Please, People of LA... Where can I find my Goose Island brews?!?!

Trading is the way to go for out of state beers but it comes at a premium because of the added shipping costs.

Please, People of LA... Where can I find my Goose Island brews?!?!

Bourban County was available for a fair bit of time in the four packs before they started selling them in bombers. Red Carpet carried it and I've also bought BC at Wholefoods in Glendale.

However, that does not help out now since I have not seen it in a while on the local shelves.

Carne Asada Burrito or Taco in Los Angeles

Glad you found something worthy but from your posts you made it sound like SD is swirling with places likes this.

I lived there for 20 years and I can tell you that SD has just as much mediocre carne asada as we do up here.

The one place you mentioned Gordos as you said is a taco specialist and it looks great (can't wait to try it on my next SD visit) but for sure that is not the standard for SD.

The Berto chains ( Al, Rob 1,2,3,4,5,, Aldi, Humb and so on) are the standard for SD and they are mediocre at best.

Carne Asada Burrito or Taco in Los Angeles

I agree A5, these guys lost all credibility mentioning Alberto's.

Carne Asada Burrito or Taco in Los Angeles

I think you are being overly dramatic.

LA Cheap Eats Food Tour--Any More Suggestions?

Well if you do make it to Trails Cafe order a lavender cookie.
Also since your there you might as well go up to the observatory and enjoy the view over your food kingdom. The view is free.

Moving to Claremont

Number 6 if you like Belgian beers there is the Back Abbey gastropub.

I can't help with much else. Claremont is way East of my jurisdiction.

Langer's vs. Katz's and One Other LA vs NY Observation

I've done the Katz deli Langers comparison in a 24 hour period and preferred Langers.

where can i get unhulled barley?

I'm not sure if it is applicable for your cooking needs but try contacting a homebrew supply store.

Thanks for posting that oc link.

The Trompa taco place sounds great!

Good Beer Bottle Shop in LA

Cap n cork is just slightly below Beverage Warehouse.
Nice list of beers but nothing crazy...

I would rank Vendome Toluca higher in terms of hard to find beers over Cap.

I would also recommend Wallys. Play nice, ask what is being held in the back room.

Beer trading is the best way to obtain hard to find non local beers but you will be paying a premium for your beer in terms of time and money.

Still if you want to impress your BG friends it's the way to go. It's also a nice way to payback your BG friends for sharing something special with you.

Bevmo is not awful I don't know how you can even say that.
They are not going to have anything to impress your BG friends but it is far from awful.

I agree on Wholefoods (Glendale) they have can have just as good of selection as the best bottle shops in town.

Sunset Beer in Echo Park

Nice review of the place, I stopped a few days ago myself.
I found it to be nice little spot to have a beer but not quite a beer destination place in anyone is wondering if it is worth crossing town to get there.

As far as the Hitachino sweet stout you might be disappointed when you find one. It's not the best beer in their lineup or the best example of a sweet stout but you should try it anyways to see for yourself.

Try calling Vendome Toluca Lake or check in with Farbar in Little Tokyo.
You can for sure find some of the other beers in their lineup around town like the Espresso Stout which is quite good and the XH which is the one aged in sake casks.

I would also recommend trying a Fantome Saison if you like the Dupont. It will be a little funkier but a Saison favorite among Saison fans.

Perfect restaurant to have an affair in.

Is that the tranny bar on San Fernando road in Cypress park? They have great food there.
Also the Silver Lake lounge use to be a good place to see a tranny show and they had a great
pizza.

Ramen Yamada-ya coming to Culver City in May

Made it in today right at the 5 pm opening.

The place filled up quickly.

A extremely rich broth with noodles that had a nice bite to them and the pork slices held there own with the rest of the components.

Yes the chicken Karage is done better then most and the curry hit the spot as well.

We had no issues with the timing / service and as we departed a line was forming at around 6.

A good alternative to Santouka.

Favorite Meals Under $5

Happybaker is correct it is near the intersection of ERB and York.

There is another stand next door that operates closer to the intersection of
ERB and York this is not the one you want.

The stand with the tamales is inside the used car lot with the metal fence around it.
It is not there every night so you just have to do a drive by and hope for the best.

They only have a green chicken tamale and the red. The red is the one you want the green is just ok.

They have other items as well I've tried but the best by far is the red tamales.

Favorite Meals Under $5

Oaxacan style mole tamales.
The stand is across the street in a used car lot at the North end of York Blvd across from the CVS.

One dollar a piece and they are perfectly done with these beautiful chocolate and coffee notes.
I would love to wash one down with a Parabola.

Food at Steingarten LA

I don't know about best that is subjective but stuff on the spicy side will pair well with an IPA.
Lots of sausages and spicy toppings to choose from on the menu.

Silverlake vegan??

I totally agree not elegant, just saying if they decide on Mohawk get seated in the back.

Silverlake vegan??

if you do decide to go to Mowhawk Bend make reservations and ask to be seated in the back room.

Words that Annoy You in Restaurant Reviews

meh...... really needs to be on this list

Huntington Beach Rec: Trejo's Mexican

I'm pretty sure it's daily (you can call to make sure) (714) 375-5677

Taqueria Don Victor

Huntington Beach, CA 92647

Does anyone also agree with me that Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles is just not that great?

I never been a fan of Roscoe's myself but I do get it if people like to go there.

I can eat at Tito's no problem and Marisco Chente's no big whoop.

Huntington Beach Rec: Trejo's Mexican

Have you tried Taqueria Don Victor?

I believe it is pretty close by according to your map.
I usually go there when I'm in the HB area for their Barbacoa.

I'll check out your place and see how they compare.

Thanks for posting.

looking for killer bar food

Thanks Linus, here's Mohawk's tap list.

looking for killer bar food

This may be a little premature but at least on the beer front you can add Mohawk Bend to the list.

They have 70 beers on tap. A pretty solid list with the usual suspects like Pliny and ect.
A few harder to find beers from Ballast like BA Victory, Sour Wench and for the Firestone fans 14 was on tap.

The neighbors were having pizza and said it was good along with the house salad.
The vibe, service and space was great.

I'll have to come back and try some of the dishes myself.
Although by the amount of food bloggers I seen in there snapping and recording the reports should be coming in fast and furious.

Lempira - Honduran Food in East Hollywood

One of those places I don't expect to see written about but come to find out it's been written about a few times.

Yes, the plantain dish is great.

looking for killer bar food

I would agree out all the places mentioned on this thread Beer Belly would be on the top of my list.

They indeed have a good local tap list.

Joan's on Third

We ate a ton on a expense account but yeah as you said very pricey like everything else.
If you got it and want it then it's a great place.

We could of saved a small village on the amount we spent on ice cream.

Is Breed Street Food Fair still around?

I was by there the other night and the B of A parking lot was a ghost town.

There was nothing happening in front of the church just South of Breed street either where you can still find some tasty stuff.

I ended up going further South to Breed and 4th where the Pozole stand is usually set up.

Even though the actual Breed street is gone (for me) it is never a loss to go up to that area and drive around and sample foods from the various street vendors.

Some if it's just ok and some is on par with the old Breed street.

Very "LA" restaurants with outdoor seating to take visitors?

For a low key breakfast or lunch in a great outdoor setting try the Trails Cafe in Griffith Park.
Kid friendly, dog friendly, and there's a chance at a possible star sighting if your friends are impressed by that kind of thing.

Excellent food, some of the hits out of many include the avocado sandwich, lavender short bread cookies, scones it's vegetarian but don't let that scare you off.

I'm not and i don't miss being a carnivore when I'm there.

A hidden LA gem.
