Aged meat in Staten Island
I do not believe that there is one. The retail food options in SI are poor. For example, you can't get shad roe here. Red Hook Fair Way is where I get mine.
Any Asian markets on Staten Island?
The one you mention is the only one. Their prepared food is also OK but they certainly are inaccessible. With a car, its easier for us to pop over the bridge to Brooklyn.
Fei Long Food Court, Sunset Park
Went to the food court today--had congee from Shall We Eat and dumplings from Shanghai Family Dumpling, both quite good. The congee was thinner than most but excellent. Eating there is like eating in an outdoor cafe since there are always people coming and going. Three of the stalls were empty but the place looks clean and busy. I was very intrigued by the hot pot but didn't have one.

Polish Place in Tompkinsville, SI
Nice to have some recognition for Staten Island restaurants.
Polish Place in Tompkinsville, SI
The staff is all absolutely charming also. Polish restaurants come and go on Staten Island but this one has come and stayed....
Schnitzel on Staten Island
You should be able to get a more than adequate vegetarian meal there.
Schnitzel on Staten Island
This schnitzel joint in a fairly ordinary little strip mall right off of Richmond Avenue serves an excellent version of the Israeli schnitzel sandwich. The bread is a little less crusty than it is in the Brooklyn places that serve the dish, but the sauces and fillers--pickles, lettuce etc, are good and the chicken cutlet is greaseless and pounded just right.
This is a very very busy place with minimal decor but if you like this dish that is a fad in Israel you will not be disappointed.

Schaffer's is terrific although their pastrami appears to be mass-produced and kind of stale. But otherwise it is excellent..
Where to buy coriander, fenugreek, cumin and black mustard seeds for grinding into a curry mix?
I'm also a fan of Penzy's, which has a store in Grand Central but is also mail order. Whatever you do, buy in small quantities, since the stuff can go stale within a year. When I buy from Penzy's, I usually order the smallest amount possible in a bag, and use my own jars for storage. And look for a vendor who does a lot of business--that means there is high turnover of the spices--and who preferably keeps the spices in a closed container to preserve freshness. Finally, you are better off grinding--and roasting if applicable--your own. Ground spices go stale much more quickly than whole.
Cafe Shinok in SI?
I was there some time ago and the food was simply OK and overpriced. I would not recommend it.
Cast Iron - Brown crusty circles left from cooking burgers
A metal spatula works well also.
Does Any NYC Chinese Rival Shiao Lan Kung/Lee How Fook in Philly
Wew just got back from a weekend in Philadelphia where we happily stumbled on Shiao Lan Kung and its extraordinary rendition of even the most simple dishes. It really stands out in the combined almost a century of Chinese restaurant going between the two of us.
Dinner on Staten Island
Its the open until Midnight requirement that I find difficult to satisfy.
Dinner on Staten Island
No not frowned on at all. I had intended to refer you to a prior thread and then I realized that you were the initiator of that thread so I thought maybe there was a date glitch or somesuch.

Killmeyers used to have a great chef five or six years ago but he left and the place is not to good any more. They have tons of kinds of beer however, although in my opinion foreign beers don't travel that well--they get stale--so stick with the American beers. Nurnberger Bierhaus is quite good, better than Schnitzle Haus, which was OK but the food lacked flair--it seemed flat.

Wine Cellar Restaurant near Altoona
Three of us New York City chowhounds were in Gallitzin PA recently doing a rail tourist tour--the Horseshoe Curve etc--and ate dinner at the Wine Cellar Restaurant in Gallitzin--where the tunnels are-- and had an extremely good meal there. It calls itself an Italian restaurant but it is really a lot more. The pasta is made there and the bread served with the meal was nicely toasted with garlic and rosemary. I had the light gnocchi with two meatballs, and the potatoe soup. The chef/owner takes careful pains with every aspect of the presentation, including the food.
Driving NYC to State College on I 80
I usually stop earlier--at an Indian restaurant in Tannersville. Take exit 299, go left up the hill, and then take a right. They have a good buffet.
Ledge Rock Farm Beef at the Staten Island St George Green Market
Organic beef tends to be lean--its better for hamburgers than for steak.
Grimaldi's may get evicted
Agreed. The pizza was not that good. But when the place first opened, it was terrific.
Desperately seeking good smoked fish...

You make a good point there, Tay. But it did fall a long way in the restaurant universe.
U & Me Cafe
Had a nice meal there the other night--beef with bitter melon, an XO sauce fish casserole, fish balls, and a tempura with mayonnaise--a cuisine like the two XO restaurants in Manhattan's Chinatown. This is a little restaurant--called a "cafe" in the Chinese restaurant parlance as opposed to a "palace"-- on 62 and 8th Ave in Brooklyn, just at the BMT bridge. Sprightly decor with a fairly bright yellow high gloss paint scheme, and oddly, an abstract picture of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. (I doubt Truman Capote ever made it down to that neighborhood.) Oddly, chopstick use seems rare in the place. All in all, a place to return to. Cheap too--all the above was just a sliver over $20.00.

Convivium Osteria--Menu Favorites
I always order the rack of lamb and the cauliflower, two of my favorite foods.
I hate the new release
That seems like a viable way to cut the horrible glare--using the cardboard. Otherwise my eyes start to get tired. I always change my backgrounds in word processing programs etc to a light blue to eliminate the glare.
RELEASE COMING!
Yes very very unpleasant and harsh. It never fails to amaze me how these web site operators can make changes that they think are good without the slightest notion of what it looks like to the average person.
So where's the good pho? Seriously?
Actually Staten Island has good pho at Pho Mac. But you need a care, although it is near the highway. The broth is very delicate.

Al Di La... Overrated?
I was similarly underwhelmed. If I'm going to Park Slope for a really good meal I go to Convivium Osterium.
