Where to find reasonably priced chickens or parts? Thanks for the replies! I am in the west end, but willing to travel. I will check out these options! |

Where to find reasonably priced chickens or parts? I am tired of going to anywhere from Loblaws to FreshCo to No Frills etc. to find chicken breasts at $20 for 3-4 scrawny breasts! $5 per protien per meal and no veggies, fruit or starches? Who can afford this! Is there an independent butcher or reliable source for reasonably priced chicken? Whole chickens at $6.00 per bird look reasonable until you realize that will not feed your family of 4. While I would love free range/organic, it is not in my weekly budget. I know what I want is available, but it means waiting for specials and hoping they don't run out. But we eat a lot of chicken! Any suggestions gratefully appreciated! Diane |

Looking for fine dining in Durham / Grey County oh, and while the decor is as far from fancy as you can get, Ted's Range Road Diner in Meaford serves up some amazing food! |

Looking for fine dining in Durham / Grey County Depends on your definition. Eigensinn Farm in Singhampton is obvious, BVSC has a wonderful chef (believe it is only friday and saturday nights and only in winter), Munshaw's Bistro in Flesherton can be lovely, great Indian food at Knights Inn (not 'fine' dining but great food), Sisi's in Thornbury, have heard good things about Peasemarsh Farms in Flesherton (not sure if it is dine in tho), The Mill Cafe in Thornbury is reputed to be good... There are options for a lovely meal. I have no idea what you would find in Owen Sound. You can also try Collingwood of course. |

The Junction and surrounding areas -- Recommend Me Anything a whole pie is $ 25? hmmm, flour, water, butter or lard for pastry (i'll be generous and say 75 cents value), organic fruit? for one pie? $6-10 (again quite generous as they should get much better deals wholesale)..Sugar, perhaps cream or sour cream, spices... cost of gas/electricity for stove? employee wages and overhead? Well ok if they are selling 5-10 pies per day. Otherwise, that is a pricey pie! |

Dating (and dining with!) a less adventurous eater having been married to your SO's twin for 19 years, I sympathise! I agree that Japanese is usually safe, steak houses and the like of course, french, italian, some asian, some indian, most bistros, and many of the mainstays in Toronto (North 44, Scaramouche, etc. which are more $$, and perhaps not as adventurous, but generally good food). If in doubt, scan the menu if possible in advance (online, walking by a window etc) and see if there is a 'safe' option (I can pick out my husband's choice before he walks in the door). Greek has been iffy for me, but kudos to those who have had success! Spanish/portuguese are possibilities as well (there is a great portuguese restaurant, Adega, on Elm that has lots of meat as well as fish options (something else hub wont eat). Pub options have not fared well for us (is that natchos and beer pub or steak and kidney pie pub?). We both would like to try Eigensenn's Farm and Ortelon, among others, but it is silly to fork out money for food that only one of you will eat. I just need a spy for the daily menu at Ortelon so that we can go when there is an acceptable option for him available. Statlander is unlikely to email me advance menus so that I can pick and choose. Good luck! It can be done! |

BBQ cleaning service in the GTA? Good Review: we used bbqguys. They did a competent job initially but did not fix identified problems (burner not functioning) altho alerted by us. When we expressed concern, all additional repairs required were completed asap. Not only that, they discovered recalls on both the upper and lower buckets (?) saving us a bundle! I think they may hurt from seasonal help, but they will fix any inadequacies immediately and with a smile They do have pride in workmanship and I would not hesitate to retain them. Diane |

Where to find less common/unusual greens in the GTA? I have looked in Asian markets and they do have a much wider variety but they concentrate, not surprisingly, on asian greens! I am just looking for variety but perhaps I am too early in the growing season. |

Where to find less common/unusual greens in the GTA? I am looking to try new greens, both salad greens and moe hearty ones which are often cooked/wilted sauteed etc. Where are some good places to purchase some of the less common options? For example, I recently read about miner's lettuce, which I gather grows like a weed out west but I have never seen it growing or for sale in GTA grocers, produce shops or farmers' markets. Hope someone has some good ideas for me! Thanks! |

Foods that unreasonably gross you out... THANK YOU! The look, the smell (gah), the texture and the taste! The most disgusting thing I've ever encountered. |

Snug Harbour? Not fancy but generally reliable. ----- |

Le Creuset at Home Sense & Winners Kagemusha, I have purchased several Le Crueset items from the Winners at Dundas and Winston Churchill. It is hit and miss as to whether they have any in stock, but it does travel as far as Mississauga! |

Best restaurant in Mississauga Sorry to hear that about Michaels. I confess I have not been there recently, but it still appears as crowded as ever. |
|

Best restaurant in Mississauga Michael's Back Door on Lakeshore has always been lovely, and we have enjoyed some great meals at Piatta on Dundas (near Mississauga Road). Both are italian. Via Allegro is technically Etobicoke but very close to Mississauga and I love the food there although I know some on ths board don's share my enthusiasm. Rogues is lovely too. Let us know what you select and give a review! |

Thanks FoodyDudey! I had looked at OBG and they are much higher in price. Dicksons is as well I have been told. That's not a bad price, even without the shelves. |

Where is the best place to buy cheese in Mississauga? Thanks guys. I will check out the Cheese Outlet and the Etobicoke Costco. And, I will ask the proprietor of Goat as well. Did not consider Longos or Highland Farms and will give them a look. Finica is the wholesale distributor (I checked, believe me!). |

Where is the best place to buy cheese in Mississauga? Thanks for the replies so far. I have been to Goat, but did not find what I am looking for. I am particularly interested in aged Gouda right now (Beemster XO if possible) which is not easy to locate. I have looked around and found very few options! |

Where is the best place to buy cheese in Mississauga? Help me! I am looking for a good cheese shop in Mississauga or west Toronto or even Oakville. I am familiar with the Cheese Boutique and it certainly has many fine items for sale, but was hoping for something a little closer to home? Any recommendations gratefully accepted. |

Thanks for the suggestions- Trip with kids was a blast! Thank you for all of your suggestions. Our impromptu trip to New York with our kids was great. We ended up trying John's pizza for lunch one day (very nice), and loved our trek through the Lower East Side. On the dinner front, we were hampered by very tired kids who had been walking all over Manhatten and were not up to much more by dinner. The first night we ended up at Pigalle because it was close to the hotel and the menu looked decent. It was quite a respectable, if not memorable dinner. The second night my husband wanted something more upscale, and we ended up at Adour. The food was outstanding (the fois gras terrine wonderful, and the duck was delicious). My son, the 10 year old, loved the room and raved about his tenderloin (yes, even as a picky eater, he can tell the diference between a cheap steak and something worthwhile). My daugher enjoyed pasta with lobster made specially for her because nothing on the menu appealed to her. Desserts were lovely, but not spectacular (but I am not a big dessert person so this did not in any way spoil the evening). The service was very attentive and special care was taken to ensure that the kids enjoyed their meal, which was particularly gratifying given that this is most certainly a more adult environment. The waiter recommeded a new grape juice for my son made from wine grapes from Nappa Valley which he quite enjoyed! All in all, a wonderful weekend in your wonderful city! thanks again for all of your input! Much appreciated. |

help! impromptu trip to NYC with kids! Thanks everyone- these are great suggestions! Thai, sushi (yum), Ethiopian, it all sounds great and I will look at all of your suggestions. East Village sounds like fun (will pay attention to Stanton Social). Paige, my daughter is 13 going on 20 so I think I missed the boat on Alice's Teacup, but it does sound lovely. Peanut Butter & Co. sounds perfect for my picky son! Will report back on our adventures! |

help! impromptu trip to NYC with kids! we decided on a three day weekend trip with kids (10 and 13 and one is adventurous of sorts, and one not so much) we are staying in midtown (crowne plaza) but will travel to interesting food (not too pricey) . We would love some innovation but will also welcome good pizza for the staid one. any suggestions in the area or surrounding areas would be welcome (don't want mediocre food just because its close)! Thanks in advance and sorry for the lack of capitals-not my computer! |

Looking for good sushi in Mississauga Thanks for the suggestions! I don't live far from Lorne Park (and I think I know the plaza you are describing) so I will have to give it a try! I will try Kumai as well, but it is not very close. Thanks, |
