Who has the best fried clams without beef or pork fat?
How to live up to your name, SC!!
Last time I spoke to the folks at Essex Seafood (last year), they were still frying in lard.
And I was still loving it.
CH-er challenge: help calling the shot on perfect placement?
Nice Bob, and Bergamot, Rendezvous or perhaps Area Four. Also Eastern Standard or ICOB. Bit louder though, as is East Coast Grill. Depends on the willingness to tolerate for "fun, upbeat place", which these all are.
ICOB (Island Creek Oyster Bar), I know you've heard it all before
but I have to rave about the special I had there with my daughter last night. It was pan seared scallops served over homemade pasta (tagliatele?) with grilled calamari and a kind of pomodoro sauce. The scallops were perfect, medium sized scituate scallops, the calamari tender and delicious, and the pomodoro sauce had an unusually good spicy kick for a restaurant of this size serving this volume: nice chunks of tomato, all in all really good. The service, as usual was fabulous: no problem splitting and order for the two of us. And, of course, beautifully shucked, delicous oysters. We had ICs, the wellfleet, falmouth and RI oysters ; still love the Creeks the best, though.
If you're in the neighborhood soon, and they still have that special.. don't miss it!
Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford
I agree with your take on the duck, Ferrari, though as a lunch special for 8 plus bucks, a nice serving of duck, and pretty good flavor. Had the Ma Po Tofu lunch special again today. Good spice, nice texture to the tofu which didn't break up when picked up with chopsticks. Gotta say it's a pretty good version. I much prefer Sichuan Gourmet for everything else, but I almost never get Ma Po tofu there anymore, and the SP version may be my regular lunch in the area, when I don't want garlic breath all afternoon from Gene's noodles.
O Ya… Consistency whittled down to the dull art of repetition; or One and Done
Sounds like jgg searched Yelp for comments on Cafe Sushi. Interesting comment about "restaurant community" supporting CS, as I'd heard positive things from restaurant folks as well. May be worth a try.
Returning to boston after 3years away.
Also, ptp,
I think the whole Angela's craze hit after you left, so you might want to swing by East Boston for that some mole.
Please advise, Saturday dinner for 3, similar to Bondir?
Bergamot, Rendezvous, Ten Tables and TC Food are the "comps" in the area, I believe. Central Kitchen is a level below, IMO. Bergamot gets my vote for your request.
Best Indian Takeout or Delivery near Harvard / Porter
Kebab Factory is in Somerville, but delivers to Cambridge and Somerville.

Where can I find Boston's best and freshest fried haddock plate?
Moulton's Seafood in Medford always gets praise on this board for their fried stuff, though I haven't been myself, yet.
MA/Boston food wedding favor idea?
Does it have to be food, or food related? Nice oyster knife?
Dunkin Donuts's Angus Steak & Egg Sandwich
Jan threw away the streak and egg sandwich, (as did I), but apparently liked the wrap.perhaps I'll have to give that a go.have to admit i'm gunshy, after that sandwich (shudder!)
Bibimbap
I know the mods will delete or move this, but can you post your bibimbap recipe? just got a stone bowl for cooking 'em for my bday.
Visiting from Boston with my 15 yo daughter
Just wanted to thank you all for your help!! I tried to post a couple of times on the trip, but each time my iPad would refresh midway through and delete my post...frustrating!
Anyway, we had a great time.
Dinner at Coi was a highlight. My daughter didn't love everything on the tasting, but enjoyed enough, and loved the experience. The oysters on the oyster liquor gelee were a big hit, as was the pressed grilled artichoke. I loved the asparagus soup and the lamb (done two ways: tartare and grilled).
We had a nice brunch at the Squat and Gobble. A mini chain I guess, but with enough uniqueness to seem like it's own place. and nicely made huevos rancheros.
Dim Sum ended up at City View, on the recommendation of our hosts, and was fine. Not amazing, but fine.
Thanks again!!
Hollywood for a visit
No, a Joes that opened in January on Cahuenga near Multiview, I think.
Hollywood for a visit
Im in Hollywood with my daughter visiting old friends for a few days and sightseeing. Well be in various touristy areas during the day. We like most foods, esp sushi and Mexican, we'd like to try Cali-mex. suggestions for lunches and perhaps a nice place we could take my friends and his daughters for dinner would be great. We're thinking of hitting Joe's Falafel today, for example. Good choice?
The *NEW* East Coast Grill
I think you're right. I retract my previous post. Just thought I'd read that somewhere.
The *NEW* East Coast Grill
Just to keep it going. I thought the original "mayo" reference was to Kewpie mayonaisse mixed with a little Siracha, which I thought was typical for bahn mi, no?
Visiting from Boston with my 15 yo daughter
Thanks, all. I'll see if I can book either Perbacco or Fleur de Lys.
Visiting from Boston with my 15 yo daughter
Thanks for all the conitinued suggestions. I don't know where we'll stay, or even in town.
Anyone with comments on Coi? Should I keep the reservation or switch our "fancy" meal to Farallon?....or not maria. The dim sum sounds like a real winner.
Visiting from Boston with my 15 yo daughter
She's a fairly adventurous eater, generally. She likes seafood and is fond of our local oysters. Will eat spicy food, but not fond of Indian. I'm thinking of one fancyish meal and maybe one at a good SF Chinese restaurant. I've got a reservation at Coi, should I keep it or go elswhere? Any help would be appreciated.
Grandparents Wedding Anniversary! Please help
Price range? Any type of food preferences? Adventurous eaters? Degree of fanciness? Casualness? Ethnic food a possiblility.
Otherwise, special occaision , no limit, only 10 people, lets splurge and do a tasting at Menton or L'espaulier!
Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe, Chelmsford
Me, too, Ferrari. Just finished my takeout. Maybe I saw you there. I agree, a ton of garlic that I didn't finish (and am oozing the rest out my pores as we speak), but delicious. I normally vehemently oppose the use of "toothsome" in these posts, but it may be the best adjective for these delicious, chewy noodles. I also agree that the pork flatbread was not as exciting, maybe I'll try the beef and the House noodle soup next.
Also, no crowd at all today at noon, almost disappointingly quiet for this unique places future.
Curing Salt/Pink Salt in greater Boston area?
You can get a small jar at any William Sanoma (got mine in the Burlington Mall) for about $8
The Back Deck, Boston
The Chef/owner is from the late lamented Daddyo's, a predecessor to Oleana. Don't know when it'll open, but I'm looking forward to it. Another pre-theater option!
