Recent recommendations in Ogden, UT?

I've recently moved from San Diego, CA, to Ogden, and I'm looking for some 'hound-worthy eats. Granted, there are slim pickins here in Ogden. That said, any restaurants worth checking out? We've enjoyed Tona sushi on 25th very much. We've eaten at Slackwater and Roosters, and they were passable. We've also had Mexican food at Patricia's Restaurant, which was highly rated on Yelp. Patricia's was a terrible disappointment, and I don't think it was only because SD set a high bar! That food was just bad.

I've read the recommendations from the last few years, and I was just wondering if there are any new ones the locals can suggest. Thanks!

Recommendations for tasty and fresh veggie pizza?

Zia Pizza in Normal Heights offers whole wheat crust and a lot of veggie options. They do really unique pizzas with a special spicy yogurt sauce that's really delicious.

Business Dinner Recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for a group of 10-15 professionals for dinner. We'll be in Las Vegas for a convention and are taking some of our associates out to dinner. We're looking for something under $100/head and close to Mandalay Bay.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

have you noticed ben & jerry's quality going downhill? espcially the classic flavors?

Can't speak for the classic flavors, but I tried their Boston Cream Pie flavor and it was awful.

Oh, and I'll be staying in the Perimeter area at the Westin at 7 Concourse. Looks like it's near the Perimeter Mall.

Perimeter dinner?

Hi, I'm traveling on business to Atlanta for a few days and looking for a dinner recommendation. I like everything that's good, so no specific cuisine requests. Just fresh, delicious, creative food. Money not a concern. Thanks!

I just read about these in the NYT. Does anyone know of a place in San Diego that sells them? Thanks!

Lunch in Bethesda?

I've seen a couple of posts about this, but nothing too comprehensive. I'm in Bethesda for two days on business, staying at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda Metro Center. I'm looking for a delicious place for lunch, preferably French or Italian (but open to anything really), and cost is not an issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

In Chicago for 2 nights

You're correct, I'm more interested in a new/creative scene. And the reason I didn't specify preferences/price point is that I'm very open to anything, just looking for somewhere close to my hotel. I'm traveling on business, so much of my food cost will be expensed. Thanks!

Is Uno pizza the same chain that's elsewhere in the country (I'm in San Diego)? I'd love to try authentic Chicago pizza and am skeptical of the chain. Thanks!

In Chicago for 2 nights

I'm coming to Chicago next week on business for two nights and need recommendations for dinner. Expense isn't an issue, just looking for really delicious food. I'm staying on at the Westin on Michigan Avenue, across from Bloomingdale's. I won't have a car, so I'm looking for something within walking distance.

I like everything! I've heard such grand rumors about the Chicago dining scene and want to take advantage while I'm there. Thanks!

If you could wear your food as perfume...

The way my hands smell after rolling out snickerdoodles. Sweet, buttery, and cinnamony.

Dipping sauce for calamari?

In Boston for 4 Days

I'm traveling to Boston for four days and staying at the Hyatt Harborside. I'm looking for unique, Boston-style restaurants for various meals. Any suggestions? I like everything and am willing to splurge for the right meal. Already pegged Neptune as a destination.

Any suggestions for cocktail lounges/bars are welcome too.

Thanks!

Gold apples

I've read that a lot of people really like Golden Delicious and Ginger Gold apples. I had my first Ginger Gold today and dumped it after two bites. It was reminiscent of Golden Delicious in its bland flavor and mealy, mushy texture.

What am I missing? I'm on the West coast, and I've heard that Golden Deliciouses are superior on the East coast. Can anyone fill me in?

By the way, I used to be a Gala muncher, but recently I'm all about the Honeycrisps. I think they're the best apple on the planet for out-of-hand eating. For baking, I stick to Granny Smiths.

Thanks!

My egg dilema

Grade AA eggs are superior to A eggs. However, it's unlikely that the description on the carton applies to the eggs they're selling. I buy Curtis Womach's eggs at the Hillcrest FM when he has them (he sells out quickly), and the cartons, if any, are random leftovers or brought in by other customers. I usually bring my own cartons to pack the eggs or he packages them in a paper bag.

It's possible that the eggs you bought were less fresh, as the older they get, the more the shells and the albumen weaken.

Difference between a salsa, a salad dressing and a sauce.

Bearnaise is based on hollandaise, not the other way around. Bearnaise is a hollandaise with shallots, chervil, and tarragon. :)

best dog friendly resturants in Hillcrest/North Park/South Park?

Parkhouse Eatery (University Heights), Farmhouse Cafe (University Heights), Ranchos (North Park) all allow dogs. Zia Pizza in Normal Heights is a casual pizza place with a few tables outside that allows dogs. You can also bring dogs to Pizzeria Bruno Napoletano (Uni Heights).

MIHO Gastrotruck

Miho is parked outside my office on Fridays, and I've eaten there three times. I've had the pork tacos, croquetas, the burger, watermelon salad, and the MLT sandwich.

Everything I've had has been outstanding. Really tasty, prepared with care and attention to detail. The burger and the sandwich both held together well and didn't make a mess of my hands. The croquetas were crispy, hot, and well seasoned. The aioli was clearly housemade, and not doctored-up Best Foods. My favorite dish has been the MLT (mozz, lettuce, tomato sandwich).

I really like this truck and I hope they stick around.

Tip Top Meats

Thanks for the info, bizz. I always thought prime had to be prime, otherwise it was misleading.

Maybe I'll go easier on the place...

Tip Top Meats

Granted, this was several years ago, so they may have another butcher behind the counter. But one guy turned me off of Tip Top Meats forever.

I was looking for a rib roast for a dinner I was catering. It was labeled Prime Rib, and I asked the guy if it was actually prime.

Him: "That's just what the cut's called."
Me: "Uh, isn't prime a grade established by the USDA?"
Him: "No, that's just a prime rib."
Me: "Thanks, never mind."

Tipping Homeless "Helpers"

I didn't mean to suggest that not giving someone money equals condemnation. I think not looking someone in the eye or saying thank you when they open a door for you indicates latent condemnation for that person's circumstances. Just as I don't judge homeless people for their social status, neither do I judge someone for choosing not to give them money. But I do judge people for blatantly rude behavior.

Tipping Homeless "Helpers"

I'm also astounded by people's self-righteousness and lack of compassion. Those of us lucky enough to have comfortable lifestyles don't know the personal histories of these people who huddle in doorways and alleys. We don't know what led them to lose their homes and the ability to function "normally" in society. And, personally, I don't think it's my place to judge them. It doesn't hurt me to smile, look someone in the eye, say thank you, and give them a few bucks if I have it. They're probably going to appreciate whatever they buy with those few bucks, be it coffee, food, booze, or drugs, more than I would have. They have enough misery and discomfort in their lives as it is without additional condemnation from me.
