What the Jester Had For Dinner: Flaming Kabob Cuisine, Mesa AZ

I'm going to have to try Flaming Kabob again since we live in Mesa. We stopped in one day and had only soup and weren't blown away by it. I've been spoiled by a little Middle Eastern place in Papago Plaza at McDowell and Scottsdale Rd. Even though we've been there a half dozen times I never have made a note of its name. The chef is Iraqi and the wait staff are Turkish and the food is outstanding. They have a lunchtime buffet that changes daily with some pretty unusual and exotic choices.

Best Barbeque in PHX

Last year we went to a NC style BBQ at 6929 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale called BBQ Smokehouse. I don't know if it's still there. Restaurant 28 at 5025 W Olive Avenue in Glendale offers NC style also but we haven't tried it. Like the other poster, I think you'll be disappointed around here after having lived in NC. I've been to Wilbur's, Lexington, Allen & Son and a few others and they're hard to beat.

Greek in the Valley?

Thanks everyone for the advice. It sounds nearly unanimous for Greektown and Golden Greek. Since we're planning to be in Glendale Saturday we'll probably try G.G. first and Greektown in the not too distant future.

Greek in the Valley?

Yes we have and it wasn't too bad actually. It's casual. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to you. You get your own drinks. It reminds me of a better than average Greek outlet at a food court.

Greek in the Valley?

Does anyone have a recommendation for good Greek food anywhere in metro Phoenix? Doesn't have to be fancy, just good. Please don't say "My Big Fat Greek Restaurant." It's OK but not what we're looking for. Thanks. Doug

Dooby's Grill - Mesa

Everything at Dooby's is absolutely delicious. Before moving to far east Mesa we used to have lunch there quite often. On the same corner of Dobson and Guadalupe is an Indo Pakistani restaurant named Copper Kettle. They have an interesting menu and fantastic lemonade. Buffet at lunch time. Doug

Cuban food in phoenix

There is a Puerto Rican bakery and restaurant in Mesa on Main St. in the location of the former RB Rib House that makes sandwiches and such similar to what you would find in a Cuban restaurant.

Sugar's BBQ in Embudo between Santa Fe and Taos is for sale! Oh NO!!

We stopped by Sugars last Saturday and had the combo dinner (beef, ribs and links - only on Fri and Sat) and everything was quite good. The cole slaw is better than good. They smoke only with fruit wood, apple at the moment.

Food in & between Phoenix & Las Vegas? Staying @ Mandalay Bay in Vegas for weekend convention in early September.

There is (or was last fall at least) a BBQ joint in Wickiup that we enjoyed, Joe's I think. They had a tasty white bean side dish that we've not had elsewhere. Look to your left as you pass through town and don't blink!

Santa Fe

Recommend the Southwest Chicken Salad at Guadalupe Cafe on Santa Fe Trail. Best salad we've ever had anywhere. One order is more than enough for two and it comes with great homemade bread.
