New Olive Garden Commercial Just Made Me Nauseous. Literally.

Ew. I havent seen it yet but just the thought hurts my stomach.

It made me think of something my dad said to me last week. "When did bacon become the 'new' lettuce for sandwiches? I cant get veggies on things anymore!" Maybe fried chicken will become the new bread? Ew.

Help: Graduation BBQ for Meat eaters vs. Veg. Heads

I agree about the lentil salad....filling and delish! :) The pulled tofu sounds awesome too! :)

how can I make vegetarian meals seem more like a whole meal

I love a lot of the recipes I get out of Vegan cookbooks because they make me feel like its a "meal" versus tricking my body into thinking it is! My favorite is chickpea cutlets ;) http://www.chow.com/recipes/11364-chi...

Whats your favorite fish sauce?

I guess I should say my hubby bought a very cheap bottle of fish sauce.....to which I think the flavor tastes like boiled fish guts. I assume that a higher quality fish sauce might have a better depth of flavor. or maybe not :)

Whats your favorite fish sauce?

Looking for a good fish sauce to add to my pantry. The stuff my hubby buys at the grocery store is pretty gross so Im convinced there must be a better quality out there. I am willing to go on a hunt to find it, so lay it on me! Thanks :)

Starbuck's fabulous Dark Cherry Mocha .... admit it... you want it.

I *almost* got one yesterday when I was there and now Im disappointed! Guess Ill go back later this week :) Maybe getting it with skim milk would make it a little less of a fat bomb? Or so I like to tell myself! :)

Buffalo Wild Wings???

I think it used to be good about 10 years ago. But the quality of their wings have gone down (or my local one was really good before it got flooded and moved). Some of their appetizers are ok but it is pretty overpriced. You pay for ambiance I guess :)

What do you cook for non-chowhounds?

I was just curious if anyone else comes up with the same situation Im put in with this side of the family. One of the eaters is so picky, he wont even touch bread unless its plain white bread. My DH made homemade buttermilk biscuits and he looked disgusted by them.

I tried a new approach and let them cook a soup because they wanted to. It was the worst thing Ive eaten in a long time.

Oh and when I asked what they like to eat (for examples) I was told "Plain food." Whatever the heck that is. And no cheese. ;) Oh well!

What do you cook for non-chowhounds?

Having a house guest arrive in a few hours who is a "meat and potatoes" person to the point that they eat the same breakfast every morning and won't try anything that’s not “American”. So I’m naturally at a loss on what to cook for my guest. I’m sure I’m not the only one out here with some non-chowhound friends/family. What do you do try to serve them? Do you try to introduce them to new foods/cuisines? Or just throw up your hands and save the truffles and goat cheese for people who appreciate them? :)

As an example...I had a friend take a beautiful bolognese and dump two cans of red marinara sauce into it because she "likes it saucy."

Suggestions on Surviving the Olive Garden? (moved from Manhattan Board)

I know they are premade and frozen but I kind of like the portabella ravioli. They serve it in a pretty fatty sauce but I think its decent. :)

How do you make your gravy?

I had that last year when I was living in Texas. It scared me and my husband since we are from the east coast. It tasted ok.....but I think its a Texas thing :)

What is *the* cookbook for Indian cuisine?

My DH is in love with Indian food. I'd like to get him a cookbook for Christmas he can use to start making his own stuff at home instead of searching for the best Indian in the state. He is an excellent cook so hit me with your best ideas! Thanks!

can I unrefrigerate beer or will it go skunky?

we had a HUGE party and no one drank any of the beer we bought. My hubby moved it from the cooler to the fridge right after the party. But Thanksgiving is approaching and I need the space in the small fridge for things like....oh say the turkey! So if I take it out and let it get warm again will it go bad? Its some good beer like Leffe Blonde and some german stouts.... please help! Thanks!!

Sauce-making technique (bechamel)

ive never heard of pre-heating either....maybe it just helps it come together faster? I know the first time I made bechamel I tried to use skim milk. That was a disaster :) Learned my lesson since then. :)

Not because I think it is too hard to make, so please don't crucify me, BUT

I have to say that the only canned sauce Ive ever used is Old El Paso. They are passable I suppose. But I did want to tell you about this website in case you havent heard of it. The Homesick Texan. There are some recipes on there you might want to make for him :) Like King Ranch Chicken....sigh. I miss Tejas :)

What to pair with for a ragu bolognese?

i guess I should say im using a recipe for bolognese that does not call for wine or milk. Its got capicola, beef, pork, tomatos a-go-go, garlic, mir a pois (or however you spell it), garlic, beef broth and parsley...oh and butter.

What to pair with for a ragu bolognese?

My Dh is making a very robust and tasty bolognese for a dinner party. I am supposed to buy the wine (which is funny). So I thought I would ask some fellow chowhounds, what would you drink with this? And what would be a good desert wine?

Thanks :)
