Best Burger in the Davie/Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale Area
I used to really like Le Tub, but in the last few years I've found its not worth the drive and I no longer like it as much as Char Hut or even Five Guys. The only still great thing is the view these days, but that must be what you're paying for in terms of price and service.
Ft. Lauderdale--Cafe Sharaku, a real gem
I agree with the reviewers. I went here to celebrate a birthday last month and forgot to write a followup, but had an excellent meal at a bargain price. Even their wines are reasonably priced although they have a slim selection. They also had a few sakes although I did not try any on that trip. The tuna sashimi was terrific, as was the duck breast. I also had an interesting Jasmine flan with Green Tea Ice Cream, which I really enjoyed. Worth trying out for anybody interested in Japanese fusion cuisine at a very reasonable price.
Best Sicilian Pizza in Dade/Broward County?
Steve's Pizza in North Miami sometimes makes it by the slice, but is fairly rare. They do make a whole pie on order, and it was pretty good the last time I had it a few years back.
North Miami Rumblings...
The one on the corner of 19th Ave is City BBQ Place, which a friend told me wasn't as good as Bulldog, so I haven't gone to verify.
The one on 6th Ave is called Bar-B-Q Trails, and is merged in with Vito's Italian. I haven't worked up the nerve to try either yet since those types of mergers tend to be disappointing.
Miami: Which Chinese restaurants are good on NE 163rd St?
Hong Kong Noodles is my current favorite Chinese place on 163rd, they have fairly good DimSum items available all day, just ask for their paper menu for the full selection. Their leek dumplings are what keep me coming back when I get a craving.
Upscale Cuban in North Miami to Ft. Lauderdale?
About the only place around there that would qualify is Little Havana on Biscayne and 127th, which has better food, service and decor than Versailles IMHO. They have very good lunch specials as well, making it popular amongst local office employees.
El palacio de los jugos just opened up about a block north on Biscayne, which is your standard cuban cafeteria-style setup with some good juices.
Authentic Mexican in Miami
I'd say Orale is an authentic taco stand, like the ones you see in Mexico, but they only do tacos just as most taco stands do. The tacos are "authentic Mexican" (very similar to ones you would get in Mexico City or Guadalajara) at roadside stand.
For a regular restaurant I'd say Mi Rinconcito Mexicano does a great job on most of the dishes I've tried, and so does El Chapultepec to a lesser degree. The tacos at Mi Rinconcito are almost as good as from Orale, and Mi Rinconcito adds more traditional dishes on the weekends like pozole and menudo.
For Yucatan style, Cheen Huayee is your best choice. Burrito Brothers which is nearby on Biscayne and NE 120th is also good and has some yucatan style and other mexican items which are tasty. These two are both slightly pricier and have smaller portions than those in South Miami, but lean more towards less greasy/fried preparations of dishes(although I personally like the street-style food better most of the time)
Grass fed beef from Al Rosas farm- opinions?
I've also purchased the Gaucho meats from Vagabond Market, but you should also be able to find some of their cuts for sale at La Estancia Argentina in Aventura. I saw them in the case while perusing their offerings a few weeks ago during lunch.
BBQ in Ft. Lauderdale
The Georgia Pig seems to specialize in both ribs and pork sandwiches. I was just there last week, and ate some good smoked ( and meaty) spare ribs. They were a tad on the dry side, but I did like their bbq sauce(slight tang, nowhere near as sweet as the molasses served at Tom Jenkins), along with the cole slaw(also not too sweet or mayo-heavy, so went well with the bbq).
gourmet diner
I decided to take my parents there for a quick brunch today, and am glad they're still still around as its been about 8 years since I've stopped by. Huge buttermilk pancake were tasty (and had a hint of cornmeal?), and the eggs benedict were still pretty good, as were the home fries. The coffee wasn't too bad either, and prices are still reasonable, especially since IHOP and Denny's have steadily risen their prices over the past decade to almost the same level($6-10 for breakfasts).
North Miami Rumblings...
If anybody is craving a good Falafel sandwich, I've been going to Grill Time on 163rd and Biscayne lately, and they have a great version for $5(even at dinner time, although they tend to only serve this at the bar during dinner since its not on the menu.) Really a great deal, and the owners are super nice. I've heard good things about their grill items, but the rest of their menu is a bit pricey due to the Kosher nature.
Indian food in Miami?
I liked India House in Plantation, as it has a very good buffet on the weekends(haven't been on a weekday.) On Sundays they improve their selection somewhat with more dishes, although both days has a reasonable selection of vegetarian and meat-based dishes, including a nice Chaat(sp?) bar. If anyone knows of any better or equivalent buffets in the north Miami area, please advise so I don't have to make the trek out there when I get the urge!
Korean BBQ in Miami
If you're in North Miami like I am, and don't want to drive to Doral or Lauderdale, Choice Cafe does a decent job with Korean dishes, and much better than Kyung Ju at the price difference. I had a decent DolSot BiBimBap and Bulgogi the other week, too bad they don't open for dinner.
TOP TAPAS IN FLA
Casa Juancho - an old standby, but still one of the more consistent places to get good Spanish Tapas
Meson Ria De Vigo - I LOVE their Pimientos de Padron, and they were one of the first to bring it to South Florida, followed soon after by Casa Juancho, but I like their preparation better than Juancho's. Great paella negra also
La Barraca - their cantimpalos are tasty, as well as a few of the other hot tapas, although i was never a big fan of the majority of their cold ones
