Best gastropub?

Not sure if they classify as gastropubs but both Stoddards and Scholars have a decent craft beer selection

Hamantaschen in Boston/Metrowest?

Surprisingly, we found the cookie type Hamantaschen at BJs in Salem, NH that were actually pretty good. The cookie was the right texture and sweetness and the fillings (raspberry, apricot and poppyseed) were ok.

Interestingly, they were displayed right beside an apple cake labeled "Jewish" apple cake...not sure why it was labeled that, it looked like an regular apple cake to us.

Ice Cream Recommendations in Merrimack Valley?

There's also Jay Gee's in Methuen. The have a large variety of flavors that I believe are made on the premises. Like Benson they also do a lot with fruit flavors. Their Peach pie is and blueberry are our favorites. Their prices are reasonable compared to Kimball or Bensons. They have mini golf, batting cages and 2 go cart tracks as well.

Lowell area recs, off of 495?

Though not right off 495 - Centro in Lowell might fit the bill. There's also Yella in Andover for Mediterranean (though not sure about the cocktaisl). For Asian you could try Fung Shui in Chelmsford (right off 495)

lunch in Andover (Shawsheen Village)

If you're looking for take out Mediterranean, try Jim's Kabob on Merrimack St. in Lawrence. They do a good Falafel pita. It's a pretty quick drive from Shawsheen Village

Middle eastern in Andover where Cassis used to be?

I've had lunch there twice having different sandwich options. The babaganouj wrap was flavorful and good size. Also the chicken griddler was good but not remarkable. Both around $8 -$9. While looking at the menu they give you complementary homemade pita chips and hummus. The decor is warmer than when Cassis was there but the small room can get quite noisy when full. it is owned and run by a lovely couple and the husband is the chef and the wife serves as hostess and is very solicitous without being pushy. Both times at lunch time they were busy and they told me that they've had to turn away people at dinner on the weekends so be sure to make reservations. I will definitely be back to support an independent restaurant and I hope they do well.

Breakfast-Lawrence-Tewksbury-Andover, MA

I've alway found the Shawsheen Luncheonette good but over priced. There's also the Lantern Grill and Boston King Cafe and Grill both in Andover.

King's Deli on rt 38 in Tewksbury is a cafeteria style short order grill that has a complete breakfast offering nothing fancy but you can get your fill of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, etc.

If you're willing to go up to Salem NH , Maddie's Bagel and Eatery has great food, great service , great prices

Vlora

We had dinner at Vlora last Friday night around 8:30. There didn’t seem to be any left over affects from the New Years Eve incident. The crowd was well behavior (no knife fights) and the service was excellent. We each order a glass of wine (one white, one red), they brought out the bottles and had us taste it before filling the glasses to check if we approved. The even gave us a free desert for my DG’s Bday. We had the salmon and tuna entries, both very good including the sides. As an app we had the watermelon and feta salad. Though skeptical at first, it was excellent. Who would of thought feta and watermelon go together.

Where do you go for quick lunches around downtown crossing?(assuming you work in the neighborhood)

A place that seems to get overlooked on the board is Delicato Cafe on City Hall Ave. A good spot to grab soup, sandwich or a warm entree. Entrees and salad specials change daily.

Looking For Recommendations in the Hamden/North Haven Area

Taking out a starving college student this weekend who has requested Chinese and Italian food. Especially likes scallion pancakes and Chicken Parm. Restaurants do not need to be overly fancy, but would prefer something nice as this is a semi special occasion

Kreuger's Flatbread in Haverhill

We went to Krueger's Saturday night and it was pretty disappointing. Though the pies are baked in a brick oven the crust didn't have much flavor to it . Also the selections of pies are limited, and they don't offer toppings to create your own. We had a Cesar salad pizza (chicken Cesar salad on top of a pie) and a half three cheese (one of which was cheddar) and half mushroom, sausage and caramelized onion which both weren't very memorable. We've been to the Flatbread in Portland, and I believe the one in Amesbury is run by the same folks and makes a much better pie.

Haverhill help?

There's Mootone near the Andover train station - I was there about a year ago - Good selections of sushi, rolls and salads. Though it did seem a little smokey from the Teppanyaki tables in the back

Brunch in Waltham area?

I'm meeting up with the extend family in the Waltham area, and am looking for a place to have brunch for about 10 people. Since some are veggies, a place that had decent eggs, crepes, waffles, pastas etc. along with the typical brunch meats would be appreciated.

Andover, MA-area restaurant rec for Company function?

Dylan's in is Downtown Andover on Park St. (next to Old Town Hall).

We haven't been to Palmer's lately but had a sit down lunch for 60 people about 5 years ago and the food was good.

Andover, MA-area restaurant rec for Company function?

Some suggestions that are a little more casual than what you've done before are:
Dylan's(pub style food)has a private room upstairs. The Chateau (Italian)has several private rooms.

You may also try Palmer's which is more upscale food. Ask if they would let you have the upstairs area.

Andover Inn was recently taken over by new management and was totally renovated. Haven't been there yet but believe they have a website.
