Calgary Restarurant Closures - Say it Ain't So!!
Olives officially closed it's doors the first day after Stampede.
Late Night Eats in YYC
Anything shawarma. There are lots of options...Shawarma Knight off 17th or Shawarma King in Kensington are both tasty. A&A is by far my #1 pick, but they arn't open very late.
**Note: If you've had a bit to drink, just make sure you eat your Shawarma at the table with lots of napkins (once tried to take my boots off sitting on the edge of my bed while devouring a chicken shawarma...most of it ended up in bed rather than my mouth)
BR& and WEST in YYC
BR& opened up on Stephen Ave on Friday. In an old heritage building that was once a bank. Looks very intimidating from the street, I must admit. Anyone been in yet or know anything about it?
WEST restaurant, winebar and roof top patio in Scotia Center (+15,+30 levels and the roof) is set to be open by April. Managed to get a peek inside last week when the construction crew was leaving. Looks pretty amazing. Thoughts?
Opening in Calgary?
Will be open by April, guaranteed. Also, rooftop patio can be seen from 16 office buildings, so they are building private cabanas....awesome.
Dine Out Calgary March 5 to 14, 2010
Being a local foodie and cook I've eaten at both before. Very memorable and would go back to either in a heartbeat (... my bank account isn't compatible with my desire for fine, and usually pricey, dining picks). Love, love, love the set $85 menu. I went to Rush last year for dining week and it was outstanding (and a steal at $35). You're in for some great birthday dinner celebrations...be sure to keep us posted on the eats!
Dine Out Calgary March 5 to 14, 2010
Excellent opportunities to go to Chefs Table or Rush. Muse looks decent, too.
YYC - Dinner around the Chinook Centre Area
Seoul Korean BBQ is pretty tasty. It's further down MacLeod, somewhere around 42nd. Good stuff and I gather it's pretty authentic.
Opening in Calgary?
It's huge...somewhere around 700 seats (with the patio open). It's supposed to be open in the next 5 weeks or so.
YYC lunch spots
I was thinking of things that I could eat while walking back to work. Enjoy some of this nice weather while having my lunch. But, good suggestions, Manzo, they are a step in the right direction!
YYC lunch spots
Something that is quick, in and out and...TASTY! I seem to have hit a viet sub rut and I need a change. Ideas? Preferably, but not limited to, downtown.
Opening in Calgary?
It is backed by the Met group and the signage that they are using to board it up are the same ones from Mercury, hence why they would look familiar.
Marshmallow Peeps in the YYC
There is a candy store in Inglewood which might serve your purposes. If not, perhaps a trip out to Banff to Welch's...I know they have them there.
Fine dining meal in Calgary for a special moment
Beautiful space and great wait staff, but it's way to expensive for what your getting. For Italian I recommend La Vita e Bella.
Opening in Calgary?
New restaurant in the Scotia Center is set to open by the start of February. It's going to be 2 floors plus a rooftop patio.
Turning 18 in Calgary - Pubs, steak house?
Perhaps venture to The TRIB on stephen ave. Sit in the lounge, rather than the dining room, it's more lively. Good drink list, even better lounge nibblies (truffle wings...mmm). They also offer the full dining room menu. Not overly expensive either, for a steak house.
Decaffinated Tea
The Tazo passion tea is great. I think it needs a little splash of honey though...
Also, good served cold.
In YYC I know there is a decent little (very little, actually) tea store in Eau Claire. I'm not sure of the name, but it's easy to find. Staff is very helpful.
Sushi Club / Club Sushi - Calgary
Last time I ate at Sushi Club, they were running a feature roll that was something along the lines of a California roll but it also had Cornflakes in it. Seemed weird and random, so the SO and I had to try it. I was amazed! So, so good. Now, I crave the Cornflake crunch every time I go out for sushi.
Calgary Tower -Good, Bad or Ugly?
Word on the street is that Chabot brought along all his favorite cooks from Belvedere with him to the Tower (I think a few followed to ll Sogno, as well). They are a very talented crew, so I would expect a good dining experience.
YYC breakfast spots
So, I went to AKA Winebar this past Sunday. Got right in at noon and it was almost dead. Had my old stand by of 2-eggs Any Style. All was very tasty (especially the sausage), but my over-easy eggs were way, way over cooked. Over all, good service and good food. Will be going back soon.
Also enjoyed watching all the poor saps waiting to get into Diner Deluxe across the street while I was sipping my coffee...
Saint Germain - 39 prix fixe and zero corkage
I went and did this at Saint Germain a few months back, but I was wondering if they are still offering it. With the zero corkage it was such a good deal. Anybody hear anything?
YYC breakfast spots
Anybody been to AKA Winebar for brunch yet? I've heard rumors of porkbelly eggs benedict...
Where 2 buy: COCONUT oil
Not sure if this helps at all in the slightest, but in Calgary they stock it at Community Natural Foods. Perhaps it's a chain?
Yummy, yummy soups - YYC
Pho Anh and Shikiji are two of my favorites in the city. Love, love, love!
Booker's (Cgy)
Word on the street it's being redone by the same crew who opened Rush last year.
Yummy, yummy soups - YYC
With the start of Autumn rolling around I finally realized summer is over (although weather is still freakishly hot for September. And no snow...strange). One thing I love about winter is lots of good comfort food. Personally, I am a big soup person. Any places in Calgary that must be checked out for an soup experience?
Rockefeller Center...HELP!
Hmm...good to know before I waste my time looking for something that doesn't exist. Thanks, all!
Summer '09 Restaurant Week - plans, reviews
Oh, I am so pumped now. I really appreciate a good pate...big points in my books.
Summer '09 Restaurant Week - plans, reviews
I have never been for RW, but I was there last summer and it was decent. The location and the view is what would bring me back.
