Looking for a few good recommendations for the San Diego area...
I will be staying with a friend who live just outside of San Diego next month and would love a few good recommendations. The four places he suggested I saw on another discussion that I should stay far away from them.
I love good food and atmosphere. No chains please.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Casual girls night out dinner in Ocean/Monmouth co.
cbean,
Not sure about Bamboo Leaf in Howell, but the one in Bradley Beach is good.
need suggestions for 10 year anniversary dinner
Thank you again. Will do.
I will tell him about no jackets. Maybe he will change his mind.

Thank you! Although the menu sounds great, we decided to go a bit more casual (DH was getting his feathers ruffled over wearing jacket in 80 degree weather). We are going to try Market Table on Carmine St. It had great reviews on open table and menu looked good. Have you ever been?

RGR,
Most of the places that we have been to are in NJ. We don't go to the city as often as we would like with two small one's at home. We tend to end up at Nobu on 57th Street. We are going this Saturday.

RGR, I was hoping you would respond as DH and I eat in a lot of the same restaurants as you and your DH. We are going to the matinee. As for cuisine, sushi, seafood, Thai, Peruvian, French, Italian. We eat just about everything. We like ambiance somewhere in the middle if that makes any sense. We love each others company, but at the same time we love to people watch. Thanks!

Doesn't really matter about price. Looking for great food and good atmosphere. Thanks

Going to the theater and looking for somewhere after to go and celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Doesn't have to be in the theater district. Thanks!
Grand Cayman Eats
Doug,
Just came back from Cayman's two weeks ago...
Must eat at Calypso Grill! Coconut crusted shrimp and wahoo eschoviche (spelling) were amazing. Finish it off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert.
Grand Old House was also very good.
Gecko's for lunch on 7 mile beach has good wraps.
Enjoy
GOOD ITALLIAN REST. IN ATLANTIC CITY?
I will second Chef Vola's. Must have the banana cream pie if you go.
Having Dinner at Bay Ave Trattoria on Sat..
We were there couple of weeks ago...here is the other thread on this rest...

It was very good and we will go back in the future.
Klein's in Belmar
moopsi,
haven't been since last summer. I will agree with the negative reviews that are posted above from last year. We had a complete disaster of a dinner. Long wait, they ran out of things and the food was mediocre at best. They do (I am pretty sure) have a liquor license now. I think very over priced and over rated. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you...there are far better restaurants out there for the price. Inlet Cafe in Atlantic Highlands has a nicer view for outside seating and the food is much better and more moderately priced. Great steamers too.
Ipswich Clams at Jersey shore
Haven't been to Inlet Cafe since last summer, but we plan to go this summer for the steamers. Hopefully they are as good as they were last year!
Has anyone been to Bay Ave Trattoria recently?
tom246, thanks. that mac and cheese is awesome...would love to know what is in it that makes it so tasty. I'll have to beg for the recipe next time. Also, forgot to add in the review that we had the marinated olives ($5). Very large portion and nice flavor. Someone remind me next heat wave not to eat all that salt!!! They should take them off the menu and give them to you with bread.
Let us know what you have when you go back.
Shredded Beef Burrito?
not sure about shredded, but Aby's in Matawan has good Mexican food.

Food was great. Tom246 -- took your advice...lots of wine and the mac and cheese is awesome. For apps we had the soup special...something with corn chowder and fish (no clue), but really good. My husband and I are huge fans of Nobu's Kobe beef so we tried the Carpaccio...excellent! As for entrees I had the tile fish special with was over a jambalaya style rice (good, but Drew's is better) with crab meat around the dish. Nice flavor. My husband had the scallops--also very tasty with a lobster bread pudding in the center of the plate. Our friends had the crab crusted tilapia and the pollo del giorno...looked nice, but I didn't try either. Portions are huge and I was having trouble eating my own meal---took half home. For dessert we had malted milk ball gelati---what's not to like and a lemon something pastry...really tart, but good. Bill was $180 with tax not tip. I'd go back in a minute, but so many other places to try. Small place so make a reservation and service was very pleasant.
Enjoy for anyone who goes!
Dinner recommendation In & Around Matawan, NJ
If you are willing to go to Red Bank....
Dish is excellent. They take reservations on Friday nights, but not on Saturday. The Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) special is amazing if they have it. www.dishredbank.com
Thyme Square www.thymesquarerestaurant.com
Gaetano's is good, but a little noisy www.gaetanosredbank.com

Thanks tom246. I will post later and let you know.
