You could check out the Montclair Egg Shop in Oakland's Montclair district. Or you could brave the lines at Bette's Oceanview Diner on 4th Street in Berkeley.

I second the motion for Cafe Colucci, which is on Telegraph just north of Alcatraz. Don't be put off by the Italian name (Ethiopia was once an Italian "colony," after all). I liked the beef in Berbere sauce.

I just walked by Kawayan this morning and saw newspapers over all the windows. No one's answering their phone either... that location must be the kiss of death since nothing seems to stay there very long. How sad.

I used to work in Emeryville (and attended many a farewell lunch during that time). We did Bucci's a couple of times, as well as Sea Salt, Vanni and 900 Grayson in Berkeley. How about Town House?

Arizmendi on San Pablo in Emeryville usually has some interesting stuff.

Anyone seen Wolferman's English muffins in any Oakland/Berkeley stores? I know that Bristol Farms in L.A. has sold them, and there's now a BF store in the new Westfield shopping center on Market Street in San Francisco... I'm hoping to avoid crossing the bridge for English muffins, though!
