Any recommendations for Chinese/General TSO in RI?

I like it super hot and spicy and good sized chunks of chicken.. not slivers. Tried a random place in Mass and it was brown and small and weird for General TSO. Shouldn't it be orange? LOL

I might try Mai Tai in Coventry..anyone ever have it there? Any other recommendations?

Pepe's at Mohegan - OPEN

Went here tonight. My first time having Pepe's Pizza and I thought it was great! Loved the way the mozzarella and tomatoe were glopped on. I sure liked it a hell of a lot better than Modern's.

Service on the other hand..all i can say is.. EH.. We got there around 8:30 and the place was pretty empty. There were only 2 tables of people. Not sure if that waitress was new or just having a bad day or what. We're seated and before we could even pick up a menu, the waitress bounces over trying to take our order. We asked for a couple minutes and she took at least 11 minutes to come back. We got up and went to the desk at one point and asked to place an order. There were 2 people on the "server" side of the counter who were just talking and putting pizza boxes together. They stressed they were just "Servers" and we need to wait for the one and only waitress on duty who disappeared in the back somewhere. Few minutes after that was when I guess someone had called her and she finally came over and took our order.

We ordered drinks with our pizza and she took about 6 minutes to bring those out...but probably only because another table of people came and she brought ours out at the same time. We ordered first and yet she gave them their drinks first and then took their pizza order down. She wasn't nasty or anything but I think it's safe to assume she was either new or just ending a really bad day.

Ok so Pepe's is in Earth side of Mohegan..where?

I should be going there on Wednesday. I usually hit the Riverview garage and stay in Sky but Pepe's is over in Earth. I can't really figure it out via Mohegan's Website. It just says it's over near some Market..and I don't know where that is either! I know Mohegan pretty well..just not that side. I remember seeing the sign that it was "coming" but that was found accidentally. LOL.

Somewhere said it was best to park at Winter Garage..but isn't that the one that doesn't even connect to the casino and you need to use the shuttle?

Ok so if I park in Indian Summer...any specific door/side to go in to make it easier? Then which way?

I have a messed up ankle..I just want to get some pizza, play a few draw poker slots with the least amount of walking as possible and avoiding a wheelchair. haha.

Help this New Haven area transplant find good pizza here in RI

I hated their fluffy, white bread undercooked style crust!

Help this New Haven area transplant find good pizza here in RI

lol. I've lived in RI my entire life and it wasn't until the past 2 years or so I have found my *favorite* pizza places in this state. There are certain tastes and style I look for and now have places I regularly go to but I'm not going to bother recommending them because I'm sure my style/taste preference is different than yours.

i'm a pizza snob like most of you on here... But really, my advice.. how about finding something you DO like in RI instead of trying to replicate "New Haven" style pizza? RI does NOT have a style. There are different ones throughout the state. I can't figure out why anyone would torture themselves ordering "Carmela's" if they don't like it..(I"ve never had it) but what's the point if it it leaves you feeling angry and disappointed afterward like bad sex? LOL

Everyone has said on these boards over and over that you just don't find "New Haven Pizza" in anywhere BUT New Haven. There is a goofy little place in North Providence that calls itself "New Haven" pizza, but I remember reading that the few posters that love New Haven Pizza and tried it for kicks... were highly disappointed.

Best ice cream in CT

Rayliene in Putnam CT. Ri Border. If you're a Hershey fan, you'll like it. Icecream.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Raylien...

Or Ekonk Turkey Hill farm in CT. Homemade, and on a farm. You can taste the difference compared to grocery store ice cream by how rich and thick it is. Really flavorful too, doesn't taste watered down or blah. Maple Walnut is made with real maple, chocolate is great, chocolate chip has HUGE and LOTS of big chips..can't even find basic chocolate chip anywhere else anymore!

Only flavor I wouldn't recommend is the cookie dough icecream..tastes kinda..salty. Like a cheapy batch of homemade cookie dough.

Rayliene Corner Cafe in Putnam CT

Anyone ever been here? I was on my way back to RI when I was at the light and saw the "Hershey's Icecream" sign..and with it being 80+ degrees out and knowing I had another 40 mins of driving to do..I decided to stop in. Nice little place..on the corner..has a diner, beer and an outside window to order icecream/food at if you don't want to go in. Good service..the girls actually have personality and smile unlike other places I've been to where they act like you're disturbing their day for being a customer. You can even sit in your car and wait 10 minutes for your food to cook and they'll bring it out to you. lol

Icecream was pretty good and the hotdogs were better than A&W's. They actually toast/fry the bun a little which A&W doesn't seem to do.

Fries weren't anything special but well they were hot and fresh. Better than average.

Fresh Market coming to Westport, CT

Out of all the message boards/forums I'm on.. I've never heard of this so I wouldn't be interested. I always heard of Trader Joe's being the equal to Whole Foods... and I find Trader Joe's disapointing in most areas.

Sick of hard, crispy, shoe string fries.

I've heard of this place before but where exactly are they located? I couldn't even find it on Google Street VIew.

Also, do they do take out or is this a diner type lace?

Sick of hard, crispy, shoe string fries.

For some reason lately everytime I order a fry, I get crispy, Burger King style fries. Iggy's in RI, A&W drive thru in RI, couple other little resteraunts.. Where can I find a good, thick, greasy but NOT soggy french fry? No shoe strings and curly fries.

.
Actually I think my favs are from China Jade Chinese Resteraunt in Johnston, RI... As weird as that is. But sometimes they're too soggy.

A&W - Yuck. Was it always that bad?

It was a real one. We only have one in RI and ti's been here for years.

I don't drink rootbeer so can't comment on that. I had a chocolate shake and like I said - blah.

A&W - Yuck. Was it always that bad?

I went to the one in RI for the first time in over 10 years.. I don't remember it being bad. But it was.

The hot dogs were OK but the buns were kind of blah.

French Fries - Yuck! I was expecting some nice, greasy, hot fries and instead I got hard, crispy shoe string fries that most likely came from something frozen from Walmart.

Chicken Strips/Tenders - It was like $7 for the Combo with the fries. Nothing special about the tenders. Honestly, Burger King's are better and cheaper and it's about 30 seconds away from A&W.

Chocolate Shake/Malts. Are you kidding me? What was that? I'll stick with Cold Stone.

I haven't been to Spike's yet. I think I'll try there next.

"New Haven Pizza" in North Providence, RI

I saw this place the other day and lol'd. There were people sitting outside eating pizza facing traffic..it just looked funny. Well that looked funny and "New Haven apizza" when you're in North Providence, RI.

We're in RI, not New Haven. It'd be like opening a pizza place in Virginia and calling it RI Pizza.

Eh. Panera Bread. - moved from New England board

lol..that was the FIRST one I ever went in. I was disappointed that they didn't have "normal" bagels you'd find anywhere else. No Cinnamon Raisin and to make it worse they were out of the Cinnamon Crunch so I didn't try it until my recent visit.

Eh. Panera Bread. - moved from New England board

What are your thoughts on this place?

I went in a few years ago and wasn't impressed. Hey, for a bakery and pastry place they didn't even have "chocolate chip muffins" they have these goofy "muffies" or "muffin tops. LOL.

Someone dragged me in there a few weeks ago and I tried 2 soups and thougth they were really good. Not amazing but decent. Not exactly worth 4.49 each either..But it was good. It was around 7pm too and it seemed freshly made.

Anyway, its cold and I was in the mood for soup so I stopped in a different Panera Bread at another location. Yuck. The same soup and this place must've had leftovers that were reheated and sitting out for days. The noodles were mushy and gross like they get when sitting around for so long. I went around 11am when it should have been fresh you would think. Yuck.

Bagels are mediocore. The Cinamon Crunch is really cinamon-y though. You don't see that anymore with bagels. But it was soggy and the shape was all scrunched.

Maybe it's just this particular location that sucked. (Route 2, Warwick RI) Although you couldn't tell by all the cars in and out of that place.

Finding kitchen supply stores?

lol @ "Assess Their Quality" I find this easy..and hard at the same time.

Easy part - Stay away from things with Made In China stickers on the bottom.
Hard part - Everything is made in China!

bagels

I love Whole Foods' bagels. Dunkin is soggy, pieces of crap. Even Tim Hortons is better than Dunkins.Don't bother with Panera Bread either. They suck too.

Anyway, try searching this board. Bagels are a popular topic.

Fudge in East Hartford. :)

Ha. Cool. I'm not the only one who has discovered this. :)

In general though I think the best fudge is when you make it yourself. lol. I've always used a simple Hershey recipe that you basically buy chocolate chips and some kind of canned milk and melt it on the stove or microwave and stick it in the fridge. lol

Mohegan Restaurant

My favorite is Starbucks. :D

I just wanted to let you know that if you are planning on eating there during a "show" day.. be prepared to make a night/day of it. LOL It's crazy when shows are going on. After the shows, almost EVERYONE heads upstairs and there's a line just to get on the escalators to the restaurants.
