Five Nights in Sharjah?

I've never been there, and I'm looking for local restaurants/food stalls etc., in Sharjah, as well as any specialties not to be missed. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Dennis

One week in Bologna...

Hey all:

I'm going to be in Bologna all next week for the Children's Book Fair. I'll be staying at the Hotel Europa just north of the historical central and spending my days at the fair at Piazza Constitutizone. I'm looking for reasonably priced local food at trattorias etc., where I wouldn't feel uncomfortable dining alone.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ethiopia?

I'm going to be traveling in Ethiopia for almost three weeks beginning in early January. After an overnight stay in Addis, I'l be in Gondar, Sanqaber, Axum, Ladibela, Arba Minch (then some camping) then Turmi, Yabello, and Yirgalem.

Any suggestions as to where to eat?

Thanks,

Dennis

Best Asian Noodles?

Hey all.

I'm looking for the best Asian noodle dishes in town. What are your faves? Anybody doing hand-pulled noodles?

Thanks,

Dennis

36 hours in Fort Lauderdale!

Quick question: I'm going to be in Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach this Thursday-Saturday morning. Any suggestions for good local food? Nothing dressy please, but price isn't a factor if the food is great.

Thanks!

Dennis

Breakfast in Puebla?

I'll be at the NH Hotel -- anywhere good near there for a hearty breakfast before touring Cholula?

Thanks!

50th Birthday in Mexico City!

That sounds like a lovely idea, but no time -- I'm doing one day/night in Puebla (1/21-22) before heading into Mexico City for the rest of the trip (1/22-1/25)

Thanks.

Any suggestions for Puebla?

I'm going to be in Puebla for lunch, dinner, breakfast, and maybe lunch again before heading to Mexico City.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Dennis

50th Birthday in Mexico City!

I'm turning 50 on January 25th, so I'm flying down to Mexico City for a few days (22-25) to celebrate. We're staying near at the Holiday Inn Centro, but will travel anywhere. I've read some reviews of La Tecla that make me think it might the perfect place for the "nice" dinner, but I'd love more ideas on that as well as some of Mexico City's funkier places.

Thanks!

Dennis

Five nights in Beijing!

Arriving in Beijing the evening of December 12, leaving the morning of December 16th. My hotel is near Tien'an Men Square. What are my must eats? Not looking for upscale -- I want local places and street food.

Thanks,

Dennis

BBQ ON SUNDAY? (Hou)

Hey all:

Are there any decent BBQ places in Houston that are open on Sunday nights?

Thanks,

Dennis

Brunch - Houston

Indika has a terrific brunch as well -- contemporary Indian cuisine.

Ft. Worth -- Residence Inn at Cultural Center?

Hey all:

I'm going to be in Ft. Worth next weekend, and I need a good brunch/lunch place not too far from my hotel. Any recommendations? Anything from dives to more upscale would be great -- good food is the only thing that matters.

Thanks,

Dennis

Taco Trucks in Houston?

Hey all:

I know Robb Walsh did a piece on this a couple of years ago, but, well, that was a couple of years ago, so I was wondering what taco trucks you all might recommend in Houston now? Any part of town is OK as long as it's good...

Thanks,

Dennis

Cold sesame noodles?

Hey all:

I'm looking for a good recipe for cold sesame noodles. Years ago, in NYC, a restaurant called Little Szechwan had the best cold sesame noodles I've ever had: the sauce wasn't thick, it was light, spicy, and really delicious.

Does anyone have a recipe that might compare?

Thanks,

Dennis

Chicken and dumplings - Houston

Triple A on Airline next door to the Farmer's Market has a good chicken and dumplings. I think it's only served one day a week, though, so call first to see when they have it.

Detroit Airport?

Thanks everyone. I ate at Sora and was not disappointed. I even ate there on the return flight. The udon is good, but I thought the ramen was even better! Not bad sushi either, and the service was remarkably friendly. Good call!

Detroit Airport?

I'm flying in on Northwest from Houston, then flying Northwest to Toronto -- sounds like sushi (or udon) it will be! Thanks everyone.

Detroit Airport?

Is there anywhere halfway decent to have lunch at Detroit Airport?

Thanks!

Yemen anyone?

Hey guys. I'm going to Yemen in April and will be in the following places: San'a, Al-Mahwit, Al Hajajrah, Al-Hudayda, Al-Khawkha, Ta'izz, Aden, Shibam, and back to San'a.

Any and all restaurant, street food, and market recommendations are welcomed!

Thanks,

Dennis

Pork and Porcini Ragu?

Anything?

Pork and Porcini Ragu?

I'm looking for a slow braised pasta sauce recipe that uses pork and dried porcini mushrooms. Does anybody have such a thing?

Thanks!

I Need an Elegant Soup Recipe

Here's the thing. Every holiday season, my friends and I do an over-the-top dinner party, centering around a Prime Rib, called "Beast Feast."

The last few years, I've been doing a killer lobster bisque as a first course, but I'd like to change it up this year. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dennis

Comparing Greek Restaurants in Houston

Even better than Niko is Stelio's. 5216 Richmond. It's part of a service station, but for my money, the food is tastier and fresher than at Niko's. Plus you get the added bonus of getting to watch people fill-up while dining.

Anybody know any interesting local places in Estonia?

I'm going to be in Estonia for three days next week, largely in Tallinn. Any recommendations for restaurants serving local food would be greatly appreciated.

"Don't Open That Bag!!!".....because I'll eat the whole thing.

Oreos. Not Double Stuff. Not dark chocolate coated. Not milk chocolate coated. Classic, traiditional Oreos. Open up the bag, they'll be gone by the next day, guranteed.

Best Fried Chicken in Houston?

As I recall, it's three, maybe four, whole wings.

Best Fried Chicken in Houston?

The fried chicken wings served with waffles at Breakfast Klub are pretty spectacular. Always crispy, always juicy, almost never greasy. Triple A on Airline does a pretty good fried chicken as well, even if it is a bit more bland then I like it.
