Why aren't we talking about Biercamp in A2? [Ann Arbor, MI]
I'll talk about Biercamp in A2. I've made three trips; the most recent just last week. Biercamp are artisans -- very high quality and delicious items; and judicious with flavoring and salt so that the flavor of the meat rules. From the home-smoked bacon; to the craft-made canadian bacon; to the hot dogs and hunter sticks -- it's all real and all very, very well done. Oh, yeah ... jerky is also first rate. Plus, you can taste anything you want. Don't miss it. Biercamp is worth the drive to Ann Arbor.
Fork In The Road Location in Lansing?
Fork in the Road is top flight, right out of the drawer. Have eaten there three times in its first 10 days, and it is superb. The team has created a solid menu - think upscale, creative diner, complete with smoker. No one around here is doing food like this. An immediate notch-up to Lansing's new cuisine scene. Jesse and Benny have arrived on wheels; but their food soars.
Fine Dining in East Lansing?
Sansu, hands down.

Looking for a great vietnamese restaurant in Lansing, MI
Thai Princess on Central Park in Okemos opened a few weeks ago, and is an elegant, cozy and upscale Thai eatery with excellent food, robust flavors, a wide variety of dishes you will not find in other Thai places around here, plus professional and friendly service. The owners invested quite a bit in the decor, which bodes well for their commitment to quality in the restaurant. Thai Princess takes it up a notch in the Lansing area.
Best Cheese Steak (Philly) in Michigan
JP: the East Lansing Stateside Deli is larger, with a more extensive menu than the other great Stateside location on Okemos Road. I don't believe the Okemos location has the Philly or the extended menu, but for the classic deli treats, Okemos also rocks! JR
Best Cheese Steak (Philly) in Michigan
Two NEW in Lansing, both approved by a Philly native and foodie: [1] Stateside Deli on Grand River in East Lansing has a great cheese steak (using authentic rolls from Philadelphia) as well as killer corned beef on A+ twice-baked rye; and [2] Lenny's, just opened on Washington Square downtown Lansing with another delicious offering (try the hot red relish for a winning add-on). Both are very worthy entries and will leave you wanting more.
Best Corned Beef Sandwich in Michigan...
Not to take anything away from Zingermans, but newcomer State Side Deli, in Okemos, with it's new location in East Lansing, makes an excellent corned beef. State Side's rye bread is twice-baked and just perfect. Service is great; the owner, Spencer, is usually on the scene ensuring excellent customer service. Not to be missed if you're looking for great taste, quality, and authenticity.

Pickles of the Great Lakes!
Don Herman's, available fresh and cold only in the Cleveland area, are one amazing pickle. No one makes anything like them. Cloudy, not clear, brine, attests to the craft-made quality. They almost have an effervescence, which gives these babies a delightful flavor. If you get near Cleveland, grab a few jars and savor them. As good as Topors, McClures, and others may be, Don Herman's are entirely different, and take the prize. GET SOME! http://www.hermannpicklecompany.com/
New Buffalo Mich - Looking for a great bakery and other good eats
This should fit the bill perfectly: the Swedish Bakery in nearby Harbert. A regional legend for probably at least 50 years. Used to go here as a kid vacationing in Michiana. http://www.harbertswedishbakery.com/harbertswedishbakery.html
Lunch After Noon Arrival At DTW?
If you're passing Ann Arbor, and appreciate deli food, then you just have to stop at Zingerman's, which is generally reputed to be the best in the country. Visit the website first. They also own Zingerman's Road House, also in Ann Arbor, which is American comfort food and also excellent, but a real restaurant and not simply a deli. You won't go wrong in either place.
Have any experience(s) at Cinco Lagos, Milford, MI?
Visited a few weeks ago. Concept is admirable. Execution is not. Service fair. Food lacked quality control. Enchilada sauce was so bitter it was inedible, but took 15 mins for waiter to return to get the complaint.. Waitstaff didn't understand, then returned from the kitchen to advise that cooks had dumped too much of something into the batch but didn't realize it (they don't taste??). This is simply an unacceptable mistake. Have NEVER had this in any restaurant, let alone one that specializes in the genre. Not worth an hour drive. Not even worth walking across the street UNLESS this was an aberration. Would be interested in hearing from others, as I don't like to be disappointed in the face of such good expectations.
Good dining in East Lansing?
Glad you enjoyed Mumbai. Hope Sansu also was worth the trip, as it always is for us. Most of all, hope you enjoyed East Lansing, and that the play was well received.
Good dining in East Lansing?
Sansu, top-of-the-line sushi and other great stuff, 3 minutes from Wharton Center.
Mumbai, excellent Indian, downtown East Lansing.
Both run by long-established restauranteurs with focus on quality, taste and service.
You can travel the world and not beat either for what they do.
Your Great Lakes Restaurant that you would take on a deserted island!'
Sansu in East Lansing ... sushi at the top of its form ... always dependable ... always delicious ... quality shows.

SE Michigan - Jaeger Schnitzel
Mediteran, a Bosnian restaurant on S. Washington Sq. in Lansing, has wonderful Jager Schnitzel regularly, often as lunch specials. The owners are authentics, and have opened a wonderful little oasis just a few moments walk from the Capitol Building. In addition to great entrees, the owners make delicious pastries. Here's the contact info: 333 S Washington Sq Lansing, MI 48913 (517) 372-1072
Does anyone know where I can buy julekake or limpa in SEMichigan?
How about southWEST Michigan? There's a fabled Swedish bakery in Harbert, not far from the Indiana border off I-94, that has been around for decades, and is exactly what you are looking for. Perhaps they ship? Or perhaps you feel like taking a ride (it's worth it.) Here's the link: http://www.harbertswedishbakery.com/theswedishbakery.html .
And if you do make the ride, try stopping along the way at The Chocolate Garden (just two miles off I-94), and at Drier's Meats (in Three Rivers).
Dim Sum in Detroit area
If you are able to get to East Lansing, Golden Wok on Grand River, east of campus, has dim sum, "a la cart", every weekend. Their dim sum adds up.
Red Hot Lovers, Ann Arbor; any update?
It's open. Son went Saturday. Complained that the new decor is too nice, and not funky enough for the nostalgic. The owner simply said: "Try the food." Son did.
Guy was right. New name; same wonderful dogs.
You CAN teach an old dog new tricks.
Charlevoix Mi seafood
If you want a GREAT Michigan seafood dinner in Charlevoix, try Terry's Place, downtown. Walleye, Whitefish, Perch are all fresh, and made-to-order in a variety of classic presentations, each delicious. including Grenoboise, Muniere, etc.. Terry's is a small, immaculate, charming venue, worth a wait outside if necessary. If you venture a bit further from Charlevoix, almost to Boyne City, try Monte Bianco, for the parmesan-crusted walleye. Well worth the trip. Can't miss either place.
chocolate chip cookies
Delicious tho Great Harvest cookies may be, there's gotta be a pound of butter in each one. Never had a cookie with so much grease. On the other hand, why have any other cookies when you can have this one?
Lansing on Sunday, July 5
If your plans change, consider India Palace ... it is really a treat ... my wife, who until now only grudgingly chose Indian food, accepted my "Fathers' Day prerogative" and we went to India Palace. She is now an enthusiastic fan. The owner, Paddy Rawal, is veteran restauranteur, and goes out of his way to make this a cuisine experience. He will personally greet you and stop by your table frequently. Since he has recently take over the restaurant and word is just getting out, you won't have to wait for a table. Guaranteed palate pleaser, and not the ordinary.
Lansing Michigan
Nsxtasy and others:
If you want a new, very good big city-class deli that passes the corned-beef sandwich acid test, and you're willing to drive to Okemos (which you should be if you're seious), try State Side Deli on the west side of Okemos Road, just north of Jolly. State Side is in the same center anchored at one end by Starbucks, and on the other end by Grand Traverse Pie, with Stillwater Grill at the corner in the middle. It is as close as we come to a Detroit-style Jewish Deli. Corned beef and pastrami are very good; rye is double-baked; they have Dr Brown's Soda, as well as 7-layer cake. Hanging salamis tell you they're serious about meeting your expectations.
If you have big-city taste for a very good corned beef sandwich, this is your bet and worth the drive (short of Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, or the Stage in Farmington, both of which are also worth the drive but much further. The staff there wants you HAPPY, and knows how to schmooze to make sure you are.
If you was a decent corned beef sandwich closer to you, there is also Amici's Deli near Frandor. It's good enough quality corned beef; and generous, but the bread isn't the same as you will be used to despite being good enough. I've run over there from my office near the Capitol in Lansing on occasion for a quick carry-out and I've always enjoyed it. But it's not a real deli.
If you're only satisfied with a Chicago/NYC/LA deli spectacle, Lansing won't be it, but it will hit the sweet spot for authenticity of the food.
Finally, if you haven't taken the time to go to Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, you have thus far missed what may be the best of the best of the delis in the USA. Do your homework before you go, and cover the complete sandwich menu because deciding is not for the faint of heart, so incredible are the offerings.
Food up!

Yes, Professor, a lesson well taught: Golden Fruit Raisin Biscuits clearly outperformed, especially compared to their cost. They were a delicacy and we need them back.
