You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...

Yup... also a good choice and probably less than a mile apart on the other side of the freeway off Ball Rd. They also have the larger bier selection of the two.

I have to added a hardy second for Jagerhaus. It's the best German food I've found in the LA area (like the Angels they're not in LA). An added note is they quite often have some wonderful game dishes as well and a few good German biers.

"Fresh" dried Pinto Beans in Los Angeles?

It may not be quick and easy in LA but when I was living in the area I always tried to plan to get beans from Lompoc Beans <http://lompocbeans.com/>. Loved all there varieties, locally grown. Besides... making the drive up there gave me a good excuse to stop for a wine tasting :-

Cubes to Flavor Ramen Broth

Haven't seen the cubes but my favorite at home quick ramen fix is Sun Noodle that you can get at H-Mart and probably others. In the refrigerated area, they have fresh noodles with three or four different flavors that I've seen including a good one for cold ramen.

What restaurant do you really really really miss that is now closed ?????

The Little Prague on Hollywood Blvd,

This one comes from probably 15 years ago if not more but it was excellent Czech food. Then they moved back to Brno.

What's your favorite restaurant?

Kanda Sushi in Thousand Oaks. Friendly, quite traditional sushi bar and a place with a wide selection that I still know some of the fish only by the Japanese name.

Places w/ TVs to watch Games

One of my faves in OC is Taps Brewpub & Seafood Restaurant. It's at 101 E Imperial Hwy, Brea. It has a wide variety of seafood, steaks and pasta with a wide selection of brew styles.

(714) 257-0101. http://www.tapsbrea.com/. It's Chow worthy both for food and beer. Oh and I originally forgot to add they have a number of TVs with sports on when games are going on.

Best Beer

When I was travelling to LA regularly my best beer places were usually British Pubs such as the Robin Hood Tavern in Van Nuys or the Crown and Anchor in Thousand Oaks.

Nowadays I'm travelling more to OC and have found a variety of good places.

My current favorites are Taps Fish House & Brewery in Brea which always has eight of their biers draft and usually one cask. Their brewmaster Victor makes a wide variety of styles ranging thru English, German, Belgian and American. So far pretty much all of them that I've tried have been true to style.

Other Pubs with good bier selections in that area that I've liked have been The Olde Ship in Fullerton for a good English Pub, Heroes in Fullerton and Yard House in Brea both with hugh selection of drafts.

Is upstate NY ignored by better food chains?

Well... as an alternative to Whole Foods you may want to give Honest Weight Food Coop http://www.hwfc.com/ in Albany a try.

Drinks outside in Lowell???

The first floor will be opening up as the Lowell Beer Works http://www.beerworks.net/. Supposed to be open soon but I haven't been by lately to see the construction progress.
