Great Sandwich Spots in Nova Scotia
I've only been a couple of times, but the Salt Shaker Deli in Lunenburg makes terrific sandwiches. Menu can be seen at http://www.saltshakerdeli.com/
Also, thanks for the heads-up re: the Old World—I now know where I'm eating should I find myself in Yarmouth!
Dartmouth-area Coffee Shop
I don't think they're set to open until the end of the month, but Two If By Sea on Ochterloney street looks like it's going to be great: http://twoifbyseabakeshop.com/index.html
Upscale business lunch spot in Halifax
Fid is open for lunch Tue-Fri, 11:30am-2:00pm, but I'm unsure whether its atmosphere is conducive to business conversation or not.
[Edit: oops, somehow missed that you're going to Gio. Have a great lunch!]
Bear Restaurant
I felt like Bear was maybe *slightly* overrated... It was long enough ago that I won't go into specifics (both due to my fuzzy memory and the fact that their menu's probably different now) but I remember our party being floored by the amazing, interesting appetizers and possibly a bit disappointed by conventional-by-comparison entrées. Still, well worth a visit and completely enjoyable.
press gang
It's probably redundant at this point to say, but I agree with all of the above re: The P.G. - Fid, Bear (not particularly molecular gastronomical imho), Gio, and many others are grossly superior and in a similar (or cheaper!) price range.
CUT Steakhouse, Halifax
Has anyone been to CUT on Salter Street? The menu posted on their site looks insanely good and I'm tempted to check it out.
