extension to the program since its inception. It's due to the overwhelmingly positive response to this year’s promotion, and in light of the financial situation facing restaurateurs in the current economy.

According to Peter Oliver from Oliver & Bonacini: “Extending the Winterlicious promotion this year is smart and proactive. Torontonians have once again embraced the promotion enthusiastically, despite economic fears, and our employees are grateful to be working in restaurants that are busy and energized. It’s good for our city, good for our economy, and it’s keeping people employed.”

Winterlicious prices

There's definitely some restaurants in the higher price category that have gotten more creative with their menus... offering an artisanal cheese plate for dessert, or including fois gras or organic meats. Apparently the restauranteurs requested the higher price point so they could flex their creative muscle a bit without taking the hit financially. I think if it translates, it could be very good for the program. And there's 20 more restaurants in the program over last year, and many still in the 25/35 category, so there's still lots to choose from.

WINTERLICIOUS -- is out, new price ranges

This year's crop of culinary events looks pretty great... Dining in the Dark and Food + Fashion are sold out, but Lorenzo Lotto's 'Under a Winter Sky' and the Artisanal Brewers event at Todmorden (among others) seem pretty cool.

It looks like the 'warm up' series in the WinterCity Festival also have some neat food related events: http://www.toronto.ca/special_events/... ,,, poetry, prosecco and pasta - yum!
