Where to buy meaty, local ribs?
I recently bought some GREAT Baby Back Ribs at Costco (seriously good)
The best part? They already had the membrane removed which is awsome!
They come in 3-Packs for like $35 or so
Oyster lover needs help
Go to Taylor Shellfish in the Melrose Market on Capitol Hill
They will drop knowledge about which oysters are the best right now
Have a glass of Rose with them
Falafel?
This is going to sound weird but............
Matt's in the Market has a FANTASTIC Falafel in their menu right now.
Seriously, I have had it 3 times already, very good
If you could only eat in five Seattle restaurants for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
The Harvest Vine
La Carta de Oaxaca
Serious Pie
Sitka and Spruce
Uneeda Burger
-----
Harvest Vine
2701 E Madison St, Seattle, WA 98112
Serious Pie
316 Virginia St, Seattle, WA 98101
Any source of leaf lard in Seattle
Rainshadow Meats has it, they are in the Melrose Building.
Dining at Tavolata For The First Time - Suggetsions?
With the weather being so cold, you have to get the Gnocchi alla Romagna.
Have the Zeppole for dessert.
Chestnut flour in Portland
Call PastaWorks, they might have it, if they don't they should know a distributor that does
Delancy Pizza (Ballard)
I had the pleasure of eating at Delancy last night. As expected, there was a little bit of a wait, so we left our phone number with the hostess and headed to Tarasco for a few drinks. They gave us a call when our table was ready (I love it when restaurants do this)
Their Burrata was really good, VERY soft and covered in Olive Oil (they didn't cut a corner here, the olive oil was very good).
We had 3 different pizza's: Roasted Padron Chili (a little spicy, but in a good way, the pepper went well with the tomato they use)
The Fennel Pork Sausage (which they make in-house, just the right amount of fennel too)
The Porcini Mushroom Pizza was loaded with mushrooms and had a great truffle oil drizzled on top.
The Pie itself was fantastic. Just the right amount of char on the top outer ring, and when you picked up a slice, it actually stayed horizontal (that is big for me)
Overall, a great night, the waitress we had could have been a little more eager to help, considering that they just opened and everyone is going to that place right now.
Right now, Serious Pie has the crown in this city, but Delancy could take them once they get everything going as they continue to fine-tune their operation.
Go!
Need just ONE DINNER in Portland- WHERE?
Pok Pok on Division, great food, really unique atmosphere.
Octopus in Seattle
The Stranger just ran an Octopus article ranging from their feeding habits and intelligence to who prepared it the best in Seattle. They said that Tavolata served a great dish.
Most Overrated Restaurant in Seattle
Everyone seems to be really hard on Matt's in the Market lately, mainly because of their prices. I guarantee that they have the highest rent of any of these other restaurants and they are able to seat the fewest amount of customers, all while going through a complete remodel.
I have NEVER had a "disaster meal" there, in fact, they seem to be as consistant as anyone in the city. The service is better than anything that I can think of, overrated is too strong of a word in my opinion.
Wineries with Live Music (within hour of Portland)
My lady and I love the Edgefield out in Troutdale. The wine is okay, but they do offer great beer and distill decent spirits. They have their music lineup on the McMenamins website.
La Tarasca in Centralia. What to order there?
I will have to try La Tarasca sometime. My Special Lady Friend and I stop in Centralia every time we go to Portland to eat at Taqueria El Rey. They used to serve right out of a giant Greyhound bus but they have recently moved into the building right next store. You will know it by the giant painting of said bus that is now on the building.
Don't expect fine dining here, just really good taco's for a quick snack on your way down or back. I tried the Sopes a few weeks ago, great stuff here if you don't feel like spending a lot of time eating.
Best Kept Secrets on the Eastside
Mediterranean Kitchen in Bellevue, get the Grandfather Chicken!
Calzone in Seattle
Wallingford Pizza House makes their upside down pizza which in some ways is sort of like a calzone. I had one for the first time a few weeks ago and I will say that their crust was pretty good.
Calzone in Seattle
I miss Pete's!!!!! I will say this with all honesty....I haven't had a Calzone since Pete's has closed. I haven't avoided them........I just haven't had one.
Where to find good Mole in SEA?
La Carta de Oaxaca makes a great Mole! Go there, I have never had a bad meal, great people as well!
Local's Favs in Bellevue Washington?
Mediterranean Kitchen........
103 Bellevue Way NE # 103
Bellevue, WA 98004
(425) 462-9422
get the Farmer's Dish...amazing!
Self Directed Coffee Tour?
Stumptown has a great tour downstairs underneath their 12 ave shop right next to Cafe Press. Go get some lunch at Press and then head over to Stumptown for your coffee and a tour.
Best Seattle vegetarian
Cafe Flora hands down. They just completed a beautiful interior remodel as well.
Making cassoulet, need ingredients
DeLaurenti in the Market has Tarbais beans, a little pricey but if you want to do it right (like I do) they are the "official" beans of Cassoulet. I have also bought duck confit there and duck fat.
Recs for a Seattle weekend
Sounds perfect. If it's just the two of you, see if you can book a spot at the bar when you go to Matt's. Robbie the bartender will treat you well.
Weekend in Portland report
I was in Portland over the weekend too. I LOVE McMenamin's (my girlfriend and I have almost completed the task of staying in each one) but I will agree with everyone's opinion about the food. It is NOT good, in fact everytime we stay at a McMenamin's we talk about taking over their kitchen's to create a unique menu at each one with a few mainstays scattered across.
I was able to get to APizza Scholl's again but this time for Sicilian Sunday! The pizza was great (try the Sausage and Anchovy).
Best Seattle Take-out Meal? Help- Your Favs?
Try the Gyro Plate at Mr. Gyro's on 85th and Greenwood. Fantastic food and the service is top notch.
Steeler Bar in Seattle?
Floyd's Place has the NFL package......but so do a lot of other bars in Seattle. I am a former Pittsburgher living in Seatttle and I have been going to Sideline Sports Bar in the Bellevue/Factoria area for about 10 years. It is an "Official Steelers Bar" we have a great group of people, mostly all of them from Pittsburgh. I know it's not in Seattle, but it is a short 15 minutes from downtown. See you there! Go Steelers!
Pike Place area
Go to Il Bistro, underneath DeLaurenti and the News Stand in Post Alley. Sit in the bar area or at the bar if you can. Great late night food, and they have a wonderful Scotch selection as well as other hard to find liquors. Rick should be the bartender, listen to him, he won't steer you wrong.
Nostrana 2008
I highly recommend Apizza Scholls on Hawthorne Ave. I drove from Seattle to eat at this place and I was blown away. Very thin crust and amazing low key service, great people there. Go!
best lamb in seattle
The Best Gyro? Mr. Gyro on 85th and Greenwood is hands-down the best Gyro I have had. I have tried Gyro's in New York, Pittsburgh, Philly, Chicago and these two brothers make the best. Get the Gyro Plate, you won't go anywhere else.
Matt's in the Market makes a great Lamb Burger, as well as Cafe Campagne. You can't go wrong with either one.
