christmas party lunch byo in center city

It is time for the office christmas party luncheon. Aside from the extremely nonadventerous eater issue, we really need a byo. Having done this for many years, the alcohol bill adds up, even when people stick to one to two drinks each.
We have 35 dollars per person to spend on the lunch. We are safest sticking to American food or Italian. My toddlers were more adventerous eaters than these folks.
We are at 7th and Walnut and looking for something easy to get to, preferably walkable.
Many byo's are not open for lunch.
Suggestions?

HanDyNasty Favorites! Come one, come all!

Nonspicy favorite for me at Han dynasty is the baby bok choy and black mushrooms.
Spicier dishes that I love are the cold green bean noodles, Dan dan noodles, dumplings in hot oil ( I like the dumplings more than the wontons but both are good). The fish filet hot pot is great, and spicy. I also love the fried beef with hot peppers.

Philly's Best Korean?

The restaurant on Township Line Rd in the same strip mall as the Korean market is To Dam Gol and it is much more of a hole in the wall than Korea Garden, but less expensive and more authentic.

Quintessential Philly Dinner

Our endless number of great BYO's are unique. These are generally small chef run places where a great amount of love and attention is put into the food. Bibou, Melograno, Kanela, Cochon, Lolita etc, etc,
It is hard to say that one thing is representative of the food culture here. I happen to love our variety of ethnic food.

Jose Garces Taking Over Speck?

Shola has his share of fans and with genius comes idiosyncrasy but I agree with the last quotation in the update section of this article.

Good Caribbean in Town?

I highly recommend the Caribbean food stand at the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. The owner is from Trinidad and the food is awesome. You can eat at the market or take it home.

One Night In Philly

I dont know what price point you are looking at, but my husband and I had a really nice meal at restaurant M this winter. If you get a warm night, they may be serving in their garden soon.
Meme is also excellent

Dinner near the Barnes Museum

I recommend Savona or Blackfish. Savona is more formal and has a full bar and good wine. Blackfish is a BYO, a little more casual and great food.
If you want to go into Center City there are a million more options.

Traditional sushi in Philadelphia

I agree with the majority, Fuji!!!!

Meme Review

Nice review. Meme is a great restaurant, the food is always excellent, perfectly executed and full of flavor.

Pre-show drinks and snacks around the Academy

Estia has a nice bar, good drinks and snacks. The restaurant itself is really nice, spacious, nicely decorated, open kitchen.

Any Suggestions for good Jook (Congee) in Chinatown?

Craig Laban likes the congee amongst other things at Ting Wong. He mentions it specifically in his review.

Gourmet Caramel in Philadelphia?

We just had a box of their dark chocolate caramel filled hearts and they are exquisite. The caramel is liquid and has the most unbelievably good flavor of burned sugar and butter.
They are quite expensive.

Madray's, then Barson's, then Hymie's Too, now Moe's...Lafayette Hill

We live within walking distance of this place and it has been horrible and filthy through three changes of ownership.
Locally we buy our lox and bagels in the same shopping center at the Market at Lafayette Hill. The only problem is that they will often precut the lox because most of the staff in the deli area dont know how to do it. They have good nova, kippered salmon, whitefish salad. The bagels are ok. The main thing is that it is clean.
Given the time we head to Pumpernick's in Montgomeryville

Alice Bakery and Confectionary at 129 South Main Street in North Wales

Thanks for posting this! I'm going to have to check it out. The sticky buns made to order sound really good.
Do the people of North Wales really need to be told by the writer of this article that French baguettes are elongated pieces of bread with five slits? Just how provincial are we out in the far reaches of the northwestern burbs?

M Restaurant at the Morris House Hotel

We had dinner there a few months ago. The food was excellent. It was beautifully presented and had intense flavor and it was playful. Everything was cooked perfectly. It reminded me very much of Thomas Keller's cooking. Memorable was a yellowtail sashimi that was full of interesting, fresh flavors. The room was a little boring but it will be a really nice place to dine when the weather gets warmer and you can eat in the garden.

Laban gives Radice 3 bells???

Thank you! Someone who doesnt hate this place! I loved their lasagne and gnocchi. The minestrone is also very good, as is the salad with shaved fennel.

Dinner Before Phantom's Game

I recommend South Philly Tap Room if you are going to an event at one of the stadiums on South Broad Street. It has great food, adventurous and nonadventurous. We have taken our kids there many times and they love it.
Are you really going to a Phantoms game? Arent they in Glenns Falls NY?

Special restaurant within 20 minutes of Blue Bell?

Savona in Gulph Mills would be an good choice. We have always enjoyed their food and service.

Pho Thai Nam

I hear you, this place would be convenient for me. We had an inedible meal there the only time we went.

Hey La hounds, help a philly gal out!!

This is why it helps to get advice from you natives. On the map it looks like I could just zip over to downtown LA from the airport and then head to the museum on the Santa Monica freeway. I'm sure there is lots of traffic going from here to there even not in rush hour.

Pho Thai Nam

I tried this place a few years ago and thought the food was subpar, both the vietnamese and thai food. So many of you have enjoyed the food, I may give it one more try.

Hey La hounds, help a philly gal out!!

Asenabo looks great, but I am wondering about timing of driving related to rush hour. If we have lunch away from the Museum, and then go to the museum we are likely to be leaving the museum in rush hour, so the suggestions for dinner in Santa Monica are probably the best.
I am thinking about lunch at Rivera straight from the airport, then on to the museum then dinner at Mori, hopefully omakase at the sushi bar as is recommended on the threads about this place. Or dinner at Kiriko. I do like cooked dishes as well as sushi, so that sounds really good, as does Asenabo for the same reason.
I do have to consider the lunch at the museum option as well to simplify things.
But I am a crazy foodie at heart so I may go for it as long as my mom holds up with the schedule.

Hey La hounds, help a philly gal out!!

I checked your weather, guys and 65-70 seems nice enough for a beach walk. 40 degrees would also be fine if the wind wasnt too bad.

Hey La hounds, help a philly gal out!!

Thanks. I am unsure about going to the Getty. The only day we have free is the one where we fly in. I am thinking about perhaps going for the great lunch and then go somewhere for a walk and then to the hotel. The Getty I have been told is an all day commitment.
A friend of mine recommended walking on the beach in Santa Monica. Maybe we will eat lunch and then head there. I understand that it takes a long time to get everywhere in LA, so maybe we should look for lunch in Santa Monica, but we will be on vacation and in no rush so I am thinking that as long as I am not going out of my way, we could go for lunch somewhere else and then head for a walk.

My upcoming restaurant pics for my LA trip

I'm looking for a memorable lunch with my mom for an upcoming trip to LA. I checked out exilekiss's review of Rivera and that may be the place I will choose. The food and cocktails look amazing and the space is hip and "of the minute" but it looks beautiful.

Hey La hounds, help a philly gal out!!

I am traveling to LA with my mother for a very brief stay to attend a family event. We will have a Friday free to have some fun. We should arrive at LAX at 1030 am on Friday. I am thinking that we could go have lunch somewhere good to great and then have an adventure, maybe visiting the Getty art museum or maybe going to the beach or taking a walk somewhere interesting. I have been to LA only once and it was about 30 years ago.
One thought I had was a sushi lunch after leaving the airport. I saw some good things said about Mori and if I am not too directionally challenged it looks like we could go to Mori and then go on to the Getty or to the beach after that before we go to our hotel in Burbank.
I would love some suggestions for lunch and any practical advice that you folks have to offer. I am not set on sushi, but I have heard that LA is a sushi mecca. I would definitely consider other cuisines for lunch. We may also be looking for a dinner spot for Friday and probably Saturday am coffee light breakfast.

Tn'T Pies, Anyone Know Where Available?

I think I saw them at Pete's deli in Conshohocken. Call first because I am not absolutely sure.

What's your opinion on Philly's best all around coffee shop?

Hands down it is Ultimo.

Can we talk about Wawa?

I dont like wawa hoagies very much. They use poor qualtiy rolls and meat and cheese. I do like the roast beef ciabatta with horseradish mayo. The roll is always great which helps make it a good sandwich.
