Pho Thai Lao in Maywood Thoughts

I love the food here. I go back almost once a week. It really is like you are eating in a thai mother's kitchen. There really is a thai mother in the kitchen and everyone is really very friendly. The food is fresh and made as you order it. Perhaps give it a try and see what you think.

Maywood

There is an awesome new thai place on Maywood ave called Pho Thai Lao kitchen. It's like delicious home cooked thai food. Please give it a try!!

I can say I am a fan of Pho Thai Lao in Maywood! I still prefer Pimaan a bit more but the food is great, very well priced, and the servers are super friendly. Now if they would get some massuman curry I would be in heaven.

Just mind the spice level! A three is pretty spicy!

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

It was my brother's wedding and the food was AWESOME although the cocktail hour food was better than dinner!!! The venetian was very attentive to every detail and even let guests etc take home uneaten desserts. My brother lucked out with an open date so they really got a good deal... the amount of food was ridiculous

Chinese, Thai, Indian in/near Maywood NJ

Pad Thai, massuman Curry, thom yum soup, green curry. Pretty much basic thai that should be great all the time. I find it lacking in flavor and at times greasy. Just goes to show you everyone has their taste. I feel that they have really americanized their food.

Well it has been a while and I have tried wondee's three times. I still think it's passable at best. I keep driving to Pimaan in emerson when I need thai. As for the suggestion of panda on essex st thanks! It's decent take out.

My next goal is pizza and bagels :x

best supermarket meat dept. in Bergen County

It doesn't have to be food related. We have a jewelry store and we got a restaurant depot card with the ein.

I love Pimaan. It is my fave thai place. I was just hoping for a 10 min ride to a new joint. Have you guys tried Rocca in Glen Rock for a somewhat upscale dinner? It is pretty good (stay away from the typical chicken parm etc and you will be impressed).

Hudson house in Nyack, NY

I have been to Velo and it is great. I did go to the Hudson House last night and I have to say it was better than I remember. Everything was delicious (I haven't had perfectly cooked scallops in ages) and service was immpeccable! Dessert was the clincher. My only complaint was that it was very noisy but, we expected this on a Saturday night. Next time we will head there on a weekend.

Best Food in Bergen Co, NJ

Bailys BBQ is awesome!!! I love their corn souffle!

Rocca in Glen Rock is another favorite for italian

Maywood

I moved to maywood recently and have been trying various food places nearby. If you want pizza avoid the downtown pizza shops (Mario's is ok for food). Also, the bakery is not so great. The crumb cake I recently bought was stale. The peruvian chicken place is very good though!

Well Everyone thanks for the input! The wedding is going to be at the Venetian as they gave a fantastic deal! I hope the food is as good as I've heard!

Best Produce in Bergen County

Bumping up- Abma's farm is awesome though a bit pricey. They grow much of the produce in season. Also check out Demarest farm in season. Fairway market in fort lee (not part of the chain) also has great produce

Where to buy Servil Blanc wine in Bergen County

There is a wine shop in Tappan NY (on the nj border) called Grape D'vine. He has a great selection and fair prices. If he doesn't have what you are looking for he does try to get it for you. Perhaps give him a try?

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some Ideas for wedding venues in Northern NJ or Rockland County, NY. So far I keep getting recommendations for the Brownstone based on food quality but I was not impressed with the facility itself.

Requirments:
room for 250 people
REALLY good food
Would love to keep it around 130pp with everything included (this is why I am still considering the brownstone) but it's ok if the avg. price is higher.
It doesn't have to be a typical "hall" I'm open to unique locations as well.

Thanks in advance!

Rec for dinner in Bergen County?

If you like fish I would suggest Varka's in Ramsey. It is a greek style fish house and the food is great! It is a little pricey but worth it! I would go on a weds night as weekends are BUSY (it has become a popular place)

Chinese, Thai, Indian in/near Maywood NJ

Hi everyone-

I just moved to Maywood NJ and I'm looking for a really good chinese takeout joint. It is my favorite "fast food" and everywhere I have tried so far is a let down.

Are there any good Thai and Indian places around ... or even any must try eats of any cuisine?

Thanks!!!!

Best Bakery in Northwest Bergen County (i.e. Ridgewood area)

There isn't a huge variety but the rolling pin cafe in westwood has great desserts. He makes them all there and the scones are awesome!!

If you want a french bakery nothing beats didier dumas in nyack (not in BC I know)!

There is always carousel bakery in rockland county which isn't too far

Anyone been to La vineria?

I was wondering if anyone had heard of a restaurant called la vineria? I believe it is on w 55th? I am looking for a small cozy italian place in that area with good food (ie not everything is drowning in red sauce) and good wine. Any suggestions? Price is really a deciding factor

What is wrong with using commercial Pectin in Jams?

Thanks for the input. I guess I was most worried about spoilage on low sugar jams if there was no pectin but I guess I will experiment and see what happens :)

What is wrong with using commercial Pectin in Jams?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any jam makers out there could help me out. I am new to making jams (and to these boards) and I was wondering why people have such a negative attitude towards natural powder pectins. I want to start jamming our local fruits and would like to make enough to get through the winter( we are jam nuts). Both my parents are diabetic and the old recipes I have from my grandmother require a lot of sugar to preserve them. I wanted to use the low sugar pectin so that my parents can enjoy the jams too, but after doing some research I'm skeptical. If I take my old recipes and lesson the sugar will they still keep through the winter.

Oh and I properly hot water can everything.

Thanks for your input in advance!
