Max Burger-West Hartford Center
I absolutely agree!!!! Same exact experience and order.
Sicilian pizza in Hartford area?
You could also try Lena's Pizza on Park Street on the Hartford / West Hartford line.
Old Saybrook Area Recs.
I almost forgot, on our way back, we stopped at Lobster Landing. It was good. Definitely worth a try. A little too much bread on the lobster roll, but well worth the money...
Old Saybrook Area Recs.
Just got back and tried a few new ones. Thanks for the recs...
1) Alfornio - Expensive, but great looking restaurant and menu. Service was great. Ordered Pizza with a Veal/Ricotta meatball. Everything was excellent except for the sauce. It seemed flavorless and watery. Cheese and crust were perfect.
2) Penny Lane Pub - Average. Tight quarters and an old Irish Pub feel. A little pricey. Food was decent but not memorable. A good place for a pub / drink, but we were with kids.
3) Samurai - Went on a Tuesday for the 1/2 price sushi. Decent sushi and well worth it for the price. Also ordered some other dishes off the menu. Generaltso's Shrimp which had ZERO spice and the shrimp with Walnuts which was decent at best. I also ordered Buffalo Chicken dumplings which were horrible. The service was confusing. Each dish arrived when it was done, which meant at different times. The shrimp dishes first. Five minutes later, the sushi. Then about 8 minutes after that, my son's Chicken Hibachi. The appetizer showed up 15 minutes after that. I noticed this going on at other tables as well. Also, the sushi came with NO dishes for soy sauce or side dishes for people to place their own personal choices off for themselves. No one, including the kids, were offered any utensils. One more thing. No assigned waiters, it was a free for all. When it comes to Asian food, I am spoiled by West Hartford.
4) Jack Rabbits - a new burger / dog place in Old Saybrook Center. Definitely one of the better meals of the trip. I had only 2 problems - we had a large group of 8 and had to eat outside, in back of a neighboring restaurant, in the parking lot. The other problem is a 75 cents charge for tap water. Other than those two things, the combination of condiments for both burger and dogs were great and put together well. The dogs are the same as Dragon Dogs, but my experience was better here than at the original Dragon Dog site from a few years ago. The burgers give you a choice of sliders or a regukar size. Fries were nothing to write home about. Definitely worth a visit.
5) Bill's Seafood - we go every year. Great all around and not a single food complaint, just hot as hell and the guy singing on the deck sucked. Food was plentiful and prepared perfectly.
Thanks again for the recs.
Old Saybrook Area Recs.
Every year we go for a week to a beach in the Old Saybrook, CT area. We've done Lenny & Joe's, Johnny Ads, Bills, Luigi's, Pizza Works, Cuckoo Nest and Dragon Dogs. Read one post about Samurai and another about Terra Mar. Don't know if there is anything else thats a must try. For the record, liked all the seafood places and kids loved Pizza Works. Everything else was average. We don't want overly pricey, but appreciate all types of food. We will have transportation, so don't mind neighboring drives.
Thanks.
Best french fries in Hartford area?
Should have tried Rosco's before they closed. Super Duper Weenie exit 24 off I-95 (Black Rock Turnpike). Does fries the same way Rosco's used to.
Joey Garlic's Newington,CT
Been to the original "Joe's Pizza" in Canton. I LOVE the place. Eggplant Fries and Burgers are MUST tries. IMHO, the best burger in Hartford County (over all the hyped burger places). Pizza is pretty good too.
Plan B West Hartford Mini Burgers
Agree for the most part, but I don't like their fries, nor 5 Guys. I still say the most overlooked burger is at Joe's Pizza in Canton (they also own the Joey Garlic's). The Max group is opening a high end burger joint in the old Simmer on LaSalle Rd.
j restaurant hartford?
The old Pizza Plus directly across the street from Hartford Hospital
PF CHANGS _ WEST FARMS MALL, Conn
Tried last Saturday Night. FOUR HOUR WAIT. Went to Elelments Bistro instead.
Farmington Valley (CT) Restaurant News/Gossip
It certainly would be. And don't foo-foo the Teppan cooking tables. Ginza probably does the best job of all the recently opened ones. The food is excellent at Ginza as well as Feng.
Fleming's Steak House
I've had good luck with Steaks at a few places. Burton's Grill (I know there are more than one) which is in Boston and south windsor, CT. Another is J. Gilberts in Glastonbury, CT. I also had a decent meal at Jack's in Southington. All were good steak dinners.
Elements Bistro West Hartford CT
Mike Kelly is there? He's is one of my favorite local chefs. I am soooo there.
Elements Bistro West Hartford CT
It is in the Elmwood Section of West Hartford in the same plaza as Puppy Center. I believe the owner was previously involved with the old Back Porch Bistro in WH Center.
Fairground food - the Big E
Yup, used to be out of Pomfret, CT. They have not been at the Big E in 2 years.
Fairground food - the Big E
Steak-Umm sold out to a national a couple years ago. No longer CT
Feng Asian Bistro, Hartford, CT
went a few months ago. very expensive but absolutely loved the meal and drinks!!!!
Plan B in Glastonbury
Agree. They also opened in Simsbury at the old One Way Fare. Sometimes over-expansion can kill. However, I think they'll do fine in Glastonbury.
Wood-n-Tap coming to Vernon, CT
A local chain that is very well run. It is a group of a few old college buddies that own wood n' tap, the two Agave restaurants and Vaughn's Public House in downtown Hartford.

Anniversary Dinner in Hartford Area
Thanks for the suggestions folks. We narrowed it down to Feng, Costa del Sol and Sauce. She didn't want the city this time (though we have been to just about everything in Hartford). We are both Mike Kelly fans and tried Sauce. It fit the bill perfectly. Though higher end, price-wise, we were impressed. A little tight spaced and loud, but service was impeccable. With the exception of grilled asparagus, the entire meal was unique, executed perfectly and a culinary orgasm. Thanks again fellow hounds!
"sauce", glastonbury ct
Was just there last night with my wife. Absolutely incredible dinner. My wife had the lobster angel hair pasta as well. I had the Sauce Bolognese. We also had those fried risotto balls. Unbelievable meal. I HIGHLY recommend it. Mike Kelly is one of the most underrated chefs. Everything he touches is amazing.
Anniversary Dinner in Hartford Area
It's This Saturday so getting reservations might be tight. Here is the scenario. I am a Hot Dog Lover. Don't let that fool you, though. My tastes are all over the place, so I'm up to something new and different. My wife, however, doesn't mind upscale but is NOT a chowhound. ON20 would be to "foo foo" for her tastes. I don't want to break the bank, but I am not cheap either. Her tastes are usually very simple. Steak, Plain Fish, Lobster. She surprises me sometimes because she also likes Paella and Sushi. I suggested Feng, but she thinks it may be too gourmet and expensive for her. I need other suggestions. I was thinking Sauce (Glastonbury), Flemings (WH Center) and one person swore by some place in Rocky Hill called Asahi, but I don't know if it is an "anniversary" setting. I had one extremely suuceesful dinner with her at Burton's (South Windsor). We've been back there twice. I'd go again and recomend that to anyone, but she wants something new and different. Hopefully that gives you enough on what I'm looking for. Thanks for your help!
Plan B in Glastonbury
I just like them. It ends there. Burgers are pretty good, not my favorite. Bar is great, everything else is poor. I always get beat up for my opinion because everyone seems to swear by their burgers. I have definitely had better. You definitely should try them. They are good for the bar and a burger.
