great holiday decor

i agree 100% about those type of places not having great food.

I know about the Sea Grill and the big tourist places. I'm more looking for something that is just nicely done for the holidays. "Christmasey" if you will. It doesn't necessarily need to be near the tree., just festive.

These people that are coming are a bit hard to place. They think I can invent a restaurant for them i think!

great holiday decor

I have some people coming into town and they've asked to dine at festive restaurants with holiday decor and good food. They've given no specifications except great holiday decor. Any ideas? aparefer midtown east or west but willing to travel not too far.

Thanks!

Crabs

Hello!
There was a topic somewhere between a few weeks and a month ago that listed maybe three places in nyc where they served crabs with mullets to break them open. I think they are served on newspapers or brown paper. I think the restaurants that did them only did them on special nights. I meant to save the page but forgot and now have been searching to no avail!

help!

My first trip to Arthur Avenue!

For Produce, you'd be surpised but the supermarket on Arthur Ave: MODERN, has excellent produce. MUCH better than in the market. I think it has something to do with just how cold the store is kept.

We must get into Per Se

Last minute sometimes works too... I was suprised when I called there today and was able to get a res for 9:30 tomorrow evening for 2! Unfortunately I was making it for someone else so won't be enjoying the meal myself!

Momofuku Ko wine pairing

Ah yes!!! now that its a proper hour of the day I remember.

Thanks for the link! I was totally forgetting the spelling

Momofuku Ko wine pairing

We went pretty early on, I think they were only offering the $50 at that point. My boyfriend is not a huge wine drinker and we had a 9:45ish res so I didn't really think I could drink the full pairing and still stay awake!! They were really great and gave me I think just the ones that were really outstanding. Three if I remember correctly (including the starting sparkinling) Definately had the amazing sauvignon blanc (that I am totally blanking on the name, but it is made with skins so is darker)

Mexican in the Fordham area...

Any amazing Mexican in the area?? Even better if it's the little hole in the wall type places with phenomenal food.

Thanks

Early Dinner after Bronx Zoo

welcome for the tip... i made the mistake on going on the free day once... never again!

Dmleo.. maybe you are thinking of the wrong restaurant... Tra Di Noi doesn't even have any red sauce Italian-American on the menu, no chicken parm, meatballs, etc etc etc. The food I've had there only compares with that I've had in Italy.
I do agree about Egidio's lately though...

Marseille - Never Again

Scratxh Carmine's too noisy, too busy and the food is only sub par.

I had an amazing meal the other day at Roberto Passon on 50th and 9th. I had an amazing grilled octopus appetizer that I'm still thinking about

Early Dinner after Bronx Zoo

FYI about the zoo on Wednesdays... that is their "FREE" day..... meaning SUPER crowded!!!!!!!!!!!! If you can do it on a different day that would be my suggestion!

Being that Roberto's doesn't take reservations, I would try Tra Di Noi on 187th. It is across the street from the church and next to Egidio's bakery. I personally think they are soooo much better than Roberto's. Definately have something off of the blackboard. Than afterwards you can go to Egidio's for a pastry or on the corner of 187th and arthur to the new cafe that has outdoor seating (sorry i'm blanking on the name right now)

Good places to eat near Marriott Marquis in TS

Fyi it's Blue Fin not Blue Wave... used to be great, the last few times I've been there, service and food were both a bit spotty. But it is still a good option in the area...

Check out Hell's Kitchen on 9th ave....modern mexican and one of my favorite restaurants in the area

Breaded red snapper - any suggestions?

Had a great crispy whole red snapper at Pampano last night, very light and served with a tomato salad (perfect for the 95 degree heat!) Apparently this is one of their signature dishes...

Arthur Ave suggestions

Definately check out Trattoria Tra Di Noi on 187th ST across from Mt. Carmel church. Rigoletto's and Mario's are much more "red sauce". Tra Di Noi is small and family owned. Chef is from Italy and the food is outstanding!! Last time we were there, the butcher from Biancardi's was there and the guy from Teitlel brothers! If they are there you know its good!
Definatley check out the blackboard specials. We had rabbit while i was there and a great seafood salad!

sunday brunch - west 50's

Roberto Passon... 50th and 9th.
Good food and for $8 extra unlimited cocktails.

Grand Central Area

The places downstairs in the "terminal" are definately NOT what i had in mind.
LeahBaila- I'm looking in a 10 block radius I suppose.
Some places I already know about and enjoy in that area are Pampano, Benjamin's, Pera. Dos Caminos 3rd ave has a suprisingly delicious brunch FYI. (even if it is brguest)
I'm looking for great chinese, italian, deli, etc. I need to have these in my arsinal of restaurants, and I guess I've just never spent enough time on the east side!

Thanks

Grand Central Area

Hello all.

I want to say that I'm a foodie and a born and raised NYer. However I'm really a west side girl.

I am now going to be working in the immediate vacinity of grand central station. My job requires me to know the area VERY well and to make reccomendations of where to eat, go, do etc etc.

Any and all options would be greatly appreciated. Brunch, chinese, delis, etc etc etc etc

thanks in advance!
