Ben and Jerry's Pesach Ice Cream
Many thanks for posting this link. Loved the moving cow. Dulce d'Leche took a few minutes to figure out like many of the words that aren't really Hebrew. Would love to try the Charoset ice cream. Thanks again.
ISO olives - preferably Kalamata - Kosher for Passover
Kvuzat Yavne actually has two versions labeled kalamata olives and they are for Pesach. One is whole, the other sliced. Both are marinated in wine vinegar. They had several different kinds of olives but noticed the kalamata because of the post. Saw these in a local store on Staten Island. Have yet to locate the oil cured.
Barton's chocolate matzos
Thank you everyone. I called Miss Chocolate, turns out they have an outlet store. They are way out on Long Island and too time consuming for me to go but the gentleman I spoke with said they could mail them. They had milk and bittersweet chocolate and were $5 a box or 2 for $9. They charged me $12 for shipping, but my time is way more valuable than that and with the price of gas the 100 mile round trip would cost more than that. So if anyone wants Bartons, try the Miss Chocolate outlet. Thanks to all and Chag Kasher V'Sameach.
Yogurt update
Shoprite in Paramus had strawberry, cherry, and blueberry KLP yogurt yesterday. It was not with the regular yogurt. I was looking for peach and the dairy manager said it was a misprint in the "book" (I assume he is talking about the O-U book). He said it should have said plain, not peach. Also a friend said she found America's Choice which is the house brand for Waldbaums, Pathmark, and A&P. Hope this helps.
HELP: Where can I find Chareidim Shmurah matzah?
It seems to have vanished from stores. Called the factory and they are no longer selling to the public. Told me private families had to order before Purim. Always bought it in stores and never had a problem so never thought to order it direct. Now two weeks until Pesach and I can't find it anywhere. Could anyone suggest a substitute in taste and quality? Used to use Pupa Tzalim but this was better. Help would be most appreciative.
ISO olives - preferably Kalamata - Kosher for Passover
Did you have any luck finding the kalamata olives on Amazon? I could only find the cracked green and no indication they are for Passover. Thanks for the posting. Will call the Brooklyn stores tomorrow.
Barton's chocolate matzos
Can't seem to find a favorite since my children were little. Bartons made chocolate, milk and pareve, chocolate matzo. This wasn't the chocolate covered matzah. This was a square of chocolate with crushed nuts with score lines to look like matzah. Came three to a box. Silver box was milk, blue box was pareve. Amazing Savings had a bunch of Batons but not that. Have no idea who carries Bartons anymore. Usually bought it through a school fund raising sale but no one seems to be doing that anymore. Help finding it would be appreciated.
Kosher Spare ribs at Costco
I have frozen the stuffed cabbage with no problem but I let it defrost before I cook it. Turkey breast not a hit in my house so I never bought it again. As for the ribs, never get a chance to freeze them, as soon as anyone sees them, that's what they want to eat!
Passover soda in cans
Saw Dr. Browns at Paramus Fairway stacked with all the kosher for Passover groceries but when I checked the cans they only had the Kof-K and no P in the bunch. Will try again at the end of the week. Thanks
Passover soda in cans
Thanks. Going to the Jewish supermarkets was a great suggestion.
Bartons Almond Kisses
Did you happen to notice if they had the small boxes, one silver, one blue, of the chocolate matzos? Not the chocolate covered matzah but the small boards of all chocolate with nut pieces. Thanks
Passover soda in cans
Has anyone seen kosher for Passover soda in cans in the NY/NJ area? Last year I was able to find Pepsi, regular and diet, Dr. Browns and Canada Dry ginger ale. This year can't find a can anywhere. The loves I live with can't stand the bottles claiming it is flat after the first pouring. Please post if you see it and Chag Sameach.
No Dannon for Pesach???????
Don't know about this year but last year my Shoprite had several kosher for Passover flavors for sale under their brand name and my friends told me some of their local stores had it as well. It was the fruit on the bottom kind. As for the brands you can find in the more religious stores Norman's was pretty good also.
Your Favorite Kosher Cookbooks
Didn't know Spice and Spirit was reissued. Checked Amazon and the latest one they have is 1997. Where did you find it? Thanks
Your Favorite Kosher Cookbooks
Is there an address in the Chofetz Chaim Yeshiva's Tuv Tamm cookbook? Is there more than one volume? Do you know if it is still available? Thanks
GLATT Kosher caterer suggestions for my daughter's wedding
Since you already have the place most of the major caterers do offsite. If you want local, speak to Signature Caterers based out of the Young Israel, not positive they do offsite though I think they do. Nice thing about them is that they work with your price point and have lots of ideas.
Passover 2012- What's new?
Okay, okay, I know Purim isn't even here yet but has anyone seen anything interesting, new, and different for Passover 2012?
Signature Caterers by Roz?
I posted awhile ago about Signature caterers and here is an update. Recently attended a Shabbos Bar Mitzvah luncheon, not an easy event for any caterer. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing. I always try to remember that when I attend an event I am experiencing someone else's taste and choices. Roz and Alan are easy to work with and will work within your price point. They listen and do not steer you towards choices more expensive than you are comfortable with. They are certainly worth talking to and sampling for your son's Bar Mitzvah. Mazal Tov and may your son go from strength to strength.
Packaged broth?
I have had good results with the Imagine line. They make a pareve "no chicken" chicken broth that works well in most recipes. For meat dishes I have been using the Manischewitz in the boxes or the cans, not the condensed kind. I have never used Pacific so can't comment on if they are good or bad. Just recently bought some Trader Joe's but haven't used it yet. Most broths are best used as a starter for a richer soup. If you want to sip it plain I would stick with Manischewitz.
kosher symbol hebrew mem with a crown on it
Hey Marty B. Ever see a cup-K. That was not a typo and I do not mean Chof(hebrew letter-K. This was a cup, like a tea cup on its side, with a K next to it. It was on a package of hot dogs I saw at the market while reaching for A & H. So funny. I have to check it out on all the data bases mentioned in these postings. I impress easily as well, but that one was a bit much, even for me.
Hebrew on Pringles cans?
Saw Bimbo bread in Walmart in New Jersey. Had never heard of it before I read it here. Definitely had a Chof-K. Looked like ordinary white bread to me. Haven't tried it. What makes it so special?
Jewish Wedding Venue
Lately it seems if you talk to the caterer, they can find you a place that will accommodate both your number of guests and your religious needs. Check out Alpine caterers in Livingston, NJ or Signature in Staten Island, NY. Both will take your price point and work from there. Unless you have an unlimited budget don't bother with Main Event or Foremost. They are excellent but definitely high end.
New Fruit for Rosh Hashanah
We tried Monstera Deliciosa one year but you have to be careful. Looks like a cucumber with corn kernels. When it is ripe, the kernels start lifting off leaving the fruit exposed. Cut the fruit off the core. Taste is similar to a pineapple maybe mixed with kiwi. Certainly was unusual and definitely new. Chag Sameach. We have done Dragon fruit as well. A trip to an Asian market before Yom Tov always seems to yield a surprise.
new asian noodle bowls
Bought some the last time I ordered from kosher.com. (They were on sale) My son, high school age, liked two of the three bought. Haven't seen the add meat varieties but will definitely chec. them out after Pesach.
What happened to frozen strawberries in syrup for Passover?
Am revisiting this post. Has anyone seen these frozen strawberries found them last year but not in the yellow cups this year? I ultimately found them last year but no luck this year. Are they around?
PROBLEM WITH SOY MILK?!?!!!
Does SILK or anyone else for that matter make a soy milk that is pareve? All the ones I seem to find are dairy. Thanks
Streits Factory on Rivington Street (NYC)
Stop and Shop had spelt matzah and matzah meal. Saw it today.
Kosher for Passover coca cola
Coca Cola hasn't had cans in the tri-state area for a few years. Last year I purchased Pepsi, regular and diet in cans at Moishe's on Ave. M. Tried to go twice this year, couldn't find parking got annoyed and left. Will try again tomorrow with a friend to wait in the car and then we will switch places. Will post if I find it.
PROBLEM WITH SOY MILK?!?!!!
What is Mimiccreme and where do you get it? Is it for Passover or year round or both? Thanks
