Searching for best breakfast in Athens

I think I have had breakfast/brunch at just about every place in the Athens area, just wondering what y'all think is the best around. For my money, the best biscuit is a bacon egg & cheese from Mama Shug's in Winterville, and the grits @ the Grit are hard to beat.

Thanks, I didn't find that thread in a search.

Lexinton to Louisville

I have enjoyed several meals @ the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, about 30 min from Lexington & about an hr from Louisville. Good fried chicken, country ham, hot browns.

Not sure about the Inn part of it, have never stayed there, but the properties are very cool, 150+ yr old buildings.

I just stumbled upon the website of this glorious product called Baconsalt. I haven't had the pleasure of trying this product yet, but surely some of my southern brethren have discovered this seasoning that supposedly makes everything taste like BACON!

O'Hara's in Madison GA

The wife and I had a wonderful lunch yesterday in Madison GA (30 min south of Athens, 1 hr east of Atlanta) and just wanted to share with the board.

It appears that the menu changes slightly daily, but I started with a wonderful, rich, creamy bowl of she crab soup. I then had the omelette of the day, which was filled with ham, spinach & smoked gouda cheese. It was great. My wife had the PEI Mussels, which were great as well. Served with a ciabatta-style bread, there had to have been 15 or more mussels in the bowl (and it was on the appetizer menu,) and had a great white wine sauce filled with andouille and sweet corn. Delicious.

They also have fresh seafood and steaks in a case in the front, like a meat market.

Overall, it was a very good experience, and we will certainly return.

Hilton Head Island, SC good eats?

OK. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here. The reason I posted this is because I did a search for "Hilton Head" and here are the dates of the last post in the 1st 15 search results:
Dec 7 2007, May 3 2002, June 13 2002, Sep 30 2007, May 31 2007,
July 13, 2003, Feb 9, 2008, etc.

Only 1 out of the 1st 15 results contained a response from June 2008. Which was your response to a thread started in October 2007.

Hilton Head Island, SC good eats?

Lots of threads from 2007 and before. And most are full of opinions about Bluffton and Savannah places too, that wasn't really what I was looking for. But thanks anyway, I'll do some sleuthing.

Hilton Head Island, SC good eats?

Spending a few days @ the beach in Hilton Head Island, looking for some recommendations for all meals. Not looking for fine dining, just good local places. We have been to Skillets for dinner & Stacks for breakfast, enjoyed both of them thoroughly. Any other places worth recommending? Thanks!

A few days in Hanover, NH!

Sorry, just a misunderstanding! I really had no preference for style of place or degree of fine dining, I was just looking for good, local places to eat that weren't Applebee's or Dunkin Donuts. I appreciate all of the recommendations and can't wait to visit.

A few days in Hanover, NH!

Because you worded it that way, I'm guessing that you are someone who just cannot experience great dining in a coffee shop or diner or what you might consider a pedestrian joint. And I kinda feel bad for you if you need a chef for a great dining experience. I can enjoy a sausage dog from an Athens GA street vendor as much as I can a meal of medjool dates, imported cheese, and squab at nationally renowned chef Hugh Acheson's Five and Ten here in Athens.

Thanks to those who have given me all sorts of local places to go, I look forward to my trip. All I asked for was local places and for the most part, you obliged.

A few days in Hanover, NH!

Coming up from GA for a conference held @ Dartmouth in July, and am actively seeking recommendations on where to find some great local foods. Where should a southern boy go in a New England college town?

about 3 miles from the interstate in downtown Perry, GA is the Swanson House. Best salmon croquettes I've had.

Southern Hot Dog Quest (SHDQ)

Monroe's Hotdogs & Billiards
318 W Lamar St
Americus, GA

The absolute greatest dawg ever bitten by man. Chili, cheese, slaw, onions, you name it. They also have a special "scrambled dog" that has all that in a big styrofoam bowl. I usually bring a dozen or so chili dogs back to Athens with me from when I go down that way to visit family. Usually 8 or 9 remain by the time I actually get to Athens.

And they have gravy fries.
