where can i buy Acili ezme?

i just got back from turkey, and one of my favorite things was this spicy tomato/paprika dip. i don't recall seeing it at any turkish falafel joints. would maybe kalustyans sell this in a jar?

Help! Need a chocolate cake for Sunday evening

It's my dad's 60th birthday dinner this Sunday and my mother put me in charge of getting the cake. I have been lactose intolerant for over 10 years, so bakeries are hardly my specialty. Where can I get a moist, not too sweet chocolate cake for a pick up on Sunday around 6:30-7? Would prefer somewhere on the west side (eating on the Upper West Side). I was considering Balthazar or Kyotofu for something more offbeat?

red cat or cookshop?

i'm agreeing with everyone. i went to cookshop shortly after it opened and everyone was underwhelmed. finally went to red cat a few weeks ago and everyone loved it. it'll be a new standard spot for my family.

bereket lentil soup secret?

that is great to know. any idea if they use cream as well (in wburg)? this is interesting as i'm lactose intolerant and never had a bad reaction after bereket.

what's new in curry hill

i've never spent much time in this area, but am soon starting a job right around here so i foresee a lot of indian/pakistani food for lunch. what are the good veggie options that will cost under $10? i am familiar with chennai garden, madras mahal, pongal, and kalustyans. i am also adding saravanaas, haandi and tiffin wallah to my list as i haven't yet been. what else is good, or better than what i have listed? i am also looking for non-indian choices. thanks!

Any decent japanese noodly places in the vicinity of Flatiron/Union square?

is there a menu online anywhere for setagaya?

Where can I get San Francisco style sourdough bread in NYC??

i'd be interested if there is any place that comes close. i remember reading a big discussion on the SF board a few months back about how there were only 2-3 places left in the city that had real deal sourdough.

a few weeks ago, a friend staying with me discovered quechal (sp?) organic market on graham near grand. i was overjoyed by the discovery. most of the prices are quite reasonable and they have a decent produce section. please go support them, i want them to stay in business!

help! grocery shopping off graham L

yeah, i was starting to figure as much. i've been in rosemary, but couldn't believe the prices were more expensive than manhattan prices!

help! grocery shopping off graham L

i just moved to the neighborhood and was appalled by the c-town by the stop. the produce section was pathetic and there was moldy fruit with flies and all - disgusting! where do you locals do your food shopping?? it's sad that the supermarkets in greenpoint are so much better, i miss the garden!
