Paris help: 2 nights (including Sunday) with an unadventurous eater

I will be in Paris this Saturday and Sunday, and am wracking my brains for where to eat each evening.

As the title states, this will be with a less than adventurous eater, so perhaps a great bistro where I can get something quite scrumptious and that would have a good steak frites for my guest?

Also, I'll be taking him around town to see the sites, and sample some pastries. Jacques Genin for sure, along with Pierre Herme - any other thoughts?

Maybe Breizh for another option?

Wow!

We were there at the same time, and had a completely different experience. We had everything, and thought it all fantastic.

I hate that you missed the parfait - it was outstanding. As was the oatmeal.

I'm also scratching my head at the sweetness in the Pescador, and wondering if something happened with yours. Neither my wife nor myself felt that way at all.

But then again, I'm not a brunch lover in general, so perhaps had tempered my expectations. We both would return in a heartbeat. Really looking forward to trying them for dinner.

Anniversary dinner: Osteria Mozza or A.O.C.?

I think this is a fantastic summation of the two, so, if you're only considering these, I would go by this for reference.

Enjoy either way, and Happy Anniversary!

L.A. Lays a Goose Egg at the James Beard Awards 2015

I have no problems with this. It's not like LA has never had a Beard winner.

I greatly enjoy the wondrous, myriad options we have here in LA. And, yes, these are at least partially biased to NYC (at the least).

But, to quickly go over the ones where an LA chef was nominated (based on this Eater link: http://www.eater.com/2015/5/1/8524515...):

- Best New Restaurant: no chance in hell Ludo & Shook/Dotolo deserved to beat out literally any other option in this list. Not for Petit Trois.

- Outstanding Chef: Don't think Goin deserved it, but I would've chosen Link over Anthony. Not too bothered with the result, though.

- Outstanding Pastry Chef: This should've been Tosi's a few years ago, though she is till deserving. What she has done for the pastry world has rippled throughout the country - and further.

- Outstanding Wine Program: Spago is a dinosaur, with the appropriate and accompanying wine list. Very deep, but safe.

- Rising Star Chef: The one where I would feel, if I cared at all, LA had the best shot. Still, can't hate on what Largey is doing at Manresa.

- Best Chef (West): Any of the three not from LA I would choose over the ones here - and I love Animal. I guess Accarrino might've been nice, given his stint at Craft here years ago, but SBP and Benu are both far ahead of the others.

tl;dr - No big deal. The wheel turns ...

What are some over-rated L.A. restaurants to you? Why, specifically? Only one each!

For what? That's like asking me what are my top three choices for places to visit on holiday.

When asked, I usually try and tailor my response towards the individual's interests/tastes.

And as ipse notes above - I'm not saying some/all of these places are not good (whatever that means), just that they're overrated.

And, typically, I feel very well treated. Have been fortunate to have some amazing experiences and meals.

I do not mean to imply she has any connection with this, and it does sound like a wonderful - and wonderfully beneficial - event.

My general point remains: getting one's knickers in a twist over this seems like such a colossal and exhausting waste of mental energy.

Such a great selection, and I stocked up on the Echire, along with many other products.

I love corn. Love. As in, L-O-V-E.

If I went in to Maude specifically for that ingredient - which I am hoping to sneak in one night this month (whenever it actually starts) - and was never told about the change (either in phone confirmation or by the host/ess upon being greeted/seated), I'd have pitched an outright "bitch fit".

You cannot have an "Iron Chef" themed restaurant, boast about the "Secret Ingredient of the Month" (SIOTM), and then pull the rug out from under me. Well, you *can*, but I'd most likely have walked out.

Gentrification of Los Angeles Chinatown Continues--Little Jewel

As an LA (not L.A.) native, I am eagerly awaiting this.

Aside from our kitchen, I've yet to find any Creole/Cajun place worth even a plugged nickel.

Petit Trois, No Reservations, No Phone, No Cash & No tipping...

I'm one of the most price-insensitive people I know, but I staunchly refuse to pay $39 for that Steak Frites. That's just laughable, and it looks like a fucking mess, too.

But I've not slurped the Ludo Kool-Aid. After trying several of his Ludo Bites, as well as eating his cuisine at other food events, I just think he's a lot more Krissy than Ludo - i.e. more sizzle than steak.

I will give Trois Mec a try at some point, I guess, but I'm not in a rush.

Lastly, that Millefeuille looks yawn-inducing. Nothing like the one at Genin (pic) in 15er. And that Tarte Citron was life changing.

But I digress ...

It's always been the evening when I've stopped into Stan's; perhaps I need to swing by first thing in the morning to get them as fresh as possible. Don't know when that would ever be, though, as I've no reason to be in that area.
