DTW - Taqueria Guadalajara - New in Waterford

DL - Please try the chorizo. I wanna know if i am out in left field here.
I wouldn't judge a Mexican place on what you ate though,

DTW - Taqueria Guadalajara - New in Waterford

I was heading home from DTW yesterday afternoon, and decided to make a stop for lunch.
My plan was to hit Taq Guad for lunch, and get takeout from Thai Taste for dinner later.
Alas, TT was closed, so that will have to wait for another day.
I've attached pics of the storefronts for both TaqGuad and Thai Taste.

I got in and reviewed the menu. This place is fairly clean as far as low rent taquerias go.
Tacos were on special at $1.25 - think this is every weekday during lunch hours.
I ordered my 3 tacks (pastor, chorizo, carne asada) and received chips with three sauces - an avocado, a medium spicy salsa, and a spicy salsa.
I only tried the medium spicy salsa, as it had a it of a kick to it, not a lot, but enough for me.
The tacos were all very tasty. The chorizo is the best I've had in the area.
This is my new favorite taco place, but I will be trying some other menu items as well.
Pics of menu, tacos, and sauces are attached.

No kidding on Lindo. The worst.

I'll give it a shot next week. Can't be worse then Mexico Lindo.
I wanna try Thai Taste also.

Healthy Food in Flint?

There is a local franchise in the area (several locations) called Ya-Ya's Chicken.
They grill marinated chickens. You can eat healthy there, though there are an assortment of unhealthy sides as well.
They make a caesar salad with grilled breasts.
You can also get a salad with chopped chicken meat (basically the leftovers from what they don't sell as meals), with healthy or unhealthy dressing options.

high-end Mexican in El Paso?

I flew in to ELP last night, and headed staright to Burritos Cristósomo. I picked this over Valentine's because it seemed like I could get in and out quicker, and i was pretty tired.
I had the pork in red sauce, barbacoa, and steak. All were excellent. I was very full!
Hoping to try some of these other recommendations before I head back to Detroit (but I'll be wit work colleagues, so it might not be possible).

Spring peas and ramps in SE MI {DTW}

Don't know what a style resto means, but the Root in White Lake just had a spring dinner that featured ramps, fiddleheads, morels, etc.

Union Woodshop Clarkston MI

The other thing you can do on the weekend is get there at 4PM.
By 4:30 the waits are in full force.

Union Woodshop Clarkston MI

I agree that the Woodshop waits are out of control. 2 hrs. is not bad, friends have waited 3 hrs plus.

I usually go on Mon-Wed, and it doesn't seem that crowded.
I always eat at one of the bars, so I can't really say for sure there is no wait, but it doesn't seem like people are waiting long on these off-nights.
But if you only want the food, call in an order and take it home. I do that a LOT! I live 10 minutes away, and the food is usually ready when I get there.

A ramp (wild leek) trip!

If you haven't left Bradford yet, be sure to stop by the Zippo plant.
You will also be very close to Elk country ,and should be able to see Elk (if that is of interest to you).
There is a really great restaurant not that far from Bradford ,also a B&B I think, but the name escapes me.

CSAs near Rochester MI ? [dtw]

I'll gladly take your beets.
Sorry, I don't have a rec. The place I used was not that good (except for the eggs), and probably not even in business anymore, so I'm just going to hit Saturday markets and buy what I want this year.
Maple Creek seems like a solid place though.

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

Mr. Baratta is freeakin enthusiastic, isn't he?
Better yet is the lovely Mehgan in the front office ;)
I picked up 2 ribeyes and 2 NYs a couple weekends ago, they were fantastic,
Also, got the burger mix, which was really great. Just be careful grilling, as the fat content is off the charts (I had major flare ups)

I expect they will have some deals this month, as they were planning some huge orders for Wings playoff games, and we all know what happened there ....

Troy-- A great place for all things Indian [DTW]

I don't understand .... this is a guy you call and pick up food from his apartment?
Or is this a restaurant? Can you eat in the apartment?

DTW - Crispelli's, Berkley

I'm convinced that Molly Abraham gets half her ideas from 'hounds ...

Alternative to Caul Fat

That, looks pretty F'n amazing JP!

heading to Detroit

the Lark in West Bloomfield (www.thelark.com/) would not be that far, and would be really great for a 30th anniversary - very small, quiet, romantic, great ambiance.
It is pricy, but a great experience nonetheless. OK I haven't been in a while and I just checked the website - prices are quite a bit higher then I remember (.e.g. the signature Rack of Lamb is $88 for 3 bone, $96 for 4 bone - I remember paying $60-65 ,and if you were not satisfied with your serving they would bring you more at no additional charge).
I like DJ Brady's as well. It can be a little noisy there.

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

Yes at Eastern Market, and it is early.

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

Very funny - I'm the opposite of country club set, but I do love prime beef.
The prime was

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

I was able to make it to the Eastern Market Saturday morning, and picked up some steaks from Fairway Packing.
Emmet gave me a tour of the new dry aging room. It was quite impressive, and they have several restaurants aging beef in there.
I picked up a 28 day dry aged NY strip, and a 14 day dry aged ribeye.

On Saturday night I cooked the ribeye. Well I slightly overcooked it, but it was still a very nice steak. Very impressive beefy flavor.
On Sunday, I cooked the NY strip. Better execution on my cooking, but I preferred the stronger beefy flavor of the ribeye.

I plan to buy from Fairway on a regular basis (including a whole ribeye that Emmet will age for me for a golf outing in June - cool feature is he will email pictures weekly of the beef as it ages), as the price is simple unbeatable.
I will say that I still prefer the dry aged beef from Bryan Flannery (ordering on the phone, 2 day air shipping) - it is more marbled and a better texture then the Fairway, in my opinion. But I know some people would surely prefer the Fairway product, and it is much much more economical then Flannery. And I will eat Fairway more often do to the cost.

Here are some pictures (which also show the fresh MI asparagus I picked up).

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

I will definitely be checking out Fairway Packing. Sounds and looks impressive.
I'm glad you posted here, otherwise I would never have known you existed.
I'm really excited to try your beef! And the pork as well.
Do you have veal bones for stock?

Quality Dry Aged Beef in metro Detroit??!!??

I'm all about supporting the locals, but do yourself a favor and order your dry aged beef from Bryan Flannery (http://www.bryansfinefoods.com/). Do yourself an even bigger favor and call, making sure you talk to Bryan. He can talk beef, and I mean the best beef in America.
I've had quite a few of his offerings, and nothing I've eaten anywhere comes close.

One Eyed Betty's Ferndale (DTW)

I agree about the Bastone fries!

One Eyed Betty's Ferndale (DTW)

Kids can be expensive dates. But they generally do not run up huge bar tabs.

Detroit long-weekend

You hit some really nice spots. Looking forward to update on Vicente's and Good Girls!
I'm sorta surprised but not really that the bartender did not know wha ta Sidecar was. Really, even if they didn't know how to make it, I would think anyone would have known that the Sidecar is drink, and would figure out how to make it. I can do it in about 5 seconds on my phone for crying out loud ...

DTW - where to get deep fried pickles

The Woodshop in Clarkston also has them.

Okay Detroiters: Define "Great Tuna Salad Sandwich" [moved from Great Lakes]

Your's sounds perfect to me, but I'l ladd the following:
1. Toast the bread
2. Ground Pepper on the tuna salad before the lettuce is placed on top

I've had my share of crappy tuna salads i nthe area, nothing worse then the nasty runny crap, which is the case more often then not.

Fried Bologna sandwiches in metro Detroit

the Root in White Lake (M59 west of Teggerdine) has Yale Fried Bologna sandwiches on their menu.
It is sliced thick. I had it once, and well, it was fried bologna.

Frida Mexican Cuisine- W. Dearborn (DTW)

Oh how I miss Annam....

Sounds like this place has promise - the poblano soup sounds like something I'd drive to Dearborn for.

Carnival (Mexican) Market’s food counter in Pontiac, MI

Just wanted to add, Carnival seems to have a $6 for $3 GroupOn Now daily

Carnival (Mexican) Market’s food counter in Pontiac, MI

Decided to check this place out today.

Had 3 tacos (beef fajita ,chicken, and carnita). $1.49 each. Chips and guac another $1.49.

The tacos are on par with my recent review of La Mexicana 3, which is just about a mile away.

I preferred the carnita, then beef fajita (was a bit grisly but I'm ok with that), then chicken.

The guac was nothing to write home about, but it was good, I'm just used to what I make ,and rarely eat guac in a restaurant. In order to get chips though, you need to order chips and guac, though maybe you can just order the chips - did not see on menu or ask.

The salsa bar is interesting, with 6-8 offerings, self serve.

I will definitely be going back for barbacoa and tamales.

I've attached some pictures of the counter, tacos (as served with onion and cilantro, plus some pico from the salsa bar), and guacomole.
