Out-of-town foodie trying to find a restaurant...help appreciated!

Just to clear things up, I'm expecting so no alcohol for me. My husband isn't much of a drinker so alcohol options won't influence our choice of eating establishment.

You guys are great! This is good feedback. So the word on James isn't all that? I was leaning towards it based on the Philly Mag review, but now, I think I might be feeling Matyson. Osteria sounds great, though.

I was leaning towards Matyson over Fork so I'm glad to hear that. Would you choose Matyson over Osteria?

So...it's hard to find a restaurant on Valentine's Day weekend. I was able to make a reservation at Fork and Matyson. Which would you pick? I'm still hoping a spot will open up at James as that would be my first choice. Should I bother going on the wait list at Osteria?

We'll be in town on Valentine's Day weekend, which probably a bad weekend to eat out, but what can you do? We're on the wait list for James. We'd like to spend about $100 for two (no wine). I'm looking at Osteria but am concerned it might be a little loud for a romantic dinner with my hubby. Am I wrong? Any other suggestions? French, Italian, or New American preferred. I like tapas, but husband doesn't find them them filling enough. I appreciate your help!

Pearmund Cellars or Winery at La Grange?

I received a winery picnic for two as a gift. My choices are Pearmund Cellars or Winery at La Grange. Which would you recommend?

Freezing Butternut Squash

I've got a butternut squash that likely won't make it if I don't do something with it before I leave for the holidays. I'd like to use it for soup. Do I roast it and freeze it or cut it up, freeze it, and then roast it?

Thanks!

Refurbished KitchenAid Stand Mixer? Or Hand Mixer?

I've was never much of a baker, but this year, I started making bread and have been making more baked goodies. After using a manual hand mixer to cream sugar and butter, I feel it's time to upgrade. I could just get an electric hand blender, but am thinking I should just bite the bullet and get a KA stand mixer. Thoughts? What do you think about refurbished KA stand mixers?

Thanks for your help!

What in the world happened to my vinegar????

Thanks! I should have checked the website. If it's good for me, I'll use it! I'll probably strain it, though.

What in the world happened to my vinegar????

I just looked it up. Seriously, I've never hear of this before! The stringy sediment on the bottom looks more like mold. Is that OK?

What in the world happened to my vinegar????

I just pulled my Spectrum brand organic red wine vinegar and there was a solid white crust about 1/4 inch thick on the top and stringy sediment on the bottom. I thought vinegar didn't go bad? No where on the bottle does it say to refrigerate it. I don't have a sales receipt, but I want to take it back to Whole Foods. This is insane!

How should raw pork smell?

I picked up 2 packages of pork tenderloin from Costco. Sell by date is 9/22/08. I've had it in the fridge for about 2 days. I was cutting it up today and I noticed some of the end pieces smelled "fishy". Other pieces smelled fine. How should pork smell? Is it OK or do I need to get rid of the whole lot?

What to do with a Costo-sized box of fresh Italian prunes?

Yes, that's them! I bet my hubby would eat a plum crisp...and the toddler, too! I like the plain yogurt idea, too! I've got some of that!

What to do with a Costo-sized box of fresh Italian prunes?

I asked my husband to get me a bag of prunes from Costco. I failed to mention "dried". He came home with a box of fresh Italian prunes. I'm the only one in the house who will eat them fresh, but I doubt I can eat an entire box by myself. Any recipes ideas? Could I make jam out of them?

Assure me...will I regret the 11-cup food processor I just bought?

I was reading the instruction manual and it says not to use more than 3 cups of flour. I've got a couple bread recipes that require 4 cups. Do you think my 11 cupper could handle it or are those instructions really there for a reason?

Assure me...will I regret the 11-cup food processor I just bought?

Thank you all for your feedback! The food processor arrived yesterday. I love it already. Easy to assemble and clean. I made a some bread today and am very pleased. I'm really glad I got the 11-cup and not something smaller.

Assure me...will I regret the 11-cup food processor I just bought?

I've been wanting one for awhile. I've started making my own bread and I thought it was finally time. Amazon.com was selling the KitchenAid KFP750 for only $172. I pulled the trigger. Will I regret getting the 11-cup over the 9 or 7 cup?

Cafe Atlantico, I can't be bothered...

...to call everyday and spend 20 minutes trying to get through only to find out that I can be 4th in line on their waiting list. I made reservations at Komi instead. The receptionist was so pleasant and had no trouble fitting me in.
