Grace Young's Cookbooks

Hey fellow chowhounders, I've been lurking the boards looking for a great Chinese cookbook to add more dishes to my repertoire, and Young's cookbooks often come up as suggestions. Now I've noticed that "Stir-Frying to the Sky's Edge" is recommended a lot and Amazon has them in stock (I'm from Australia) but when I looked my local bookshops they would never have it in stock for me to have a look-see.

The only one they have is "Breath of a Wok" and whilst i think this is a great book, I'm just trying to see the differences between the both as both I presume are focused on stir-fried Chinese dishes. Wondering if there is anyone that has both and can shed some light on the differences.

Thanks a lot!

[Melbourne] CBD lunch recs

I like Yu-u down at Flinders Lane, very tasty, authentic Japanese food, last time I went there it was an $18 set? The ambience of the place is also excellent. Another option is Oyster Little Bourke has a 2 set course meal for $30 with a free glass of wine, excellent value.

Hey Chowhounders, I'm looking for a babi guling recipe, and in Google there was quite a lot but I'm not sure as most of them has no comments anything. Has anyone got one that they've used before or has been given one that a friend's used? It'd great help!

Thanks a lot!

Planning an anniversary...

The budget is well, limitless, but I don't want it to cost a fortune. They love asian foods, specifically spicy ones but when I tend to make something greasy they really don't like that.. It does seem like buffet style is better, but I just don't like the notion of leaving food out. If I do do plate dinners, even with 2 or 3 helpers.. will it still be pain?

Who makes the best "burger with the lot"?

Totally agreed. Me and my friend went an 4 hour return bus ride for it. TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Planning an anniversary...

Next month is my parents' 20th anniversary and instead of going out, me and a couple of friends and gonna plan it and basically cater for 30 people. I'm just looking for some suggestions for recipes to feed this many people with a simple kitchen.. I have had cooking experience, I just haven't cooked for more than ten people at once. Anyone got any ideas?

Looking for a fast food joint...

Hey guys, in the winter I visited Tokyo, and we would often find ourselves lost and hungry, we would often stop by this fast food chain that was EVERYWHERE. I can't remember what its called but it served beef and pork bowls with kimchi, it wasn't yoshinoya and I remember the symbol being two dots inside one another. Can anyone help me? I need to work out what it's called.

Expert Hard-Boiled Eggs

I agree with flyinggeese. 12 minutes is far too long. 8 minutes is my preferred time.

Eating with children in Tokyo's fine restaurants

I was wandering as I am travelling to Japan in the winter (9th of January ~ 19th) what the situtation is with dining at a fine restaurant with a child. We're bringing my sister who is 10 years old and wanted to dine at one of Tokyo's fine dining restaurants. Also, we looked into Ryugin and the prices are around 23,000 (!) pp. Is there another restaurant of similar quality that is.. lower than that price range (10~12,000 yen/p) that we can be informed of?

Thanks!

Where to eat in Bali - Manggis and Seminyak?

Jimbaran Bay seafood is excellent, but you have to be careful in which one to choose. We've been there 5 times. 3 of those times were wonderful, but the other 2 was just very below average. Ask your taxi driver which one he recommends. Ibu Oka is excellent and is often regarded as "the best" but its a bit of a long drive and have to get there quite early because it sells out pretty fast (even though the sell about 3 pigs a day!) . Get on a scooter and go there and enjoy the journey if you're really keen to get "the best". Nevertheless, some babi guling in Seminyak are excellent. Just look for the really shoddy places ;)
