Paris restaurants for June trip
We are a New York City family with two older teenagers heading to Paris in mid-June. Three of us are adventurous foodies, but our daughter has a more limited palate (no fish/seafood, no pork, lamb, charcuterie, organ meats, pate, escargots, etc etc). I'm looking for recommendations for restaurants that have a wider menu selection than the typical bistro, and where they would be willing to adapt dishes or make substitutions with ease. Otherwise I think she'll be stuck with steak frites every night. Meanwhile, the rest of us want to enjoy at least some of what Paris dining is known for! Budget is not a problem, but we prefer a relaxed ambiance (no jacket requirements for the guys, no 3-hour extravaganzas after a long day of touring). Ideas?
Santa Fe trip report
Just back from a long weekend in Santa Fe. We had four dinners: the first night at the restaurant of our hotel, the Inn of the Anasazi; Casa Sena; Geronimo; and the on-site buffet dinner at the Opera. The best food was at Geronimo. The best setting was the lovely outdoor courtyard of Casa Sena.
We had a nice lunch on our first afternoon at the upstairs (rooftop) cantina of Coyote Cafe. It was nicely shaded and casual, with good food and friendly service. The chips brought with the guac and salsa were outstanding. Another good lunch was at the Anasazi hotel restaurant, where two of us raved over buffalo burgers. When it's hot outside, the spacious and cool atmosphere of the indoor part of this restaurant is a good choice. Tried to get into the Shed but the wait was one hour!
Two mornings, we had amazing breakfasts at Pasquals. We ate around 8:30am and did not have much of a wait. Lots to choose from, nice friendly service and atmosphere. Homemade bread for toast was great. Breakfast was so filling that one of the days we couldn't eat lunch! We covered a variety of choices (four people, two visits) and it was all delicious.
The other two mornings we ate at the hotel (Anasazi) restaurant so that we could sit outside and enjoy the perfect early morning weather before the heat kicked in. They make a fabulous granola and we also liked the breakfast burrito and the blue corn pancakes.
I wish we had time to get to a few other places. We'll just have to go back again sometime...
Santa Fe: blue corn pancakes
A friend had the blue corn pancakes for breakfast this weekend at the Inn of the Anasazi restaurant. I had a taste and they were excellent. Served with blueberries and real maple syrup.
Santa Fe in July
thanks to everyone for the suggestions -- we are really looking forward to the trip! I will try to post a trip report after our visit.
Santa Fe in July
We are two couples from New York City traveling to Santa Fe for a long weekend in July and looking for restaurant suggestions. We're staying at the Inn of the Anasazi and plan to eat at their restaurant on our first night, so we need ideas for three additional dinners. Prefer to eat local-style Southwestern/New Mexican food. Looking for nice, comfortable dining atmosphere where we can converse easily and not feel rushed. Price not an issue. I've read the Santa Fe threads on this board, but some of the posts go back more than 6 months or a year. Updated suggestions welcome!
Dining in Barcelona with teenagers
We're heading to Barcelona later this month with our two teenage kids. Our well-traveled, NYC-based foodie family is looking forward to the tapas experience and to exploring the Barcelona dining scene. I'd love some suggestions for lunch, tapas and dinner. We want to eat the local cuisine -- not Asian or Italian -- and prefer places that are not formal/stuffy and not overly touristy. All price levels will be considered -- it's more important to get quality food in a fun, interesting environment, with lots of variety (one of the kids does not eat any fish, shellfish or pork, so we need to eat at places with good vegetarian options, as well as beef or poultry). Friends have suggested sticking with tapas places and not waiting until 10pm to sit down with the kids over a long dinner. Thoughts on this approach?
I'm also interested in recommendations for good ice cream, chocolates or pastries, and other food-related experiences, such as a cooking class, market tour, gourmet food shop, that would add to our visit.
All advice much appreciated!
