Helena Wirth cakes in Van Nuys

So sad to hear this-I was her decorator for about 8 years, until about a year and a half before she sold. Helena was the most amazing woman and friend. Is, actually. And she would be very sad to hear this news. I would have told you to try Layers, but that has been sold too (a victim of its' own success-the owner had no time to spend with her family). I do not know where to send you in the valley anymore.

Ethnic Asian Food in Thousand Oaks

My family loves Mandarin Express in Agoura Hills for Chinese food (on Kanan and Agoura Road ,behind IHOP). Here is their link: http://www.mandarinexpressagourahills.com/
A small operation, does tons of take-out to Malibu, but does have a smallish eat-in area too. Kim is the nicest hostess, and Chef Chang is wonderful. They also have a huge vegetarian selection, with every fake meat on earth available, for those so inclined.
Lots of photos of stars on the walls, who do actually order from there (if that helps convince anyone). I am not the expert on authentic Chinese cuisine, but we have always been very happy there!

Westlake Village area -- for a great dinner?

(While neither of these places are in Westlake, they are worth your 10 minute drive.)
I have 2 places that aren't fancy or pricey, but serve exceptional food-the first is Mandarin Express.located in the same mall as the IHOP in Agoura Hills- http://www.mandarinexpressagourahills.com/ Their walls are plastered with local celebrities photos, for good reason-they are clients coming up from the Malibu area. They also have an extensive vegetarian selection.
The 2nd is Santa Fe Cafe,at the end of Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas.I am not a vegetarian, but always order the black bean tacos anyways-they are a family favorite and have been for the 15 years we have lived here.
