best margaritas
A tip for you home mixers...get key limes from Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie shop in Red Hook. They make incredible drinks!!
Is the quality of the food at Lucali dipping?
My problem with Lucali has always been the lack of consistency. I've gotten great pies from there and mediocre pies from there, sometimes both on the same night. No excuse for this. I excuse DiFara's for this simply because of Dom's age.
best sicilian (square) pizza pie in ny/nj?
Finally went to L&B with my law partner and his wife. They are both from Italy and love pizza. Their favorite is Luzzo. Anyway, we hated just about everything we tried there. Pizzas, mussels, antipasto. I really don't understand how/why this place gets raves.
The Great Westvleteren 12 Quest
Once found it in Bklyn for $7. Stupid me. Only got one bottle to try. Should have cleared all 5-6 bottles that they had.
Indian Dessert -- Basundi?
You're probably referring to Basudi. Very similar is Dood (milk) Pak which also has rice in it. Your best bet will be to check out the Indian places in Jackson Heights. Ask around for the Gujarati establishments.
Luna Rossa
I went there with friends who were pizza lovers from Italy. None of us were terribly impressed with the pizza there. They much preferred the pizza at Lucali. It wasn't bad at all but it wasn't worth the trip. If you live nearby, its better than ordering from My Little Pizzeria or something.
Beer with pizza
Brooklyn Lager is my favorite with pizza, if you can get it where you live.
Fresh sugarcane juice in NYC
The Indian area in Jackson Heights has several places that offer what you are looking for.
Singas Famous Pizza is opening in Sunnyside
I enjoy Singas pizza. As an Indian, its more of a cultural thing. I can verify that its extremely popular among south asians. I lived in NYC briefly as a little kid and had lots of it. Even when we lived very far away, my family would have it when we visited NYC. I much prefer Difara's and other classic pizzas, but a onion and pepper Singas pizza still appeals to me now and then. Couldn't tell you why we like it so much though.
I have been to the ones that opened on Livingston St. and Columbia Street in Brooklyn. Horrible. Wasn't the same pizza at all. The big difference was that the "oven" was a conveyor belt operation. The main locations don't do that and have proper ovens.
On the hunt for an Indian specialty
I believe that the Balucci's chain should have what you're looking for. They're all over the place. Lunch is half price, BTW.
Di Fara Questions
The most important thing of all is to call beforehand and make sure that he's open at that time. It would be a disaster if he opens at noon, which I think he might.
