If you have a favorite restaurant that you are a regular at... they will often sell you a lb or 2 near cost.

Due Venti @ Clawson - DTW

Love it! And I think they are open for lunch now with a patio, if you are looking for a way to eat there on a budget. But I must say when food is crafted with such care, it is worth the extra expense. Owned by a husband and wife chef team... you can taste the love! Glad it is in my hood!

Seva in Detroit Midtown?

Althbough I think the Seva in A2 is pretty good, the location in Detroit needs to get their service together.
No one greeted at the door until the chef spotted us... no big deal, just thought bad timing. They bwanted to seat us up front but we asked to be seated in back towards the bar, looked cozier. Chairs were cool but more uncomfortable than anything I have ever sat in. Server took 10 minutes to get to us. We had to flag someone over... bartender was in full view of us but never gave us any eye contact.
Out of one wine we wanted. okay no biggie
ordered a bottle and a fresh juice. watched the juice sit on the bar for ten minutes after we received the wine. we finally got it ourselves.
ALL our lunches were cold, starting with the 2 soups we ordered. Then our lunches came. Sweet potato fries good but ice cold. no exageration here. Friends veggie rueban was good, stirfry bland and I had a noodle dish which was medium at best but was lukewarm (not intentionally). We complained to our server about a meal. Manager sat one table over talking to someone about advertising, then dissapeared for the rest of our meal, never stopped by.
Our server said the manager offered us a free dessert, we took it. It was vegan so i'll rate it not too harshly... horrible. soggy crust, no flavor.
After we left, we called and asked to speak with a manager, she said she was unaware of our situation while we were in the building but heard about it after the fact. We reminded her she bought us dessert, she told us it was not her that did that but the owner. I was shocked that if the owner was there, he never came over to apologize personally or at the very least send a manager over.
Granteed we went about a month ago, so they werre still pretty new and fresh... but... not one thing about the place makes me want to go back. except to support Detroit. Went down the street after to the Crepe place. pretty yummy.
Oh, I almost forgot to metion that the wine we ordered was on special that day for half off and we were charged 3/4 price. when we mentioned that to the manager over the phone, she said it was a misprinted price on the original menu so we really did recieve 1/2 off the wine. geeze, you think someone may have mentioned that when we ordered it.
they sent us 1 50$ giftcard as an apology. i told my friend she could keep it as I had little interest in going back. that's how bad it was.
Hope they get it together for midtowns sake. Anyone have a better experience yet?

I went March 14, we got there right AT 5:30 and it was already busy. El Guapo & Jaques Tacos were the two best trucks...
My complaint was not the wait times but the lack of variety. You see all these exciting & unique street food shows on the cooking channel and all everybody had in RO was tacos, burgers or a hotdog guy. Granted the tacos were a little dressed up but what about some noodles or salads or seafood????? anything other than a taco would have been an improvement. We enjoyed the experience, certianly wouldn't wait more than 15 minutes for streetfood... unlesss...
they had a beer truck next time. just saying...

Best of Detroit report in Real Detroit Weekly your thoughts? LINK

I thought it was embarassing, especially when the best beer was budweiser. REALY!?!? We live in Michigan, home of awesome craft beers. Such a missed oppurtunity for Detroit & its suburbs.

Any other suggestions for the Santa Cruz area?

Looking for Santa Cruz Restaurant for local food lover!

My sister Karen will be in Santa Cruz for a week. I want to send her to a restaurant that emphisizes local cuisine including wine and beer. She loves seafood and mexican but I am open to any and all suggestions. Casual places vs. high end would be appreciated. We don't care for overly formal or stuffy places. No dive joints though, it is her birthday afterall!! She is a great eater and loves to get the "feel" of a city through their cuisine. No chains or tourists traps please. She has a car so she can drive a bit if neccesary... Thanks!

chef coming to marietta, georgia for research. Any suggestions?

What we did and an what we thought:
Burgers at Flip were great, so were the drinks and the service. We had tha Osso Bucco burger, the Shrimp burger and the Brussels sprouts. YUM!
We had wine and pimiento cheese @ South City Kitchen. the cornmeal cracker served with the cheese was one of the best housemade crackers I have had in awhile. Need to ask chef for recipe.
We stopped in at Muss and Turners and took dessert home: smores, chocolate salted tart and lemon tart. All were very good and beautiful.
Sat at the bar at Abbatoir, awesome chicken liver pate in a jar, and housemade beef jerky, charcuterie plate and good beer. Service was very indifferent though, bartender could have cared less if we were there or not. Cool dining room, if service were better I would be in love.
Pop corn (too greasy), hushpuppies and lamb slider, and simple cheeseplate (could have used a lil sumpin else on it) at Local Three. Warm service and a cool hidden jem! One of my faveorite places.
Taco mac (I know it is a chain but we went for a certain sandwich)...a shitload of beers on top! And the best bartender we had the whole trip! Thank you Chad!
Lunch in Roswell at Salt, kind of dissaponting, we had the fried shrimp app. Maybe it is just what we ordered??? Cool looking place though. LOVED Inc. Streetfood and their softshell crabs and margaritas. Cool joint, great idea, great bartender!
Decatur was my favorite. leons full service was GREAT! Bacon in a jar with penut butter, frites with curry sauce, flat bread pizza, mussels, and an amazing chickpea salad.
Cakes and Ale was okay, gourgers were boring, service was nice, best thing there was sliced ham salad with marinated greens. very good!
Drinks at Brick Store Pub. Too busy to eat (and we were full) but loved the atmosphere! The beer list was to die for!
Holeman and Finch with the funny and snarky waiter with attitude but he was good and I say if you can walk the walk well then talk the BS too. I love a good snarky server! GREAT drinks. The BEST "hotdog" I ever had in my life, deviled eggs were average, raw oysers (served on chilled rocks (cool!) farro sald medium. hot spot...lots of action. One of my favorites of the trip. Amazing dessert some kind of "pudding" English style, caramel?
last spot was BLT at the W for lunch the popovers are worth the trip but everything else was good, but not super cool or over inspiring.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Atlanta is a hot food town!!!!

chef looking for late night restaurant and more

We went to FnB and they were terrific to us. Of course our plane was delayed and they kept the kitchen open late. Good food, great AZ wine and perfect service. We headed towards jerome and stopped at Rock Springs Cafe for a great breakfast and a slice of pie. Had snacks at Page Springs Cellars (nice!!!...loved the wine and the location was beautiful) and dinner in Jerome @ Belgian Jennies Pizzaria. Good Pizza! Breakfast at Flat Iron Grill in Jerome ...awesome! Had Lunch in Sadona at a mexican place known for 1000 omelettes (the Coffee Pot???).... great Mexican and dinner at the Asylum back in Jerome. Nice service, cool location and decent not great food. I heard the owner changed and it hasn't been the same since. Loved loved loved the wines at Page Spings, really really liked the wines at Caduceus, liked the wines at Arizona Stronghold and had a GREAT time over at Pillsbury although I thought the wines ranged from good to just okay. Thanks for all the tips, I can't wait to go back to AZ... I fell in love with the area.

What is the single best restaurant in Phoenix?

I was wondering if you (or anyone for that matter) have a recommendation for a great food spot (emphisis on local cuisine) that is open late (past 10 PM) on a Friday night? Better than a burger joint please, but excellent Mexican or Southwest food would suffice.

chef looking for late night restaurant and more

I am a chef from the Detroit area and I will be in Tempe AZ for one night. Our plane lands late (10 pm) and we are looking for a restaurant open late, something other than the usual pub, pizza food, with a great wine list would be ideal (boyfriend is a wine importer/distributor).
We will be driving to Jerome the next day and visiting Arizona Stronghold. Anyone want to plan our food visits along the way???

Tom Brady - Diamond Jim's - Detroit

I worked for Mary and Tom for over 5 years many moons ago. Tom was one of the classiest restauranteurs I have ever met. Always gracious, generous and always ALWAYS a gentleman. Beyond family and fiends, there were so many customers at his wake, a true testement to the kind of guy he was. I miss you Tom. Thank you for everything you did for me and for so many others just like me. Love you, Sharon

Forest Grill, Birmingham, MI

Went there for dinner a few weeks ago. We sat at the bar and we thought the food was excellent with nice service. We had duck confit, proscuitto pizza and lobster risotto, the risotto was superb. Yes, it was a bit pricey especially the agnoletti (sp?) appetizer with serrano ham, but you could tell everything was prepared by a staff that cares. Dining room ambieance was a bit low key and a tad boring, but this is the kind of place you go to eat. I think it is a keeper!

Detroit

Lola's in Harmonie Park for a nice Happy Hour, GREAT drinks, good bartender, live jazz and pretty decent food.
Rattlesnake Club still has excellent food (even if Jimmy can't drive drunk so well). Slow's BBQ is fun with great food and an odd but cool patio. Perfect for casual group...good beer too! For ultra fine dining Cuisine is nice but lacks fun. Greek town and Mexican town are fun for visitors.... find the holes in the wall...much better than the BIG "favorites".
Russel Street Deli is great for sandwiches... in Eastern Market and cool to see that area (if you go early enough and they are still buying and selling).
Have fun!
