Yikes. Dinner tonight in or near Smithfield, RI?
Oki's Japanese Steak House on Mineral Spring Ave has been there forever and does hibachi fairly well... It's the only place I dine out in Springfield.
MARION / MATTAPOISETT / WAREHAM Please Help!!! Business Lunch...
I am hosting a business meeting and lunch on Friday and need to find a somewhat classy (food more important than decor) spot that I can bring my clients to. I am having a lot of trouble finding anything other than a fried seafood or pizza joint. I assumed there would be something nice near Tabor Academy and scheduled the meeting in Marion, but it is tough researching online. Very little on YELP etc. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thursday evening, big group, not necessarily a sit down dinner...
We will be in Chelsea the first Thursday in May for a family member's art opening and will want to all meet up for a drink and food somewhere afterward. There may be as many as 20+ people so a sit-down meal seems way to difficult. We are looking for a spot with great food and drinks, where people can come and go. A fun scene with some kinda of food/appetizers/tapas, is a must. Any suggestions?
Providence: Chicken & Waffles???
I've heard the most positive things about The Hen House
http://www.thehenhouseboston.com/
But there are also a number of places in Dorchester/Mattapan.
Providence: Chicken & Waffles???
So I know Boston has a number of good chicken & waffles joints... Any in Providence? I have a craving!!! :)
Athens & Santorini, Greece
I will be visiting Athens and Santorini for the first time, and would love some dining suggestions (breakfast, lunch or dinner). Everything from home-style casual to upscale and fancy would be helpful as we want to try a little bit of everything. Thanks so much!
Garnachas in Providence area?
Garnachas: Guatemalan (Oaxacan, really) dish of crispy, fried tortillas topped with ground meat and other savory toppings. Similar to a small tostada.
Lobster Brewster
The Brewster Fish House, on Main Street (Route 6A) is arguably the best seafood restaurant in town. It's small, but the service is always great! They may not have a traditional boiled/steamed lobster on the menu at all times, but last summer I had a butter-poached lobster that was INCREDIBLE! Fish chowder is also a MUST.

Garnachas in Providence area?
I recently visited Belize and Guatemala and LOVED the simple yet flavorful garnachas that were a lunchtime staple... Any idea where you can find these in the Providence/Cranston area around lunchtime? Please help!!!
Cheap Italian Eats (like Angelo's in Providence) in Boston Metro
Red Sauce places can be great, if they are decent quality. I would say $10-15 plates... ~Thanks!
Cheap Italian Eats (like Angelo's in Providence) in Boston Metro
I grew up in Providence and our go-to dinner out was Angelo's Civita Farnese on Atwell's Ave in Providence. Simple Italian-American fare, but always hit the spot and was an amazing value, even for veal dishes. They are still doing a great job today BTW... Anybody know of a place like this in the greater Boston area? I am always willing to drive if it is worth the trip... Thanks!

BEST BREAKFAST/BRUNCH NEAR KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
I have a flight arriving at MCI around 9am and will be getting a rental car and waiting until 12:30pm when a friend arrives, before driving to Kirksville, MO. Rather than taking a cat nap in the car, I figured I'd find a nice place for breakfast/brunch... Any suggestions? As a New Englander, I always take advantage of an opportunity to dine at Waffle House, but am sure Kansas City has more to offer. ;)

Authentic Rotisserie Chicken (take-home)
(just spoke to SC-Seekonk) FYI: They roast the chickens throughout the day as they run-out and only allow them to sit, un-sold for up to 4 hours. The last batch goes in around 5pm as they take 90 minutes to roast. Though they don't take reservations or hold an individual chicken, they are happy to let you know what the supply is via telephone.
Authentic Rotisserie Chicken (take-home)
Thanks Barb! I am actually a member and totally forgot that they do those! I know they are known for having a great butcher shop in general, and right on my way home. Do you think they will have any left around 5:30pm on weeknights?
Authentic Rotisserie Chicken (take-home)
I used to live in Paris and one of the easiest and tastiest dinners was to grab a fresh rotisserie chicken that seemed to be spinning and roasting on every street corner all across the city.
I know most grocery stores (even some Target stores with food) roast these, but they tend to be loaded with bizarre/fake tasting marinades and undoubtedly, chemicals...
I have bought them at Whole Foods in the past, and they are fine, but I'd rather support a more local/independent business... any suggestions?
I work in Cranston and live in Rehoboth, so something in the Cranston, Providence, East Providence, Seekonk, Rehoboth area would be splendid. Thanks!
Lazy Man's Lobster / Lobster Saute / Lobster Casserole
Great suggestions... I will see what I can find :)
Lazy Man's Lobster / Lobster Saute / Lobster Casserole
Thanks! Totally forgot about L.O.'s as it would break my bank... Had a bite of a friends on his birthday and it was amazing!!! They add sherry and cream, which is always a good thing. :)
Lazy Man's Lobster / Lobster Saute / Lobster Casserole
I LOVE lobster but hate the mess and fuss of dealing with a whole steamed lobster, while dining out... I know...I know... That's half the fun right? Anyway, I seem to remember a lot of restaurants on the Cape and elsewhere offering Lazy Man's Lobster: steamed lobster meat, de-shelled and served in drawn butter, often accompanied by toast points, or baked with breadcrumbs. Anyone know a good place still serving this decadent delight in the Boston area? Pleassssseeeee... I have a serious craving!!!
PF Changs now open in Cambridge - Galleria Mall
OK. This is what I hate about this site. I have a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu in London, but can appreciate ALL kinds of food... why reply if you need to be such "haters?" Nothing better to do? Places like Changs may not be authentic at all, but if a narrow-minded American can try something new for the first time and actually enjoy it, I say well-done! There is place for restaurants like this and those that don't have anything meaningful to offer, will close, with or without all the "foodies" railing on them.
Best authentic chinese food in the area?
If you live near/can get to North Cambridge, Qingdao Garden (widely touted as the best hand-made dumplings in the area) is a hole-in-the-wall place. They always have a number of hand-written specials, in Chinese and English, usually comprising of exotic seafood and/or vegetables. They also have a whole section of the menu of more traditional dishes, rarely found at other Chinese-American joints. The majority of diners here are Chinese people and Asian American families, which is always a good sign. It's not much to look at, but the food is amazing and it's a family run business.

PF Changs now open in Cambridge - Galleria Mall
Hey Chowhounders. As a resident of East Cambridge, I was thrilled to see PF Changs was moving into the old Papa Razzi location at the Galleria Mall. Yesterday was opening day and I decided to get some takeout, fully prepared for things to be a little rusty. In truth, they totally had their act together and the food was fantastic, even to-go. A few of things I liked:
1.) There was a clear process to order food to-go at the hostess stand.
2.) Plenty of chairs for waiting on the side of the bar area.
3.) They brought the order over in a shopping basket to be reviewed, by me, prior to packing it up in the usual paper bag etc.
4.) They are offering coupons for a Free Appetizer, with all their takeout menus.
5.) In general, there was a brisk, but not frenetic quality about the restaurant. Staff wasn't tripping over one another to help people, as is so often the case at commercial restaurant openings. It looked/felt like they all knew what they were doing and what their role was.
I know there are better and more authentic Chinese/Asian places around town, but Changs is getting it done well, now right around the corner from me. I hope they can keep it up!
RI / Southeastern Mass "Hot Wieners" (no... they're not X rated...)
Hi Boston Chowhounders...
I grew up in Southeastern Mass and now live in Boston. A common item at diners/burger joints were New York Systems style Hot Weiners: small griddle-cooked hot dogs, on a steamed bun "all-the-way" with yellow mustard, beanless chili sauce, minced onion, and celery salt. They sold for about a buck and 3-6 made a fantastic lunch.
Some of the BEST are at:
Eats Restaurant
1395 Fall River Ave
Seekonk, MA 02771
&
Olneyville New York System Wieners
20 Plainfield St
Providence, RI 02909
They magic is also in the wiener itself. I've never seen these small, thin dogs sold in any supermarkets and are rumored to be so bad for you (loaded with salt and fat content well beyond the standard dog) that they are only sold in bulk to the restaurant industry.
Any idea where you can get them up in/around Boston? I'm too lazy to drive an hour south to RI just for an albeit amazing hot dog.
Best Authentic Pub-Grub in London
I used to live in London, and at the time, had my favorites in Highgate (The Flask, for example). However, it's been a few years and will be visiting this spring with a friend, and want to know which Pubs have the best food... We'll be staying in Kensington, but are willing to hit the Tube in search of the best authentic eats. Thanks!
High-End, Destination Restaurant
It's not in the South End, but Locke Ober is an old-school Bostonian restaurant that many have never tried. Used to be a private, men's eating club just off the common on Winter Pl. The dining room has incredible turn of last century detail and chef Lydia Shire's new American cuisine has never disappointed... the JFK lobster stew is a true classic. Very expensive and formal, but would fit the "special occasion" bill to the T.
Remembering: creamed chipped beef (aka S.O.S.)
Does anyone know where you can still get creamed chipped beef? I have seen it in the grocery store freezer case (Stouffer's) but it was not great. Really looking for a dinner still serving it.
Background: My mother's family is from Lebanon, PA and it used to be a popular breakfast or brunch item at home and served out. Also known as "shit on a shingle" (S.O.S.) or "skinned indian" (sorry all you PC folks out there) it's great comfort food.
Hormel sells the dried beef (in a jar) in most grocery stores, but the best stuff comes from the Daniel Weaver Co, now a brand of the Godshall's Premium Meats Co, out of PA.
The Best of the Boston Brahman Eateries
Once a year, I like to eat out at one of the olde world Bostonian restaurants. Last year, we had a wonderful dinner at Locke-Ober. Which should I hit next?
Visiting LA & looking for quintessential Hollywood experience!
I am meeting some friends out in LA in July and we all LOVE to dine out. We are looking for a true fine-dinning experience but are a bit overwhelmed by the number a "great," not to mention expensive, choices out there. We don't mind spending what it takes, but want to make sure we get our money's worth. We are from all over the country and want to go some place uniquely LA/Hollywood too. Please help!
Great Grilled Pizza (not brick/wood fired oven)
Yes, I have heard that Cambridge 1 is quite good...in fact, Phantom Gourmet highlighted their Grilled Lobster Pizza on the show this morning. Thanks for the rec.
Great Grilled Pizza (not brick/wood fired oven)
Does anyone know of a great place to get GRILLED pizza in Boston? I am from Providence and miss the amazing griled pizza from Al Forno...Bob and Timmy's on Federal Hill wasn't too bad either. Help!....I have a serious craving.
