Savannah chowhounds--send me to your faves
Good choices! B. Matthew's is one of my favorite spots and has a nice atmosphere. If you want another brunch/lunch option try Firefly Cafe on Habersham St. or Express Cafe and Bakery on Barnard St. Lulu's Chocolate Martini Bar on MLK is also a great place for drinks, especially if you like desserts and martinis. Vic's on the River is my favorite restaurant/bar. If you want a great view of the Savannah River and downtown, it's the place to be at night and has delicious food.
Cookbooks on Pumpkins and Food for Fall
I love the name of the book... Very creative!
Cookbooks on Pumpkins and Food for Fall
Ooh, that sounds great! I'll have to check it out. Thanks! :)
Cookbooks on Pumpkins and Food for Fall
It always happens around this time of year (and especially into October) that I really begin to crave pumpkins and other types of fall-time foods. I found a really great cookbook, "A Harvest of Pumpkins and Squash" by Lou Seibert Pappas, and I want to cook EVERY recipe in it because they all look so delicious!! I can't say that about a lot of cookbooks I own. What are some other cookbooks you know of that are related to cooking in the fall, pumpkins, squash, Halloween recipes, etc.? Thanks!!
Savannah and Tybee Island Recs - all types of food
You're in for a great treat if you're coming to Savannah around Halloween. I suggest you take full advantage of the city's "haunted" history and go on a few of the haunted tours, while you're here. As far as a place to eat, there are so many choices, it just really depends on your personal likes and dislikes... If it's southern fare you're wanting, Mrs. Wilkes is definitely a great place to start. If you're looking for something touristy, fun and would go right along with your visit being near Halloween, try the Pirate's House on Broad Street. For a classy but not too pricy dinner with great views of the Savannah River and River Street, go to Vic's on the River. They have wonderful atmosphere and great southern-inspired dishes. Also, for some southern food that the locals enjoy, get off the beaten path of downtown, and try Geneva Geneva's on 2812 Bee Road (right off Victory Drive, in midtown Savannah). They have the best fried chicken!!
Chow in Arkansas
Hi funkkjunkie! I'm originally from Conway, but I haven't lived there in years. I wasn't familiar with a few of the places you listed - Due Amiche and Holly's Country Cooking... Where are they located? One place in downtown Conway that I absolutely loved when I lived there was Something Brewing. It has a wonderful atmosphere with great food and coffee!
Good food in Atlanta
Hands down, no competition - Mary Mac's Tea Room on Ponce De Leon. Yummo!! :) It's mouth-watering southern deliciousness.
Hilton Head - Fresh seafood market
Thanks a lot!! I'll have to check out the GA State Farmers market ... is that on the same road as Victory? I love getting local produce, so it sounds like it will be perfect. Yes, the Back in the Day Bakery sounds great, too! I am looking forward to exploring the culinary finds in this great town!! :)
Hilton Head - Fresh seafood market
Divamon, you seem to know the area pretty well. My husband and I just moved to Savannah. Do you know of any fresh seafood markets around town? I thought I saw one on Thunderbolt but wasn't sure if it was operational. Also, do you have any tips on local (non-chain) bakeries? Thanks so much!!
Chow in Arkansas
That's great! I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Eureka Springs. I'm from Arkansas originally, and Eureka definitely has some great food finds... My husband and I went there on our anniversary one year and ate at The Crystal Dining Room at the historic Crescent Hotel and Spa. The restaurant is full of this amazing, Old South atmosphere with a big open dining area that looks like it used to function as a ballroom at one time. It's lovely there, and the food is even more wonderful than the surroundings.
Solo Dining in Little Rock?
Great! I hope it works out for you! Near the River Market district, there's a place called Iriana's Pizza. It's a smaller space, but it has the most delicious pizza. (103 W Markham St. - (501) 374-3656). Enjoy!
Solo Dining in Little Rock?
I grew up in Central Arkansas, so I know Little Rock quite well. You definitely need to check out a few of these places while you're in town, if you get a chance: The Purple Cow (11602 Chenal Pkwy, Little Rock - (501) 224-4433). It's not fancy, but it's one of my absolute favorite places. It's a casual diner with a bar as well as a full restaurant. Order the purple cow milkshake. It's to die for and will make you feel like a kid again. :) Also, if you like Mexican, check out Juanita's (1300 S. Main - (501) 372-1228). You say you like BBQ - check out Corky's (12005 Westhaven Drive - (501) 954-7427). I hope this helps! Enjoy your self, and if you get a chance during the day, go to the River Market in downtown Little Rock. It's a fun foodie place, too.
